Hawks Cay Resort
- What's Included
OverviewHawks Cay is located in the middle of the Florida Keys on the quiet island of Duck Key. The resort is just over an hour's drive from Key West attractions and nightlife, and only minutes from the village of Marathon. Enjoy fishing, diving, dolphin encounters, water sports, kids camps, tennis and more at the only island resort that you can drive to.
This is a very nice family hotel. And by family I mean for kids 12 and under. It feels like an all inclusive hotel but it's not. The pros: Nice tennis courts, places to fish, ok restaurants, friendly staff. The lagoon is great for kids. There is service by the pool and the lagoon and practically everywhere in the hotel. Perfect for Family reunions. Lots of activities for kids. Breakfast is super nice but it should be included.Variety of restaurants (some of them share the same menu). Alma is pricey but good. Anger and Ale is worth the visit. Although the food is nothing spectacular.Excellent service in the restaurants. The cons:No place to be when it rains. A bit crowded. Specially the main pool. Starbucks inside is the worst ever. Friendly staff but terrible coffee. The amenities and food are overpriced. For example: Mani and pedí at the spa $100. $50 per kid for kids night out plan.Rooms are a bit basic. Could be better. If you have no kids choose another place.
I have three sisters an we all live in different continents, we decided to do a family reunion for my mother´s birthday and decided to stay here for one week. This was perfect because it met everyones need and incase we needed a break from each othere we could! The kids clus was amazing, had a soccer field, basketball, pirate pool, mini golf and a regular pool. We loved having our own little house and cooking home made meals. The supermarket was about a 20 min drive which was nice. The days we did not want to cook we enjoyed the restaurants they had on site. Awesome place for a family reunion. We stayed in the Sanctuary villa dna Sunset Villa.
We had a lovely stay at this resort and I have to say it is the staff that make it so pleasant. We stayed in the hotel section. Our package included the resort fee and Valet Parking which was great. The rooms are huge and very well equipped. We did find the food and drinks rather expensive, so went into Marathon for Breakfast and Supper. It has to be said that it is a very kid friendly hotel which is lovely for families but maybe not so great for adults. Well then perhaps we shouldn't have gone in school holidays so the mistake is ours. Better planning next time!If you have the time take the snorkelling excursion to the reef . It was amazing. The reef was rich with marine life and the boat and staff were great. Don't forget to take something warm for the ride back as it can get a little cool after being in the water for a while.Well done Hawks Cay Resort!
We had a great trip to the keys over Easter Break. 2 adults, 3 kids (5, 7 and 9). We had some initial hiccups getting into our villa but management was extremely responsive and helpful. All the staff were friendly. They should probably skip the daily trash service and towels and let the housekeeping staff focus on getting the units turned over and cleaned.Pros: beautiful grounds, nice pools, enjoyed watching dolphins (we didn't spend on any extras), even though it was peak season we could always find a chair at the pools, easy access to snorkeling, diving, kayak and jet ski rentals though it was too windy while we were there to do anything except the jet skiingCons: pricey and probably overpriced, terrible meal at Oceans- I don't recommend dinner there, dock store was extremely overpriced even by resort standards, 2 bedroom villa was showing its age, bedrooms really small - barely room for queen bed in each, far from other restaurants/eating optionsHonestly we probably wouldn't stay here again due to the price though I don't know of a lot of other great family friendly options in the Keys. Tips: stop in Key Largo for groceries on the way down if coming from Miami or Marathon is about 25 min further south. We did a day trip to Key West which was nice, visited Bahia Honda state park - nice beaches but there are ungroomed so expect some sea grass but you can find nice areas and swimming was great on both sides, Turtle Hospital in Marathon was really great - make reservations and a surprise hit - Theater of the Sea in Islamorada is great for kids.
We stay at the sunset villa at the hawks and it's beautiful, the vila has everything you need ,and it's 10 minutes walks from the lagoon and the main pool,so if you want to be more center the regular rooms are more suitable. The bad things about the hawks is that everything cost money ,even a yoga class or activity for children . Also the service was terrible,we ask so many time to fix the phone and nothing happen and nobody came to change the towels even once .We were very upset about that ,But need to say that hawks give us compensation in the end .
