Our OpinionThe single rooms here are a good size with modern decor. No A/C in rooms but they do offer connecting rooms and family rooms for up to 3 people.
Location: Trafalgar Square, Soho, Covent Garden
This is one of our favourite hotels, lovely place and so close to Covent Gardens, Soho, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square. The rooms are very nice and a lovely breakfast.3 min walk to Charing Cross Station.
I booked a single room here at a discount as one of Lastminute's secret hotel deals & I wish I hadn't. I'll start with the good things- the staff were very courteous & helpful and I had a room which didn't overlook The Strand, as I see that some people here have had problems with street noise etc. The foyer is nice, but this gives you a false sense of wellbeing. They should have spent the money on the rooms instead. Which brings me on to the bad things- 'plastic' feeling sheets, certainly not cotton, which gave me the night sweats. A stuffy, poky little room which wasn't the cleanest. And I had such a terrible night's sleep because the walls are so thin. All through the night I could hear people arriving back shouting & slamming doors. Then this morning (Sunday) I was woken up at 7am & again at 8 by the lady in the room next door who was making a phone call. A phone call! I could clearly hear every single word she said & also quite a lot of what the man on the other end said. It was like we were in the same room. This is obviously ludicrous & short of soundproofing the rooms, I'm not sure what their solution would be. I know what mine is- I'm never going to stay there again. Instead, I'll spend half the money on a room at a cheap hotel in Kings Cross where I'll be just as happy, if not happier.
Breakfast was not worth the money. Better to go out to eat. Herded in, sat down, no explanation of breakfast process - just left to work it out. No option given for eggs done in a certain way, no vegetarian sausages which would be a quick win. Nobody asked if I had any specific requests, I would have asked but staff were seemed indifferent and inattentive to customers - purely task focussed on clearing tables. I understand Sundays are busy and it is a business decision about where focus should be - but I would always choose to eat where I am treated like an individual over the production line approach. Pastries were burnt through being kept heated. I'm not unsympathetic to how busy the staff were and that catering is aimed at the masses, but it isn't for me. I'd choose differently next time. Premier Inn manage to get the balance right.
Staff were extremely pleasant and professional at check-in, check-out and the restaurant (the only three facilities I used). The location was perfect too: a short walk from Covent Garden tube station, with a direct tube to Heathrow from there.Sleep was excellent ... helped by the blackout shutters in the room
Hotel has an excellent location - easy to walk to many places including most theatres and Covent Garden - including Kings Cross Station as we were unlucky enough to check out during a tube strike!Appears clean if a little run down since last stayed there. Breakfast has plenty of choice and you are seated so staff know to bring coffee/ tea to table. Rooms very small though if 2 people are in at the same time. One point is the doorman was very rarely on duty when we stayed - could do better to compete with other hotels of this class in that respect.
