We went for afternoon tea on a Friday afternoon and had the unlimited champagne afternoon tea. We thought we might be lucky enough to get a glass and a refill, but the staff were excellent and refilled our glasses many times until we asked them to stop! The selection of teas was very good and they offered to refresh my pot during the afternoon. My other half was able to have coffee instead and they offered a selection of other hot drink substitutes. The selection of food was very good, and the scones were small and not too heavy. We would love to go back - as we were very impressed.
First impressions of this hotel are a bit mixed - the area around it is not great and doesn't feel as luxurious as you'd perhaps wish, but the hotel itself looks quite grand with an imposing entrance and very nice reception area. I had lunch in the bar, and it was very nice and relaxed, if looking a little worn. I later realised it perhaps looked so worn as it doubles up as the breakfast area - with breakfast easily being the poorest part of this hotel, with a fairly miserable buffet. (Mine was included in the room rate but I think I would have preferred to go out for breakfast). I also had room service, a simple pizza, which was not great and didn't help me feel that this hotel does food well. The room itself was fine, although a little cramped particularly in the bathroom. Overall, I felt that this hotel does not live up to its "Autograph" status. If it was billed as a lesser hotel then I think I would have been more accepting and perhaps even pleased, but I expected better.
Chose this hotel for a 5-night family stay in London because of its location and reviews. We were not disappointed and words cannot fully express how pleased we were with our stay there from check-in to check out. Upon arrival, as a Gold Marriott Rewards member we were offered a choice of 2 rooms, both Jr. Suites featuring King and sofa bed for 3 adults. We decided on the smaller Jr. Suite because it had a limited view of Westminster Abbey. The Jr. Suite was comfortable and adequate for our entire stay. Although the room overlooked the street, we never heard any street noise. The location of the hotel is outstanding, especially for family vacationers. Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and other key attractions like Churchill War Rooms are within easy walking distance. The St. James Underground station is a block away and the New Scotland Yard bus stop is on Victoria Street, also a block from the hotel. Buffet breakfast was included in our rate and provided a good variety including scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausages, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheese, cereals, fruit and pastries. We only ate one evening meal at the hotel because we were out sightseeing and shopping at dinner time other nights. We arrived late for dinner so service seemed a bit slow but our meals were well prepared and delicious. The hotel lobby is beautiful and welcoming. One unique feature of the hotel is that it has its own bee hives from which it harvests fresh honey for its restaurant. Visitors can view the hives from the 3rd floor hallway. The only minor complaint we had was the business center printers were out out of toner the morning we wanted to print our airline boarding passes but the concierge provided the boarding passes from his work station. If you're planning a trip to London, for business or pleasure, I would highly recommend St. Ermin's Hotel.
St. Ermin's is in a terrific location next to a Tube station and many of London's best sights. It's a beautiful, well-kept place to stay. I was especially grateful for the outstanding service of Gary, the concierge, who immediately helped me pay our taxi driver from the airport when we were unable to get cash out of any machines because our bank put a fraud alert on our cards. Gary saved us!
We love this hotel because it has a traditional London feel about it. We have stayed at a lot of the larger more prestige hotels but definitely prefer this smaller boutique hotel. Great location not far from the London Underground which allows access to all of London. Service is spot on and always accommodating. Great choice!!
