Our OpinionThe single rooms here are a good size with modern decor. No A/C in rooms but they do offer connecting rooms and family rooms for up to 3 people.
Location: Trafalgar Square, Soho, Covent Garden
It's an old tired hotel with below average restaurants. But it doesn't matter it's in Covent Garden so you are spoilt for choice for places to eat. Plenty of better hotel options too. Nothing else to add
Introduced a new friend to the Strand Palace Hotel Carvery restaurant. Situated on the ground floor of this old and well established hotel on the Strand opposite the Savoy. You have a choice of starters, main and/or dessert. The starters are from a large salad bar with a very good selection of fish. Three roasts - rib of beef, turkey or gammon joint. Large selection of vegetables to accompany the meat. Good choice of desserts. 3 courses £21. We had a superb bottle of Shiraz to go with the meal. Very attentive and efficient staff.
I had the best times at the Strand. Thank you! Besides the location, the staff was always very helpfull and I was sure, that after a long day of walking, I would have a comfortable, clean and friendly place to go back.
Recently stayed here for a night, having only previously stayed for business trips previously and some time ago. Was warmly welcomed on arrival and offered an upgrade to an air conditioned room which was gratefully received and in the middle of summer I suggest is a must have considering the hotel's location on the busy Strand where if you were lucky to have a window opening up on to the road, it would be too noisy due to the traffic. The hotel staff throughout our stay were very very polite and courteous and were eager to make your stay a pleasant one. The room we had was large (Executive Room due to the upgrade given) and had everything you would expect from a decent hotel in the middle of London from a Nespresso coffee machine, to iron and ironing board in the room, to his and hers dressing gowns. Breakfast was included in our room rate but was a substantial affair and you had options of continental breakfast or the Full English - which was very good and served to you rather than buffet style. The Gin Palace - bar located with the hotel lobby area, at the time we went, offered a "Happy Hour" so you can get 2 cocktails for the price of one between 5 and 7pm. All in all a very pleasant overnight stay in this very centrally located hotel - ideal for accessing the various theatres on The Strand with the Adelphi just doors away and The Savoy Theatre across the street. It's within walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Somerset House, Covent Garden and Aldwych. Would definitely use this hotel again.
On a recent coach visit to a London show, our excursion included a carvery lunch at The Strand. On entering the restaurant our coach group was instructed where to sit by the Maitre d'. Instructed is the word & not ...greeted & invited to sit!! He then shouted to all what our meal consisted of & the two deserts we could choose from!! As our table of four approached the carvery he shouted "No, no, go back to your seats, I do not wish you to queue!!!". It was like being at school!!! As we eventually stood at the carvery, he approached two customers entering the restaurant & his whole demeanour & attitude was entirely different. Quietly & smiling he greeted them & showed them to a table far away from "the coach party"!!!!! He seemed to forget we were paying customers too!! However, Our lunch was lovely! The beef & turkey were locally sourced & delicious although my husband said the gammon was chewy. Lots of veg to help yourself to ( best mash I have ever tasted!!!) & desert was good too. The chef carving the meat greeted us with a nice smile & the waiting staff were very attentive, polite, pleasant & smiley to us all! Well done them!
