W Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
The W was definitely an upscale hotel. They had evening activities every night and a lovely pool and "living room"/bar area. I didn't eat at the restaurants (be warned - they are VERY expensive), but a very highly-rated steakhouse with a jellyfish aquarium is onsite. My room had a lovely espresso machine. Snacks and water in the room for purchase. Oddly, when I checked in I had no ironing board, my phone didn't work and the magnifying mirror fell off the wall. I reported those things to the desk and they were fixed right away. Next time I tried to iron, the iron itself wouldn't get hot enough to actually work. Upside - I had a BEAUTIFUL private balcony with comfortable furniture overlooking the ocean. Also, if you are going soon, there is massive construction that interferes with some indoor and outdoor amenities. It's either hurricane damage or remodeling (or both). Overall - it's a solid pick. Nice hotel.
Just got through staying here for 4 days and I can honestly say I'm sorry I did.Upon our arrival we had 4 suitcases and were never offered assistance. Then when we checked in we were not told our wi fi password and still no offer for luggage help.Whenever we came down and requested a taxi none were available, they said it would be a 10 to 15 minute wait so we used Uber.Personally we still prefer taxi service. The room was also not very good,if you get up to go to use the bathroom and turn on the light it shows through the whole room, waking the other person in bed.Food and beverage service was generally poor but one day by the pool we did have a good waitress.Save your money folks and do not pay 5 star service for 2 star service.
There are plenty of choices in Fort Lauderdale. With family in the area, I have bounced around many options and this is BY FAR one of my favorites. Simply put, it's beautiful, fun, full of helpful staff and well run!The hotel is huge, but easy to navigate. upon check in, the basics are laid out (pool on 5th floor, restaurant on the ground level, etc) There are plenty of elevators so we never had to wait long to get up to our room. The rooms are full of natural light and views of the Intercoastal and the Atlantic Ocean. Decor is that fun, modern "W" style (warning, there is little privacy in your room for the shower and facilities, so fair warning if you are not traveling with a loved one). The pool was fantastic. There is DJ playing music that keeps you dancing in your lounger - 80s, 90s, 00s, today all mixed in... so really, something for everyone. And the pool itself is a piece of art. Everything about the deck - from the towels service, to the wait staff, to the music to the pool was pitch perfect. The restaurant was divine. We ate there 2x in a weekend just because the food was prepared so well. Steak salads, Grouper sandwiches, Steak & eggs,... it's a steak restaurant, so the theme is meat! When in the area, we will stay here again!
We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and absolutely regretted it. The staff couldn’t care less about hotel guests or their concerns. The pictures of the room we booked and the actual room weren’t the same (3/4 the size) and their response was: well you have a deck and all the rooms are different. Even though they admitted the picture was deceiving. The elevators have a ridiculously long wait time and what makes it worse: hotel staff use the guest elevators to go up or down a couple floors! We started taking the stairs, and we were on the 12th floor. The other guests at the hotel was are a detraction too, as this hotel is the southern Jersey Shore. Classless, loud, rude, and “wanna be’s” who obviously don’t know the difference between quality and fake/faux class. The pool area is jam-packed with chairs and beds to rent, but the pool itself is small. Yes the pool’s see-though plexi stairwell is cool, but that’s as good as it gets. Also to order a drink, food, or have pool staff help you, you had “to be somebody” or pretend to be, which is frustrating as people who wanted and could afford to spend money on service but were tired and offended in being blown off or ignored.Good: the ocean is across the street but a lot of hotels can say that and the Hilton is next door. Which we’d recommend booking and eating at. The gym offers apples and has an average amount of cardio and weights.Nutshell: stay somewhere else, this place is a waste of money and the definition of shallow. Oh, and there’s a ton of construction noise.
Stayed here for our staycation/honeymoon. After our prompt check in we went downstairs to eat at Steak 954. Great tasting cocktails here on the menu. The tuna tacos for an appetizer was amazing. We had the filet mignon and it just melted in my mouth. We spent the evening at the living room where they had free cigars and a dj. Very relaxed lounge atmosphere. The next day we hit the pool. A gentleman named Fabiano that was very friendly set up our chairs for us and we had Fabio as a bartender and Amanda serving us. Fabio mixed us some of the best mojitos we've ever had and Amanda made sure we never went thirsty. Later in the evening we had sushi from the restaurant which was excellent. Throughout our entire stay Raul, the Concierge would greet us as we crossed paths and made sure we were having a enjoyable stay. I can't say one negative thing about this property. The staff, the vibe, and the property is top notch. I live in the South Florida area and like to staycation often and the W hotel well exceeded my expectations. I will be returning here often for future visits.
