Our OpinionSt. Giles has a great location just off Oxford St with lots of shopping, restaurants, and pubs nearby. Only a 2 minute walk to Tottenham Court tube station. However rooms are quite small with shower only.
Location: West End, Covent Garden, British Museum
The only positives of the hotel are the location and cleanliness, but only these two.The first impression is not great: the lobby (as well as the rest of the hotel) is in a poor conservation status: the floor wasn't really clean and people were pilling up as the staff didn't have a hand on the situation. A regular day...The rest of the hotel is in bad shape: the carpet is all worn, the walls are peeling and old furniture is all around. And forget the lifts. They take ages or are out of service. As our room was on the 3rd floord, we used the stairs almost everytime. Another negative: our room was next to a corridor door, so people kept bumping into our door and stayed on the corridor talking loud. The room windows are not anti-noise and the street is busy, so you can have trouble sleeping if you're not used to noise (it wasn't too bad for us, but we recon that it was noisier than a hotel room should be). Our room was small; there's no fridge and no amenities on the bathroom. The breakfast room is disorganized and people didn't understand the lines. For the price and size of the hotel, the breakfast should be better: fruit was missing, the coffee and drinks machines we constantly empty. The breakfast room should have a cart for treys as people has to leave them on the tables and we ended up eating next to dirty tableware. This would alse help the staff - they wouldn't have to walk so many times back and forth to clean if all was in a cart.In our last night, someone decided it was a good idea to ring the fire alarm at 1am/1:30am. As we were on the 3rd floor it was quite easy to get outside, but once on the street the staff weren't helpful or organized at all.
I have lived in London several years and was just visiting. My friend managed to get this hotel for free on airmiles. The location is great, easy for anything as close to Tottenham Court Rd tube stop. The hotel rooms have what you need but are tiny, like budget hotels are in London. No minibar, tiny tv. Good shower, ok beds. Don't spend more than 95 pounds a night here.... not sure how much it does cost....
Yes arguable a great location but that's all the start to finish in this booking has been poor including the staff. I originally booked via booking.com because it was a business trip I put it on my card and it stated no payment will be taken. 5 days before they tried to take payment then cancelled my booking. I had to call back and book again. ( saying can I exactly what I had before) duluxe room with breakfast. We arrived and had to head out straight away and when we did get back around 7pm I went to my room... If that is a duluxe I dread to know what standard rooms are like. Just about swing a cat in the bedroom. The sitting room bit was tiny. I didn't have time to complain or move rooms. However in the morning I went for breakfast asked reception where breakfast was... she asked what room I was in and sent me to the cafe bar. I walked to cafe bar only to be told that I didn't have breakfast booked. I went bk to reception and she then made a call. Only to tell me that when the booking was lost I was to have said I wanted breatfast... So I had breakfast but had pay for it. That wasn't all. We had wanted to use the gym So we checked out and then went to reception to ask where gym was carrying my case she pointed "down there" walked down all the steps with luggage, only to be told I had to pay for it and get a token from reception. So I had to go all the way back up the stairs with luggage and then told the ignorant reception Manager exactly what I thought about her customer service skills. Yer it's a great location but the staff have absolutely no service skills are rude and ignorant. Would never recommend this hotel.
The price of the hotel was good and the location as well. The rooms are very small. We got a twin bed and there were apx. 40 cm from the beds and the wall and between the beds. Closets were also small and we only used our suitcases. Also, the room had very small TVs. They could have invested more in larger TVs (I'm not talking huge ones, 32" would have been great). There are very few electric sockets and given people have phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, I think they should have put more. Especially, between the beds there was a small stand and lamps above it, they could have easily put sockets there. Instead the sockets were on one side of the room, meaning I couldn't tell the time without getting out of bed, as I use my phone as a watch. Also, out of the 4 elevators, 3 were not working for 4 days and on the 4th all were not working and we had to go one floor down and use the service elevator. All of this meant waiting a lot of time for the elevators and being crowded.Breakfast was good. Rooms are clean, Shower was good, but could have used more pressure (and I don't like the type of faucet they use where it's just one knob that opens the water as well as increase the heat and you can't control pressure and heat individually)Don't take a floor over 11 as it means changing elevators. All and all, given the price and location, I'd probably go there again...
We use this hotel every time we visit London. It is not luxurious, it isn't 5 star, it doesn't have all the added touches we sometimes like. It is clean, it is very central, the staff are excellent and it provides great value for money for the centre of London. If you need a central base whilst in London for short time St Giles ticks the box. If you want 5 star maybe give it a miss👌
