Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort
- What's Included
I stayed 7 nights at the Hilton and had a wonderful time. The staff and the location is great. Beach is out the door, restaurants and bars are a few blocks down the street. The hotel itself is very nice. Stayed in a junior suite with a kitchenette, you'll have to ask them to bring you up the kitchenette package if you intend to use the kitchen. Balcony had a nice ocean view. Problems encountered: 2 of the 4 elevators work, they said 3 but in 8 days, I saw only the same 2 working. It has 25 floors, so if you are towards the top, like I was, plan on waiting sometimes for up to 10-15 minutes for an elevator. Icemakers only work on 4 floors, so you'll have to take the elevators to get your ice unless you end up on one of the 4 floors with a working ice maker. I am told that this is all due to the hurricane; however, if you read reviews from back in September, the elevators were not working then either. I did not ever see anyone working on the elevators either - so not sure what the problem is. The pool is very nice with lots of space all around to enjoy, however, they do not want you taking your own food/drink out there. You are supposed to order your drinks and food from the bar at the pool. I'm sorry but when you are spending over $2,000 for a week, you should not be required to spend more money at their bar. I travel a lot and have never had an issue taking my own beverages/snacks to a pool. Overall the trip was wonderful and I can't say enough wonderful thinks about the housekeeping department, they were great and went over and above to help with things. Although the elevators and icemakers are just a minor inconvenience, I would hope that efforts are being made to fix and people should not be paying full price to have to go out of their way to get ice and wait several minutes for elevators.
So, it’s not how you start the race but end it. Generally speaking the stay was “ok”. I found the rooms to be a bit I’ll maintained and was shocked that half the elevators where down during the stay. Called service for extra pillows, got a toothbrush instead. Things happen, nothing too surprising.Fast forward to check out day. Requested late check out (have status with Hilton) told request could not be honored. NBD. Leave hotel for breakfast and return to room keys not working and a note tucked into my door. “Mr.”x” you do not have a valid card on file, please come to the front desk to place a credit card on file.” Now maybe I am being unreasonable but I would think that in 6 other trips to the front desk prior to this moment that maybe I would have been asked, my phone would have been called, an email maybe? No, a freaking note in the door saying come back down and we will reactive your key (worst part, it was a fully prepaid rate and I had no property charges). While this whole cluster-you-know-what was happening I was also informed informed that I was going to be responsible for resort fees that I was very clearly told at check in would be waived. This place really really needs to take a lesson from every of Hilton property I have stayed at. I would never in a million years recommend this hotel to anyone, ever.
I cannot say enough how nice this hotel was. Mainly due to the staff. I don't know that I've ever been to a hotel where so many people went out of their way to make my stay so incredible. Would definitely go back!!!
My co-worker received some bad news about the health of his father and the assistant GM took good care of us in the bar/lounge that evening. Further, our bartender, Shannon, was unbelievable. Super friendly and has a very witty personality! She made our stay great and helped our co-worker cope with the bad news. Thank you so much!
If you need a good place to stay, then this is a good place to be at. Staff is very friendly and ready to assist when you need any assistance (Patrick van Weelde (F&B) is doing a great 5* job – please recognize him for that!). The rooms are good (and pretty sound proof). The Illois restaurant serves a good meal – what else would you want?
