The Bloomsbury Hotel

Had the misfortune to stay here one night in June. The hotel was booked by work and I'm guessing that they hadn't read the previous reviews.I arrived with a colleague and it seemed to take the two men on reception by surprise that someone was trying to check in. As others have noted, they were not particularly welcoming or friendly. My room was a decent size and could be quite nice with some care and attention. Instead it was grubby - fingerprints on the wallpaper, stains above skirting boards, the lamp shade was filthy, there was a thick coating of dust above the window. The bathroom and bedding appeared to be relatively clean but there was a musty smell throughout the room.It took me a few minutes to notice that there was a pronounced slant to the floor that had been "rectified" by sticking chunks of wood under the bed base (see pics). As others have noted, the rooms are hot and stuffy so I was relieved to see a fan in the wardrobe. I pulled it out to find brown tape covering a massive crack in the fan. They cost about £8 and I think the fact that the owners were unwilling to replace them pretty much sums up this place. It might have been just as well that I wasn't confident to use the fan because there was a large burn mark at the top of the plug sockets (see photo).Avoid.
Nice room, good bed. Free Wi-Fi is nice but didn't work in our room on the lower ground floor. Quite frustrating to have to enter the lobby to use wifi. This hotel is vet inflexible despite being relatively expensive. Booked and paid ahead of time but the hotel wouldn't allow me to move my 5-night stay to one day later. Disappointed about that.
Our room was LG1 and was in between the kitchen and breakfast room. We were woken up at around 6 am by clashing crockery. This went on until after 9.30. So, an unexpectedly early start. You get free Wifi. Unfortunately it doesn't work. We had two IPads and two smart phones and none would pick up the Wifi. Room was a reasonable size and clean enough. Bathroom was ok. Breakfast was quite nice.
First the Booking.com gave this hotel **** omg no way I will gave this * stars. The room very hot no AC, with window that will not stay open so I had to hold it open by putting a bin to wedge it open . Door to the room not locking , bathroom floor tiles loose , bathroom exractor didn't work as it was clogg up with fluff. If you like going up one lot of stair down an other with cases to get to your room then book this hotel. oh yes breakfast in the basement that it was ok. and the guy reception helpful . Location was good as it was only 10 minutes walk from places to eat and visit . Very rundown and need a good make over not only paint on the outside . Will I stay there again maybe in 10 years time when it refurb!!!! Not suitable for disable people or older people no Lift very narrow stairs .
Good stuff - Friendly staff, comfy and clean bed, great location (only 5 minutes to Goodge Street and two stops to Leicester Square.Bad stuff - No lift (and we were on the 3rd floor) so you need a certain level of fitness. Bedroom baking hot as no aircon and small windows. Bathroom poor and musty smelling. Broken bathroom fittings. Decor all round tired and dated. Breakfast was chaotic - we had to clear are own table as more guests than seats, all food was microwaved. Garden was overgrown so we were not allowed outside.
