W Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
Just finished a multi million dollar makeover. Very welcoming, modern surroundings, split into two towers. The East tower is closer to the ocean. Modern comfortable rooms, pretty large too. Great pool (Wet East) super poolside service, cabanas and double beds available for reservation and a good light food bar, also poolside. The steak house is awesome, best steak I have had in many a year. All the staff are professional, friendly and efficient. Two small notable negatives, the pool deck also needs to be refurbished and the maid service in the room was done late in the day (5:00 and 6:00pm) on two days the other days we requested early service and that was fine. Loved the Netspresso machine in the room. A truly great one week stay.
We've been coming here annually for the past several years. Lovely suprise this year in the decor. They recently (Jan 2017) completely renovated the entire hotel. It is super stylish and chic. Carpets, walls, bed furniture - everything is new and super stylish. My only reservation for not giving this place 5 stars was some basic facilities were lacking during my stay, causing me to get sick. The water - well, it was brownish (like rusty brown)....so baths were not desirable. The hot tub at the outdoor deck (near the ocean) was drained for five of the eight days that we stayed. The outdoor showers only had cold water. Normally wouldn't mind, but it got really cold during our stay, so we really needed warming up. I ended up getting a really bad cold. I hope they especially sort out the brownish water coming from the taps. As a short term weekend getaway, I'd give this place thumbs up. The nearby beach is really nice. Their mandatory daily $25 resort fee covers beach chairs, fitness classes and bikes, internet which you still have to pay even if you don't use those things (or get them free through spg). Overall, I think they should just include the fee in the base price.
W Hotels can be spotty. The one at the LA airport is truly garbage. The one in Westwood is terrific. The one in Tines Swuare is below par. The one in Ft Lauderdale is beautiful. The layout is inconvenient but the rooms are perfection.
This is my 2nd time staying at "The W Fort Lauderdale" and I LOVED it. First there are a "few things" that you need to know. This hotel is very unique, hip, classy and from what I see...for the younger/GenX crowd. The first challenge is actually finding an entrance into the property, very difficult. There is still some construction going on, so some areas are blocked. There are many layers of elevators on the property, make sure you know where your staying; Tower 1 or Tower 2. The lobby is on the 4th floor. VERY cool, architecture is absolutely beautiful, light "club" music playing in the background and a young, beautiful professional staff waiting to check you in. Easy check-in and was upgraded to the Executive Suite on the Penthouse floor! Even the elevators are SO cool, dark with LED purple lights. Once you actually reach your room, you will walk approximately 15 minutes...no joke, the property is huge. The room is stunning- HUGE living room, FULL kitchen with lavish cobalt blue high gloss cabinets, stainless steel appliances (including dishwasher), sunken tub, walk-in shower, washing/dryer, 2 TVs, charging stations for iPhones, dual balconies & the BEST amenities from The Bliss Spa that your will ever use. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony doors open completely up for a view of the ocean and Intercostal...stunning. Room was fresh, airy and very spotless. The infinity pools are beautiful and the pool staff are professional and make your time at the pool very enjoyable. Again, younger professional crowd, club music playing and beautiful people all around. Fruited ice water and apples are plentiful. Poolside concierge service is spot-on... but you're going to pay for it. 2 salads with chicken/shrimp, 4 drinks with tip= $112. Again, walking to and from the pools depending on what Tower your in..will take some time to get too. Overall, I loved this property. I had no issues as some on here have experienced.
This review will be 2-fold.First - The Hotel itself is stunning. Architecture is amazing, and the floors, textures, and lighting are great. Confusing check-in though after dropping off car at valet - "Go down that hall, get on elevator, go to 4th floor for check-in". I've never heard of a Lobby being on the 4th floor. Alyssa at check-in was great, and she upgraded us to the Executive Suite. Now - get on elevator, go to 5th floor, walk outside to Tower 2, get on elevator, go to 24th floor (top), and you'll find your room. Finally got there, and the key cards didn't work. Called desk, they sent Security guy with new key cards. Room was terrific, with a full size kitchen, living room, dual balconies, washer and dryer, sunken tub, etc. Loved it!!Second - The main pool area is fantastic! You are assisted with setting up your lounge chair, and lots of fresh towels to use. Cool water and fresh apples for you too. Great service as far as ordering drinks and food too - arriving promptly. I think, however, that a pina colada in a plastic cup (smaller than a Solo cup) with a small wedge of pineapple should NOT be $15.00. Drink was great, but the price left a bad taste in my mouth.....Overall - Would I stay here again? I'm not sure. The confusing layout - with multiple elevators and such, NO actual "front door" to get in to the hotel - you enter thru the valet area - I got the impression that it's designed to keep you confused and on the property - almost like an Escape Room!!!
