Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach a Doubletree by Hilton
- What's Included
OverviewThis contemporary hotel is located on the Intracoastal Waterway.
I have been coming to Bahia Mar for years. I have always had great service and enjoyed my ocean view room in the tower. I understand the negative comments that are being made, but I have not had bad service from the front desk or room service. I have always chosen to stay here, because of the marina and the wonderful over pass walkway to the beach. I have stayed on the marina side and in the tower facing the ocean. I prefer my breakfast and Mimosa on the balcony as the sunrises. I have taken wonderful marina photos. The pool is wonderful on a nice sunny day. It's close to shopping and the airport. It is a little outdated but the rooms are clean. The restaurant offers good food at a reasonable price for the location. I have always enjoyed room service! It is a perfect location for couples, boaters and families. Only negative comment that I can make is: Don't visit during spring break !
The person who checked us in was wonderful. She also remembered my name later that same day when I came to ask for directions to Coconuts. The staff at breakfast were all very attentive. The man that made my omlette was also great. Great huge beaches, so much to do.
The staff was horrible to deal with and the room wasn't worth the price. I booked a suite so that we'd have a door between us and the baby. Nice view, but the interior of the room was not nice - dated and sparsely furnished. Then the real fun started with the staff. Strike 1: Front desk guy complained about crying baby as I was checking in... it was my baby. Strike 2: Had reserved a crib with our room several months out. After several missed timelines the front desk stopped answering our calls. 2 hours later (11 PM) we just found the housekeeping base ourselves and at least got a crib mattress. Strike 3: My wife went down to the front desk to find a crib to put our mattress in... ended up arguing with a rude front desk guy. They threatened to kick us out. It was after midnight, but I thought they may be doing us a favor and considered it, even with a tired baby.
Wondering why a Doubletree by Hilton is one of the cheapest hotels on Fort Lauderdale beach? Read on... First of all, this is really two separate hotels joined by a walkway. We stayed in both. The older Marina building is the nicer of the two and I'd rate it as a three star. It has 4 floors and has recently been renovated. The room decor is very nice but the bathrooms are very small and the bathtubs are ancient (stained tub with difficult to use fixtures). The rooms also feel a bit damp and musty, but they are quiet. Certain rooms have balconies with two chairs but there is no way to specify a balcony room when booking. You can choose your room with the Hilton app but it doesn't show which rooms have balconies either. I searched the available room numbers on tripadvisor and found that room 423 has a balcony, so we booked it (the rooms directly under it on the 2nd and 3rd floors also have balconies. The view from 423 faces directly on the marina but you can also see the beach and ocean in the distance (see photo). The tower building sounds like it should be the better of the two, since it has ocean views and larger rooms, but it's a bit of a dump and I wouldn't rate it more than 2 stars or recommend that anyone stay there. We had an ocean view room (805). The carpets and orange box spring covers were badly stained and there was either food or vomit from a previous occupant under the corner of the bed (I didn't get close enough to see which it was). The patio door didn't close properly, so it rattled very loudly when it was windy and every motorcycle that passed on the highway sounded like it was right in the room. There is also a gap under the main room doors, so any hallway noise is very evident (like our neighbors who stumbled home drunk at 2:30am - In retrospect, I should have seen that coming when a group of young men got on the elevator with a fully inflated sex doll...oh well, live and let live). The breakfast was a bit disappointing. The continental breakfast is free for Honors gold members with a $6 charge for the hot items. So, for that price, it was fine. But, I wouldn't pay the full $24 per person that they charge others. In fact, everything here was expensive including almost $4 for a granola bar and $3 for a small bottle of water. The wifi was free, but it was very spotty.BUT, it is right across the road from a nice section of the beach and provides beach towels for you to use. It's also right next to the water taxi stop which is great. And, it's one of the more reasonably priced hotels in the area and one of the few that doesn't charge a resort fee. So, if you are just looking for a cheap place to crash near the beach, this may be it, but don't expect anything more.
You would be better staying at a motel six than this "resort" it is a dump tv didn't work carpets stained ac not working in need of a major overhaul very disappointing for a doubletree hotel Hilton I would be ashamed to have this in my portfolio of hotel not Hilton worthy. Flagship motel 6 maybe
