The good points of this hotel: I really like the decor in the lobby and the bar. This is second time a bunch of us stay here. My room seemed a bit tired and it was a bit noisy when people were going pass the fire doors at 5 am wasn't impressed with that. My room wasn't made up either when I got back at 7 pm and had to call the front desk to get this sorted! The breakfast is very good with a huge selection that should satisfy anyone. Last visit was a 4 star this time 3 star, sorry guys!
Stayed here a few years ago when they had a famous chefs restaurant next to the bar which no longer exists. As like most hotels reception impressive but sadly what let's this hotel down is lack of investment in the rooms. Room I had was very small and very tired. It was clean which is always a bonus.Breakfast was good and nice selection available.Handy location just at the end of oxford street.
I have stayed here before and had very mixed results from the visit from hell to excellent. My first return in three years, a weekend break with 3 sisters. I did check prior to booking and just before arriving that all would go well as I sold the idea to my sisters that it was a central place to stay and mostly delivered the service! From the booking to check out, the service was excellent. All the staff were very helpful at all times. The refurbishment has improved the look of the reception area and done away with the dingy Oxford Street entrance. The lift area feels more secure. The rooms, executive twins were large for a London hotel at the price we paid and the executive lounge well worth the extra money. Breakfast in market place had lots of choices. My sisters who were up from Devon and Berkshire were very impressed and would be happy to stay again. I would stay again with my husband. Small downside fire evacuation at 1am Sunday morning, There needed to be a member of staff at the Oxford street/topshop exit to tell people where to go as it was not clear where the assemble point was. Staff did gather people together who were milling around the front of hotel and take everyone to another hotel to wait. I'm sure they will be slicker if it happens again.
Stayed in a Junior Suite which was very tired, white cup marks over the furniture, stained carpets and when removing the plug from the bath the water appeared in the shower tray of the shower!Weren't told that we could use the Executive Lounge - so missed out on that facility. Another of our party had an Executive Standard Room which was much nicer than the Suite. Expensive for coffee and drinks in the bar - breakfast good value, but as it is a self-service caffeteria the food gets cold when laid out on warmers. I think I would try elsewhere in London if we ever go back again.Well placed at the top/bottom of Oxford Street (depends which way you are travelling!) and for Hyde Park, Park Lane, etc.
The Cumberland hotel made my overall trips to london so much easier and convenient as a person who travels a lot from Cornwall in the UK. First, the location of the hotel is perfect for tourists who loves shopping, as it is located in central london Marble Arch which is right next to Oxford Street and Regent Street. Other than shopping in the most popular streets in London, one can easily go to any places with the underground that is just 1 to 2 minutes walk from the hotel. There is also a few bus stops if you prefer to take a bus ride and enjoy the modern cityscapes and beautiful sceneries in london. Referring back to the hotel itself, I have stayed in both standard and executive rooms which all have a reasonable size to each of them. The rooms and toilets are all very clean and organised once moved in and many of necessities such as soap, shower gels, shampoo and hair conditioner, hair dryer, iron and iron board, clean towels and a full length mirror are provided. However if you would have to ask for toothbrushes if needed. Storage for clothing and luggages are available as well. What is most important to me at the hotel was that there is free wifi as well. Other than that, breakfasts are free and if you are staying in a executive room, you can rest in the executive lounge all day and breakfast, tea, and dinner will be served everyday. The hotel is very generous about their breakfasts as it is served in a buffet style with a variety and all kinds of food. Whats more is that all staff are very efficient, helpful and nice, so basically they tell you everything that you need to know straight on the point, and if you want them to bring your luggages up into your room, they will do that very quickly. Although I would say the price per night is relatively expensive, but you get what you have paid for a 4 star hotel and I personally think it is a place worth staying throughout your trip in London.
