This 8-storey world-class modern hotel boasts an excellent central location directly on Oxford Street, overlooking Marble Arch monument and Hyde Park. From this central location, many of London's attractions can be explored by foot including Madame Tussaud's Museum, Kensington Gardens, Buckingham Palace or Piccadilly Circus. In addition, the Marble Arch tube station is minutes away. Some hotel facilities include one of London's finest restaurants, several bars including The Expresso Bar; conference and meeting space, business centre, fitness centre and handicapped facilities.

Certain staff members not so polite, otherwise good hotel

First of all: The location is very practical for shopping, buses, tube station etc. It's practically on Oxford street! The room was clean, check in was speedy and without any problems. We were two female friends travelling together, and, the double beds are a bit small, but we couldn't find any rooms with two single beds when booking. However, this was not a problem for us - just that you have to be really good friends to share a double bed here. We had breakfast every day, excellent food.Even though all of the above is true, I wouldn't stay here again. I felt that certain male staff members were a bit disrespectful. When entering the elevator, you need to put your room card to the elevator panel to activate it. Nothing unusual there. However, what we didn't know, was that there also is a box on the wall before you enter the elevator room, and you have to push your key card in there as well. It's not very pleasant to be talked to in a stern voice by anyone when you have paid quite a lot of money for a good hotel. It must be possible to approach people in a polite manner, regardless of culture and whether you are male or female? We had the same experience in the breakfast room. If you went to the rest room during breakfast, and attempted to get back at your table, for instance, this is a big faux-pas. But it is possible to give information in a nice manner! I had a couple of bad experiences with staff members who apparently haven't had a proper training in how to give service, or talk politely to hotel guests. Enough to damage my impression of this otherwise very good hotel.

30 minutes to check in

Location of the Cumberland is second to none for Hyde Park and Oxford Street and it's a generally very good hotel. London hotel rooms are always small so don't expect to go swinging any cats but the junior suite I got was relatively large but pricey at €350 for 1 night. But really, the queue for check in seemed to be an all day feature last Thursday - I was 30 minutes checking in, even with 4 members of staff dealing with customers. Don't know the problem but you never get a second chance to make a first impression and this hotel needs faster check in systems. At this price, Sheraton grand on park lane and the Hilton around the corner are closer to city, palace and Leicester Square so would be worth checking out.

Booked the junior suite for 2 nights from 26th may till 28th may, 2017. Room no.3077. This has been the worst experience I have ever had. We checked in the room Last night and found the bathroom in a miserable condition. The drainage system was blocked for which we complained and it took more than an hour to rectify which they should have done or atleast checked before. Anyways, thought it would have sorted out but the very next morning again the shower drain got clogged and had no choice than using it as is. The toilet flush is like using a handpump where you have to push the lever 3-5 times forcefully. No doubt the location is fantastic and breakfast too isn't bad. But paying $490 per night for this property is just a waste of money & moreover spoils your vacation.

Disgusting rooms

This hotel is rated 4 star but it's a 2 star hotel in my opinion. The lobby is new and modern looking but that does not extend to the rooms. They are worn, dank, and musty as you enter. The bathroom have cracked tiles, cracked sink, moldy shower curtains, and no vents (which probably contributes to the dankness of the room). The shower drain is clogged or doesn't drain well. Just imagine taking a shower with 3 inch of water at your feet at all times. The toilet only flush once every 3-5 minutes. If you're willing to overlook all of this, then the hotel is in a good location and the air conditioning works. Overall, I think the hotel is not worth its $250 nightly rate for a room with two connected twin beds.

Highly recommended

Great location, with Marble Arch underground station just around the corner!!Checking-in and out was speedy and fuss-free.The first floor room we were offered was a bit small, but enough for the two of us and quite clean.The service was really good, especially the daily room cleaning service and of course the always helpful personnel.Breakfast was plentiful and fresh with waiters always nearby ready to assist.
