Located at Victoria Station, this historical hotel is both elegant and up to date. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff is professional and polite. The food is outstanding. And, with a doorway right into Victoria station, the trains and the underground are just steps away.
My wife and i were checking in and the agent at the desk was a young lady that seemed to be having a problems with the guests ahead of us, I can not comment on their problems only mone. When it was our turn the agent was pleasant enough and seemed welcoming she gave us a room and explained that it is located in the Annex of the hotel and said it was on the 3rd floor. Take the elevator up to the second floor and walk around to the steps to the third floor and then down the hall. I explained that due to health reasons that I was 75 years old and I could not do steps and she explained that this room was all they had and it was only a couple of steps. I tried to explain again my condition and she said just try it, it's not that bad. again I said I have a crippled leg. She looked at me and said that's all we have and turned away and ignored anything else I had to say She waved to the person in line behind me to come forward and started to help them still ignoring me. I waited there at the desk while she gave the person a room on the 2nd floor without steps. I asked how come he got his requested room and I didn't She explained the rooms are preassigned and she could not change them. I asked for the Manager and she told me she was not available and just go and try to go up the couple of steps. I left angry and my wife was upset we got to the second floor steps and guess what her idea of a couple of steps was a flight of nine steps. Try to carry 4 bags up a set of 9 steps with a cane it the other hand. Our friends who had the lower room assisted my wife and I with the bags. The bell men were very busy trying to load and unload two tour buses at the same time. That why we tried it ourselves. When we got to the room it had no air conditioning WE called for maintenance to check it out and two calls later the maintenance men showed up four and one half hours later with a new filter, There explanation was that everyone's air conditioned was not working due to the dirty filters in all the rooms. If immediately started cooling off before they left the room.Needless to say this was not a good experience.
We arrived in plenty of time ahead of our booking and it was no problem shown straight to our table. The staff were amazing and very helpful and prompt. The sandwiches delightful and cakes delicious and Tea and coffee served very hot. A lovely treat.
I booked this hotel because I got a great deal on a B & B package, but I was a little apprehensive because of the location ( right on top of Victoria Rail and Bus Stations). I was worried it would be noisy. As it was, this was probably one of the quietest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Although our room looked out over the bus station we couldn't hear any noise at all and of course the location was fantastic for transport to anywhere in the Capital. The hotel was exceptionally clean and every member of staff that we came into contact with was charming and helpful and willing to go the extra mile!
We arrived mid afternoon tired and hungry after a long flight, went to the Tea Room and waited, waited while the waitstaff ignored us. Finally someone gave us a menu but never came back. When someone came the first 3 things on the menu I asked for were not available. Not a good start. However, after a stay of a week I have to say the reception, dining room and room staff couldn't have been more helpful. There was a sign saying something about renovations and the hotel needs it. The breakfast room, with excellent manager Muhammed and top waitstaff have to work in a too-small buffet and dining room. Our room was clean and adequate but the bathroom was not well ventilated and there were spots of mould in the corner ceiling (later scrubbed off by staff). One night we had water leaking through from room above us and maintenance came immediately and fixed the problem.(it is a very old hotel). The main thing going for this hotel is the location - close to everything in central London for tourists. The staff are the main reason we would definitely stay again.
