W Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
Friends & I recently had the pleasure of staying in a self catering apartment in Tower 2 of the W & had an absolutely wonderful time. The apartment was luxurious & well appointed with plenty of space & a magnificent sea view. The only downside we found was that it was slightly lacking in basic cooking utensils etc which is odd for somewhere with a fully appointed kitchen. I can understand most people might eat out but there should at least be 4 mugs for an apartment which sleeps 5 people. That having been said we did request a few items from reception & they were always more than happy to assist & provide whatever we needed. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who is travelling in a group or family who like to have a large area to themselves.
W is located nicely at North Ft Lauderdale Beach, right across the street on the Atlantic Ocean. Lots of bars, restaurants, rentals, entertainment. W has large rooms, modern, inexpensive, good staff, parking, friendly atmosphere, all the amenities.
I decided to stay on my birthday at W Hotel and booked my reservation throw Expedia. The payment for 3 nights was taken,I received my confirmation email and it says clearly my reservation was made and I don't have to call to reconfirm. 1 day before my trip started, I checked my bank account and did not see charge for my booking. I decided to call to hotel just in case to check my reservation. HOTEL TOLD ME THEY DO NOT HAVE MY RESERVATION!!!! I called to Expedia.EXPEDIA HAD MY RESERVATION! !! How come???I am a foreigner,it was extremely difficult for me to speak and understand guy from India. I was on hold for 30 min when he tried to fix the situation. After I called to hotel again. The room that I originally choose was taken. I had to call supervisor 3 times next day between my flights from different airports when I was able to make a calls. I wanted make sure that when I will come at Fort Lauderdale at 2 a.m. I WILL NOT SLEEP ON THE STREET. Finally, supervisor called me back and say that I will have a room but it will be different room which I did not booked and did not liked. I booked hotel with breakfast. When we arrived, receptionist told us that I have breakfast only for 1 day. On next morning I asked again and another receptionist told me, I have breakfast for 2 days. When I asked why, she told me because I had reservation for 2 nights. Why did I had reservation for 2 nights if I payed for 3??? Finally they fixed it. We arrived on the ground floor, but reception is is on the 4th and it is no sigh about it. It is very confusing when you arriving to hotel at 2 a.m.Also, the white robes were advertised on pictures on every booking site. It was no robes in our room. The water in toilet badly flushed. Not enough lights in bathroom and it is impossible to put make up on there. The pillows on the bed had mold smell. After checking out, in few days I noised some extra charge around $9.n my bank statement. I called back to hotel . They explained me, I took a bottle of Smart water. We did not take this water and it was not nice charge me for nothing.
What a classy beautiful hotel resort property right across the street from a pretty beach on the Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the only properties that actually gives you good value for their daily resort fee charge of $20. We love the beach and enjoy bike riding so this worked out very well for us. Two beach lounge chairs and an umbrella cost $50 per day on the beach but they include it with the resort fee as well as 2 daily bicycle rentals for up to 4 hours. We have seen many resorts trying to charge a daily resort fee without providing any value such as including two bottles of water and internet service which are included for Platinum SPG members. The hotel is stunning and very well maintained. They recently completed a major renovation and it shows. They have a fantastic pool area with all kinds of lounge chairs and cabanas including the proverbial disco background music you hear at every W Hotel. Pool water was nice and warm and they also had a hot tub at the other more quiet pool in Tower 2. We tried the pool the first day and the waitress service for drinks and lunch was great poolside. Then I went to the bar at the pool to hang out and the two female bartenders were fun to talk to and made us great drinks. Great vibe and atmosphere at the main pool to relax. They had a very reasonably priced Continental breakfast in the Living Room every morning with complimentary coffee which was good. They are very service oriented and the staff at check in was very nice especially Raul who was a manager who really aimed to please. We were very happy with the room upgrade he provided and we had a spectacular oceanfront view of the beach looking south that included a couch on the balcony. We also would highly recommend Steak 954 for lunch. We had a chopped salad with grilled shrimp that was excellent. Great atmosphere because we sat outside on an elevated patio overlooking the beach on a beautiful sunny day. We also went back there for dinner another night and it was excellent as well. The hotel was 100% full due to the Boat Show in town but it didn't seem crowded at all. Parking was expensive at $40 per night but that is the typical cost down at the beachfront. You might be better off not getting a rental car and taking Uber from the airport while staying here.Next time in Fort Lauderdale I will definitely stay here again.
I stayed here three nights 13-17 November 2017. Check in was friendly and efficient. Obviously you arrive on the ground floor, but reception is is on the 4th. There are only three lifts and they take an age to arrive. All of the staff are very friendly. Check out was as easy and efficient as check in.The room was large, but dimly lit. There is a light around the headboard, two lamps on the headboard and a lamp by the desk. The lobby area has plenty of light with a dimmable switch. There is a Nespresso coffee machine and a free bottle of water. The tv was big and had plenty of HD channels. There are ample sockets and each side of the bed had two USB points. The Wi-Fi is quite fast and is around $18 for three days. I’m an SPG member so it was free. The room safe is big and has both a light and power point. The bed was comfortable and I slept well every night. The bathroom arrangement is odd and I’m not sure how it would work with two friends sharing. There is no door to the actual bathroom. On the left is a frosted glass compartment for the toilet. The shower is has a frosted glass panel into the bedroom and I have no idea how private it is. The toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, gel, soap, face scrub and body butter) smell nice. There is no plug in the sink which means that if you are a wet shaver like me, you have to keep the water running continuously, which isn’t very eco friendly. It also means you have to be careful when cleaning your contact lenses! The bathroom is also dimly lit.The pool area is interesting and there’s actually a set of stairs that pass through it to access the next level down. They give you plenty of big, soft towels. There is a man called Dervin Webb, who works at the hotel, who is very helpful. He gave me a pass for a free ticket on the water taxi, this saved me $21. I only have a few niggles. The music in the lifts is almost obtrusive. The lifts are slow in arriving and too few in number. The toilet roll holder in my bathroom was wonky and it would appear to have been that way for a while. All in all though, a good stay in a good hotel.
