Hyatt Regency Pier 66
- What's Included
Staying here was a great experience. So many things to do just around the hotel! Breakfast at Mariners (a hotel restaurant) was amazing; the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Teri and Janice! Next time we come to this area we will definitely be staying at Pier 66 again!
As I read through recent reviews of this hotel, I saw quite a few complaints about reservation and front desk customer service, and after my experience I believe all of them. I've never experienced so much trouble with a reservation. I booked a room here through a corporate travel website for a business trip. All charges for the stay were to go onto a corporate held card, so I needed to fill out a credit card authorization form for the hotel, which is standard procedure for most hotels. After making my reservation, I called the hotel directly to send me the form. I was told something along the lines of, she was submitting the request for it and that it could be a few days before I got the form. I've worked in hotel reservations and this seemed odd to me, why she couldn't just email or fax it to me right then. But the reservation was still a week away so I figured that would be fine. 3 days later I still hadn't received it, so I called the hotel back to let them know. The girl looked up the reservation and emailed me the authorization form right away. So I'm not sure why the first lady I talked to couldn't do the same. I filled out the authorization form and sent it back via email AND fax so they were sure to get it.Fast forward to check in day. The front desk says that the reservation was canceled. I never canceled it so I asked when it was canceled and by whom. They said it was canceled via the travel website only a few hours after it was booked. So if my reservation was canceled, WHY didn't they tell me this when I called the second time for the authorization form, why would you send an authorization form for a canceled room? Or when I faxed AND emailed the authorization form back, wouldn't they see that the reservation was canceled and think that something wasn't right? Maybe try calling and asking me about it?And to top it off, instead of just apologizing for the mix-up and reinstating the reservation they made things difficult, saying they needed 72 hours notice. Finally, after 5 minutes of explaining the entire situation to the Front Desk Manager, David he agreed to reinstate the reservation as a "courtesy". Thanks for letting me give you money to stay here. Of course, had the hotel been fully booked, I'm sure they wouldn't have paid to "walk" or send me to another hotel. It was a beautiful property, but not worth the hassle of dealing with trying to make a reservation and check in. I worked at hotel front desks for 6 years and I've never seen so much disorganization in a staff.
The hotel is lovely. Our room itself was nice enough but when we opened the slider, we had nothing but a patch of dirt. The room next door had a deck and a lovely seating group. They actually had a "marina view." We did not. For nearly $300/night including parking this was unacceptable. The breakfast was good but expensive at $25 per person. We'll make a different choice next time we're in Ft. Lauderdale.
After reading some of the less than stellar reviews of the property, I was hesitant about our stay. I needn't have worried. Our experience at the hotel was great. The staff was very pleasant, everyone from the front desk, to restaurant employees and housekeeping were always friendly and helpful and really cared about the property. The iconic tower is under repair but the rooms around the pool are comfortable, with all the amenities you could need. Loved the lobby bar,The pool area is so relaxing and we loved walking along the marina. Don't miss Pelican's Landing at the end of the Marina. The food is very good, especially the tacos, the view of the yachts and the surrounding intercoastal waterway made for great atmosphere.I visited Pier 66 as a child and am so glad this special place is getting a facelift, so to speak. After 50+ years we all need a little help as we age. I look forward to visiting again and seeing the transformation of Pier 66 in the future. Thanks for a wonderful visit!
First of all the tower rooms were not available because of hurricane damage. The rooms in the two floor building surrounding the property that were available look like they are at least 20 years old. The first room they gave us on the ground floor was damp and smelled and we asked for a room on the second floor. Didn't realize until we were about to go to sleep that the HVAC did not work properly and that there was black mold in the shower. To top it off, in the morning we had cigarette smoke in our bathroom from the guy smoking in his bathroom below us.
