Plaza on the River
- What's Included
We book an nights stay to catch a show and have dinner to celebrate our birthdays. The hotel was very nice and the room had a wonderful room but it was tired and had lots of scuff marks on the walls and black fingerprints on the ceiling in the bathroom where they had changed the bulbs. There was only one small bottle of water and a minimal amount of tea/coffee left. The heating in the room was non existent and I was disappointed to find there was no robe/ slippers or flannels to use. Im sure I could have rung and got these thing sorted but with such little time to spend together I didn't want to spend it waiting for hotel staff. It just didnt feel like a luxurious 5 star hotel. the staff were very friendly and the young man running the executive lounge for breakfast was very attentive. Great staff just a shame the little touches and hotel furnishings let them down.
We loved that this hotel had large rooms with absolutely everything in them that a person would need. The rooms are equipped with a kitchen, relaxing area and king sized beds...which are very hard to find in London. We were pleasantly surprised that even i the kitchen area there was a washer and dryer available for our use. Staff were helpful when we had issues with electronics and the air conditioner and coffee pot. Everything resolved easily and smoothly. We had a wonderful stay.
I would stay there again and will recommend Plaza on the River to friends. The staff was excellent and made check in very easy. Very classy hotel. The hotel was in a great location for public transportation.
I stayed with my wife and 3 small children in a two bedroom suite and the most that we can say about this hotel is that it is adequate. This place is nowhere near 5 stars. The furniture was scratched and outdated. There was old food between the nightstands and under the couch. The TV system would not allow us to rent any movies because of a "glitch" that they had no idea how to fix. The first night we arrived, a false fire alarm went off at 10:30 pm and the hotel had to be evacuated. I totally understand that it was a safety measure, but there was no apology given by the hotel for having to pull my kids outside in the cold in their pajamas because of a faulty sensor somewhere. When I checked in, we were offered breakfast for a daily rate of 23 pounds. Not knowing that my booking included breakfast (was never told that nor did it explain that in my confirmation) I declined. We were still charged the same rate even though we never ate breakfast. As a remedy, the front desk told me they would remove a room service charge for the inconvenience, however when I arrived back home, I received an email that the charge was re-added. Speaking of the room service, I was told that it would take 30 minutes for my food to arrive. It took an hour and it arrived cold. I will definitely not return to this hotel.
This is a follow up review from my last post on 10-May.After spoken with the reception, they admitted the larger room was not available during check-in. I was offered a room with decent size (which was what i've paid for) and with the kitchen/washer.After checking the room I realised all rooms with kitchen / washer are located at the lower floors and have not been refurbished. (The difference is obvious).I've decided to stay in my room assigned originally. NOTE: not all river view rooms had the view of the Big Ben. The Park Plaza Hotel brand (within the same building) offer a slightly higher class experience and I guess more rooms with Big Ben view should be available (with a higher cost)There was a false fire alarm in one of the night, which no one wanted to have this kind of event happened (especially walking 15th floor of stairs). The nice thing was I received an apology letter explaining what happened and why it happened etc. This met my expectation, I could imagine some hotels would simply silent about the incident without sending any apology.I strongly recommend to purchase the upgrade to gain access to the executive lounge for breakfast and free beers with a light cost. It felt like a business class upgrade.Well done Plaza on the river and I will return to this hotel in the future.
