Hawks Cay Resort
- What's Included
OverviewHawks Cay is located in the middle of the Florida Keys on the quiet island of Duck Key. The resort is just over an hour's drive from Key West attractions and nightlife, and only minutes from the village of Marathon. Enjoy fishing, diving, dolphin encounters, water sports, kids camps, tennis and more at the only island resort that you can drive to.
Absolutely beautiful resort with Five Star Service received. Clean rooms, friendly staff and personable service. Everyone we met was super friendly and no complaints at all . We ate @ Anglers Cove one of the featured restaurants with transportation offered to & from resort.
Stayed a few days here during what I would call the off peak season (mid September after school is back in session). My family and I were lucky enough to stay in one of the Sunset villas, which has a full kitchen, laundry and one and a half bathrooms.. very convenient when you have 4 adults. The villas were a small walk away from the main lobby where most of the amenities are, but we were fine with that as it allowed us to get some sort of exercise in (there is a tram, we just opted to walk). Views are stunning and the staff were all very accommodating. The weekend brought a large crowd, but even then we didn't struggle to find beach chairs or reservations at the dolphin training experience. The week was quiet... which made the experience even more wonderful. My only issue was the dining - breakfast is served at Oceans, and that's it. There are 2 restaurants on the resort - Alma (pricey) and the newly opened Angler's Ale (limited menu). The stores closed early to me (being a spoiled NYer, Dockside closed at 8 and Island time at 7pm). My family didn't rent a car, so we were limited to what was on the resort. If we were to come back, I think a car would be necessary. One other thing to note - it is a nice distance between Key West and Miami. Just be prepared for about an hour and a half drive! Thanks for a true island experience Hawks Cay!
We've been there 3 times. Always packed with people. Restaurants are alright. Adult pool is nice and quiet barring the occasional iguana. There's a bar that separates the family pool and adult pool which is nice. Don't get me wrong, I'm a family guy, but it can get a little overwhelming by the family pool. PS Not a fan of diving with the dive op - Dive Duck Key. That's another review though.
Hawks Cay is beautiful no doubt but we really went there for our dolphin visit which did not disappoint! It was wonderful to be up close and personal with these wonderful creatures. The rooms are beautiful and there are several pools and a salt water swimming pond that connects to the dolphin pool. The views are gorgeous and the food at the outside breakfast bar in the morning was wonderful. The atmosphere says VACATION all the way. Loved the raccoons sneaking around at night looking for tidbits. The only reason I couldn't give this five stars is there are no coffee pots in the rooms and coffee was two dollars a cup downstairs. However a friend had alerted us to this inconvenience so we took our own coffee pot!
Amazing experience! Great resort, swimming with the dolphins was definitely the highlight of the trip. Very good food. Resort was very high end and close to great spear fishing reefs. The rooms were very well kept and had many amenities.
