Check in process with a boat leaves much to be desired.

After driving 6 hours with our 25’ boat in tow the arrival and check in process to Hawks Cay leaves much to desire! I have stayed in the Keys year after year and usually rent a private house; in which the property management has detailed instructions sent to us prior to checking in, this was not the case with Hawks Cay. Since the main check in area is not large enough for a truck towing a boat to pull in my husband dropped me off to check us in to our Villa, while he launched the boat at the Marina. The Marina was very busy with shopping traffic and only had one person working the counter. The person working the Marina was busy helping shopping customers check-in for a good solid 15 minutes before he helped the boat slip customers. Once my husband finally got the boat process completed he was told to go to the ramp and ask the lady there to unblock the gate and once he finally found the ramp he had to wait for 15-20 minutes for a Hawks Cay employee to get there to unlock the gate. Meanwhile, I checked us into the Villa and went to find our accommodations… The Villa was nice and clean; especially for Keys accommodations. However, they gave us the second to last Harbor Villa (furthest one away) and it was the wrong size Villa from our reservation. When I called and spoke to Management Kim was very accommodating and apologized. I was told that they did not have the 2/2 Queen/Queen Villa that we reserved and we would have to wait until the next day to get a Villa closer to our boat and with 2 Queens. I am so disappointed with the whole check-in process and the idea that we must pack our stuff up again and have it moved to get situated, because Hawks Cay over sold the Villa. Considering that we are paying a significant amount to stay at Hawks Cay I expected the check-in to be much smoother… I’m basically eating a day of my hard-earned vacation because they over sold and don’t have the correct Villa I reserved. One suggestion I have is that Hawk Cay, do a better job communicating with people arriving especially ones traveling with boats. The reservation confirmation email has zero information about the check in process. We tried to call multiple times to the Marina prior to checking in to check on our reservation and get details about the check in process. We had to leave countless messages to get someone to call us back to check on our reservations and did not get any communications prior to check in. Had we known what we know now, it would have made our check in process much less aggravating after a long day of travel. Hoping this helps others that have not stayed at this property before. Otherwise all staff members have been very courteous and attentive to our request with the property being very well maintained.

Coffee shop service

Ada at the Starbucks in the main building was fantastic with her service. She always has a smile on her face and is courteous, friendly and fast. Normally I don't write reviews on individual people but she is always pleasant and deserves recognition.

Great place - I will be back some day!

I'm a little embarrassed that it took me this long to write this review. We were there in late Feb. 2016. This place was awesome and it was a great trip. I traveled with my mother for a week of sunshine and it was just that...! We DO plan on coming back, but plan to explore other places while my mother is still able to travel freely. It was the perfect island with everything that we needed there within walking distance - hotel, pools (adult only pool!, good restaurants, swimming with the dolphins, spa, marina, etc.). If you didn't feel like walking, they had a trolley to bring you around the island. It was mid-range for price - nice, but not super expensive. Food was good (oh my - the mahi-mahi tacos!). My favorite part was the lagoon. I pretty much - every day - had a private lagoon to swim in... It was right next to the dolphin lagoon. Everyone else thought the water was too cold, but I love ocean water. We went to Kmart and bought a raft and I floated around in absolute bliss. I've recommended this resort to my friends with children - since it's a fairly easy drive from Miami airport. The resort had kid activities, but being child-free - we didn't really see too many around which is good thing (lol!)...

LIke visiting the Carribean without needing a passport

We stayed 6/11/17 through 6/17/17. This was our 4th year. 2 boys aged 17. Our daughter did not make it this year due to college summer school. Always very relaxing. The slow pace is exactly what we were looking for. We went fishing almost daily on the property and have done charters as well. Salty dog Charters on Marathon, has half day reef fishing relatively inexpensive(caught lots of snapper) or go offshore or inshore from Hawks cay Marina(we have not chartered with them). Our kids love the sports activities at Coral cay club for kids. They were able to have fun without needing to involve us so that we could do as we pleased. Very relaxing and beautiful place. The staff was very friendly and Basil who works pool side was always very helpful. Some of the other pool staff not up to his level but this is the islands and some locals operate on island time. That said, not the island time mentality not as bad as Bimini or Jamaica. We always go snorkeling as well. Each year our kids said this was a terrific trip.

Family Friendly Resort

We booked Hawks Cay for our 25th Anniversary. Only wish we could have brought our kiddo here when they were younger. Very family friendly resort with daily activities. 5 pools plus a lagoon with kayak & paddleboard rentals. Breakfast @ Ocean was a bit pricey but tasty & convenient. Lunch @ Angler & Ale overlooking the fishing docks was delish.
