The Bloomsbury Hotel

Do not stay here unless you are desperate. The room was on the ground floor, behind the reception. G4 Very noisy, complimentary toiletries consisted of three small round soaps. One double plug socket. Shower was dirty, and looked like it had been just added into the corner of the room. Overlooked the back of what looked like a dirty room at the back of the kitchen.Everything looked grubby and dirty, old. The window frame was rotting and hanging away from the wall.Didn't dare venture to look at the mattress, due to being very tired and needed somewhere to sleep.Due to the general overall condition of this 'place' we didn't want to risk eating here, despite the price included breakfast.Wish I had read the reviews before booking. Live and learn!!!
It has to be against living regulations to offer rooms that are smaller than 1m. This hotel has rooms of that size where you cannot open your suitcase and cannot sleep for feat that the ceiling is going to collapse on your head. Information about room sizes is not explicit and the charges suggest one is booking a single room of a normal size. Yet the greed of the people who run it is unbelievable as they have turned a landing into a single room with a bathroom. Everything is dilapidated and smelly.
The hotel is very modest, and I couldn't expect much for the price we paid - cheaper than any other hotel with a good location. As a matter of fact, it I had to summarize it in a single word, it would be "location". The hotel is located just two blocks from the (amazing) British Museum. The guys at the front desk are really nice too. We stayed in a room on the ground floor, right behind the front desk, but we were surprised by the fact it wasn't noisy at all. The English Breakfast is not for us - definitely. Beside the scrambled eggs, tomato and beans there were also six slices of toast. The room itself was ok, although it wasn't very clean. At least the curtains were very dirty. The shower's drain was clogged the day we arrived, but we asked the guy at the desk and when we came back at night, it was already cleared.
Had the misfortune to stay here one night in June. The hotel was booked by work and I'm guessing that they hadn't read the previous reviews.I arrived with a colleague and it seemed to take the two men on reception by surprise that someone was trying to check in. As others have noted, they were not particularly welcoming or friendly. My room was a decent size and could be quite nice with some care and attention. Instead it was grubby - fingerprints on the wallpaper, stains above skirting boards, the lamp shade was filthy, there was a thick coating of dust above the window. The bathroom and bedding appeared to be relatively clean but there was a musty smell throughout the room.It took me a few minutes to notice that there was a pronounced slant to the floor that had been "rectified" by sticking chunks of wood under the bed base (see pics). As others have noted, the rooms are hot and stuffy so I was relieved to see a fan in the wardrobe. I pulled it out to find brown tape covering a massive crack in the fan. They cost about £8 and I think the fact that the owners were unwilling to replace them pretty much sums up this place. It might have been just as well that I wasn't confident to use the fan because there was a large burn mark at the top of the plug sockets (see photo).Avoid.
Nice room, good bed. Free Wi-Fi is nice but didn't work in our room on the lower ground floor. Quite frustrating to have to enter the lobby to use wifi. This hotel is vet inflexible despite being relatively expensive. Booked and paid ahead of time but the hotel wouldn't allow me to move my 5-night stay to one day later. Disappointed about that.
