St Giles Hotel
- What's Included
Our OpinionSt. Giles has a great location just off Oxford St with lots of shopping, restaurants, and pubs nearby. Only a 2 minute walk to Tottenham Court tube station. However rooms are quite small with shower only.
Location: West End, Covent Garden, British Museum
Stayed here mid March beginning of the week. Not a bad hotel, clean and great location. All very standard wth no frills - exactly what was expected. Very busy and chaotic at reception so clearly a popular hotel. Corridors are very narrow and go on forever so can easily get lost! Paid for breakfast in the restaurant one morning which was pretty decent though can eat at nearby places for better prices! Ok but wouldn't like to stay for more than 2 nights.
It's a sweet mess !! The chaos , the rooms , the guest profile , the breakfast room service !! The volume of people staying at this hotel makes it feel less than a hotel but like a backpackers or trailer park. And it is for this reason that for them it seems that they service is built to serve the quantity with the unfortunate consequence of compromised quality ! The rooms are tiny ! Even for London and TV remote in my room had many dysfunctions The breakfast room reminds me of boarding school and the scramble for first in line to dish up your tray , sad !Overall , disappointed
Great location! When we arrived there was renovations being done in the lobby. I couldn't imagine working reception around that all day but they handled it wonderfully. I used the YMCA a few times which was nice. £5 per use, just get a token from the machine by concierge. There is a 24 hour diner attached to the hotel, and they have their own restaurant. We didn't eat at either because we ate out so much. Our room was cleaned daily. The staff were kind and helpful. We had to organize early transport to our half marathon one weekend and the desk arranged it for us. There is a loft waiting/lounge area that we would eat and play cards in. There is a local grocery store across the street, a bento/sushi to go place and a drugstore. We walked everywhere from here: kings cross, Buckingham palace, and Big Ben among other places. The surrounding area is noisy but the Windows seal shut. We never had trouble falling asleep due to noise. The room is quite small but there are many cubbies to stow away items. There were also 2 nightstands with a good amount of space to hold items. I recommend this hotel based on location/price.Cab from the airport was very expensive.
It is true that the location for a vacationing couple appears perfect. However do not let the glitzy entrance fool you. The front desk people are abrupt to the point of rude. The rooms are small, uneven, bathrooms tiny and window opened to a wall. Except for the lobby, nothing has a/c. Breakfast reminded me of my college dorm days : hectic, grubby with a pervasive steamy greasiness. You will find that the only folks who are helpful are the doormen. They will find you a cab if you require. The concierge tries but apparently does not know how to give directions to anything except the Museum and the tube. Anything else is beyond him. Those places are but a couple of short blocks away. Find someplace else.
Left feeling really disappointed after being a guest here previously and having a fantastic service I decided to bring my Daughter and Mum for their special birthday treat. We were given the smallest room possible but we were delayed getting in so didn't make a fuss, however my mum who has just recovered from an operation struggled in the "double bed" this was actually a queen bed just slightly larger than a single bed. This bed was supposed to be suitable for two adults and believe me it wasn't neither of us are that tall or big either, my daughter had a pull down bed the room was claustrophobic and the bathroom was so tiny you had to leave the door open for air! There was a stain on the duvet and an unused tampon under our bed which showed that there was no attention to detail either! The room was so hot and the heating was on we couldn't turn it off! After seeing the discomfort my mum suffered I asked for a new room and they did move us to a better triple room with a proper double bed and a proper single bed, this was much better! We should have been given this type in the first place, I rang the hotel and explained it was a birthday treat and also that my mum had just had an operation they did give my daughter a little teddy which was a lovely thought. Breakfast was chaotic and the staff were clearing our plates while we were still eating and the lifts.. don't even get me started on those! Then because we moved in a rush we left a pair of pjs in the original room the palava we had trying to get them back we wasted too much time at check out we also wasted time trying to leave luggage with the concierge. I did complain and spoke to the duty manager who was lovely he has offered a partial refund in fairness to him and the hotel but unfortunately I have been left feeling really disappointed that a treat for such a special birthday for my mum was spoilt as we were not able to do half the things we had planned as she felt unwell from the first evening, I will be taking this up with the general manager on return! It is a shame as the location of the hotel is fantastic and previously I had such a wonderful opinion of it. Perhaps if you are a family or there is more than 2 in your party check your room before you accept it!
