The Kensington Hotel

Small and basic rooms. Our ground floor room was terribly noisy from the ventilation system in the basement. The room was hot with poor ventilation. Breakfast buffet was too expensive and consisted of cereals, toast, butter, jam and cheese. WiFi did not work. The location is excellent with only a few minutes walk to Gloucester Road Tube Station and the museums and easy connections to Heathrow Airport.
We stayed in Avni Kensington for 4 nights. I really hope my review reaches the owner or the manager of this hotel. The location is wonderful. Walking distance to parks , museums and lots of shops and restaurants . Quite Street, easy walk to subway. But my oh my it's dirty!!!! I attach pictures below for other travelers to consider and for hotel management to take action. I understand that while some things that would make this hotel better are costly and out of reach, others can be done for sure! Let's talk CLEAN! windows are so dirty that almost don't reflect! You can see it in a day light or night. Wash the windows!!! Let's talk blankets!!! Geez ! They look and smell as if they are about to crawl from the bed on their own!!! I don't think they ever been washed . I honestly don't want to know if stained on them are from food or bodily fluids ! There are hair of many previous guests on them ( in photo below you can see black long hair, I have short blond hair!!!) During the day we left room and closed window , every night we came back to the smell of a wet dog. Carpets are screaming for some steam cleaning!!! Questionable art on the walls and size of walking space around the bed, and a worlds smallest TV ,no sitting area , no table ... it's small , it's understandable! Clean it up!!! Breakfast is another topic! Most English hotels offer English breakfast. They are offering cold cuts, potatoes, porridge, hot eggs, cooked sausages... you get the picture! This hotel offers breakfast: Cold cereal, yogurt, hard boiled ( cold) eggs, 1 variety of cheese , 1 variety of ham, some salad. Only thing you will get warm is a slice of toast, coffee, tea. Could be actually that they don't have kitchen to cook it... should specify on website that it's continental breakfast ! Lobby area has a coffee bar ( where also you can grab a beer) , but the atmosphere is not allowing for a relaxing time.
We stayed here for one night. It was reasonably priced for hotel in our chosen location for visiting the museums. It was central to other places and there are lots of local restaurants nearby. Our room has balcony overlooking the main road which was surprisingly not too noisy at night. The balcony door and windows are single glazed might be cold at night, but not so bad early October. Continental breakfast is ok and edible but nothing special, it is the only option for breakfast, but for cooked breakfasts you would have to paid at nearby cafe.It is an average hotel, for one night. The bed was comfortable and amenities were okay.
We stayed for one night. On arrival we were upgraded free of charge, to a triple room, from our original twin room booking. The room was on the top floor and at the back. Harrington Gardens is a beautiful leafy quiet road and this meant it was going to be even quieter. The room was clean and modern with ample tea, coffee, milk, etc supplied. Soap, shampoo and conditioner and shower gel was also supplied along with plenty of towels. A large fan was also provided which came in very handy. This was one of the best night's sleep I have had in a hotel. It has a 24hr reception, two lifts, a cafe lounge in reception and a basement breakfast room. Breakfast was perfectly adequate with its 'continental' style and the brown bread was particularly flavoursome. The staff are helpful and friendly and for central London the price is fantastic! We shall return!
I stayed here for one night whilst in a two day course. I needed to be this side of London, I didn't need a gym, I didn't need a business centre, I didn't need a pool. I needed a bed for the night and a peaceful sleep. I got both, and a breakfast for £50. Booked on the day as well, no advance discount. It's simple, clean, quiet and basic. But you might save a fortune.
