Stayed at the beginning of our trip for two days then one day on the return from a trip thru the British isles. The room for the first two days was spacious and comfortable. On the return we were put in a small cramped room that was quite uncomfortable.
Hotel gorgeous. Fantastic location and great front of desk service and bar. Room very nice but tv selection is pretty poor for a top of range hotel (no movie options) and breakfast was quite disappointing, both in terms of range of food options and service.
This might be an odd way to start a review but, this was one stay that reminded me not to be too panicked by the negative Nellies out there because they did have me arriving at the Grosvenor slightly worried about a few details, and I already know that my next stay will be even better as I'll be going without those worries.First of all, the thing almost everyone agrees on is true - the location of this hotel is ideal no matter where in London you might be going. We came down from York to King's Cross with our main destination Hamilton at the Victoria Palace, so it was a single tube ride to Victoria Station and there's an entrance to the hotel in the station so, particularly with the slightly dodgy weather around our dates, we could have gone the entire trip only going outdoors for the brief 5 minutes it takes to cross the road to the theatre. Of course, you can get almost anywhere else just as quickly from Victoria on the Tube so I'd honestly stay here for anything in the future (I'd even just take the trip to go in Réunion bar again - see below). We had a standard twin room booked and the closer to our travel time I became convinced that I should have spent the extra for a superior one because I didn't fancy what sounded like a difficult journey others have described getting to the "wing" rooms. This fear was assuaged first of all by the fact they let us in nearly 2 hours early - we only intended to drop our bags as we went to do a little sightseeing (it's a leisurely walk down to Buckingham Palace and then to Westminster, shorter than we thought) but no sooner had we walked through the door than we were in the well signposted lift going up to our room. Yes, we had to take 2 lifts, but it was nothing like the fuss some others have described. The wing rooms are incredibly well signposted and it was honestly no less hassle to get to than any hotel room I've ever stayed in. The room itself was almost exactly as pictured, everything we needed (though the TV was a little shocking - it seemed to still be on analog?! - we had an iPad and the wi-fi was good enough for Netflix - I would also suggest as I would to all hotels that when it comes to complimentary water you place a bottle of each, still/sparkling, per guest rather than just one of each, but these are the tiniest niggles…), even with a view of the theatre we were to be going to that night. It was also a lot quieter all through our stay than expected. The bed was comfortable enough even for me who wasn't remotely intending to sleep to get a few hours unplanned shuteye.Réunion Bar! We weren't going to go here until I saw the insane cocktail menu (it's a book) online and we also found ourselves with a little extra spending money so it was decided to have champagne and nibbles instead of our original plan of Shake Shake for dinner. I'm not sure if it was because of the champagne but we were genuinely treated like royalty in this place, and the nibbles? For £12 it was incredible value for what could adequately be described as a meal for two with grilled chicken, mini fish cakes, sausages, mini fish and chips, mini croque Monsieurs and arancini balls all of which were incredible. We charged all of it to the room which made it feel even more exciting - and we came back after the show for a couple of cocktails (they even remembered us).Room Service - another thing I was worried about was whether they would bring breakfast to the room which has recently become a decisive factor in whether I have breakfast in a hotel at all and most hotels including this one don't include as a feature on their website. For anyone else wondering this, worry not - they do have a room service breakfast menu. It's pricy (double what you'd pay in advance for the downstairs buffet) but if it's what you need, it's there. Ultimately we didn't have breakfast, but we did order both things off the (limited, but adequate) 24hr menu, a cheese plate and a margerita pizza, which were decent value and quality and brought relatively quickly and politely. All in all an amazing stay and I will definitely be back when the opportunity arises - like I said, even if it's just for the bar!
On arrival we were met by a friendly member of staff called Hannah giving us all the information we needed including advising us that it was cheaper to book breakfast at reception rather than at the restaurant. When we got to the room we loved the decor even if the room was quite small. The room had everything we needed but was quite cold. The sensor was set at 23 so I set it to 26. We went out for the evening but on return the room still hadn’t heated up but by the early hours of the morning we were too warm so had to switch it down. Clearly the heating need checking. The TV was useable but poor, it looked like it needed retuning and the sound was poor. The bathroom although small was very clean. We did have 2 issues. Firstly the shower was next to the toilet and the door only opened half way meaning that I had to walk in the shower sideways. The shower however was large enough and warm. Finally the toilet stopped flushing just before we left.Breakfast was of a good standard with friendly and efficient staff and an excellent selection of food. We were also given a sheet from reception when we booked in as to the busy times which could be useful if you needed to get breakfast quickly. The hotel in general was very good, has a good selection of eating and drinking areas which are all waiter/waitress at the seat service and is in close proximity to Victoria Station and even has an entrance/exit to it which is another selling point. On leaving the reception staff were keen to listen to our concerns and remained friendly throughout. Although we did have issues I would definitely recommend this hotel and have in fact booked a room for New Years Eve.
We stayed at the grosvenor hotel 2 twin rooms. My son and his friend were going to st James palace to receive their gold duke of Edinburgh awards. We were treated like royalty from check in till check out. As complentary treat we were given little pastries with a lovely little congratulations card for our boys a nice gesture. The hotel is only 5 mins walk to Buckingham palace. Changing off the guard was great to see. Breakfast was good and my friend was gluten free and had a nice selection of items. A lovely stair case for photos was a delight. Thank you so much grosvenor and staff for a few days in London.
