W Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
We love W hotels around te world and try to visit them when we can, after staying at W hotel in Miami Beach this hotel is an average hotel.Despite we paid our holiday package with upgrade and being gold member of SPG which means we should have a second upgrade of room we were surprised when we arrived to have a room in the 7 floor looking the parking! we complained and they moved us to 11 floor looking the city, better room but not for the standard we have been before in other W hotels. People are reception were not too helpful, always in a rush and sometime making jokes which I didn't appreciate. we were there for a week, pool was too busy, basically you just go inside to stand up close to another 20 people, we ordered our welcome drinks in the bar but they charged in the invoice even when they suppose to be free, we ordered food at the bar and it never came even it was hummus and chips, easy to prepare. We were surprised the pictures of the terrace looks so nice in the website but when you arrive the sofas are old and don't look as nice as it looks.this hotel is not as W standards in my opinion. So if you have been in another one before be aware that this is not the same quality and attention. After complaining we were moved the 4th day to the room we should have been from the begining, floor 17 looking the sea and this made a big difference, despite by that day the hurricane irma was coming to Florida and we received a letter to evacuate hotel by noon next day. even when we could spend one more night in this hotel we went to the room and the furniture from the balcony was already inside our room! they came into our room and instead of cleaning or making the bed they already invited us to leave the same day as they put all furniture inside the room. So we left, with not much help from the reception in what to do in case of hurricane or where to go. I think depends of what you expect from a hotel. I visit W hotels for their originality , special treatment and friendliness with guess, something I didn't find in this one unfortunately.
Many things were wrong with this hotel but nothing that the hotel manager did not handle. Any issues that my family or any other guests encountered the managers was very good at filling in for the problem. The hotel had a great 2 pools and a great spa. One pool for all hotel guests and one pool only for the condo side of the pool, slightly quieter then the main pool. The hotel shampoo and conditioner etc are all from the company bliss which provide great products. The spa is also ran by bliss so you can expect great products available all across the hotel. The hotel lobby had a newly opened sushi bar. The food was decent but the price was outrageous. The hotel had just undergone renovations so the club that used to exist no longer exists. The lobby had a patio deck over the road but that also has a great view of the beach, great place to be for sunrises as well as sunset. The hotel rooms were clean with great amenities. The general public hotel pool is a rooftop pool overlooking the same street and beach as the deck but really cool to see when you are in the pool. The terrace that allows you to transfer from both towers of the hotel has some turf great for some games. There were a few kids playing soccer on the turf. From the terrace you can see the channel which once again is really cool and great for pictures and videos. The experience at the hotel was overall pretty good with a few issues that were all handled very well.
Fort Lauderdale is one of our favourite places to visit with our two kids. If you haven't been, it's a must. Stretches of quiet, clean beaches and the W is literally across the street from all this! This stay at the W, was our second time there and our fifth in Fort Lauderdale. The experience itself never disappoints. The W is a beautiful, clean, well-maintained property with attentive staff. I especially love their front desk crew, they're always friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room itself was clean and relaxing however, being that we are a family of two girls, it was more than slightly awkward to discover our shower was surrounded by clear glass! It was odd as our first time there, we got a room with shutters around the shower that you can at least close! We notified staff and they came around with a portable shower curtain to cover up the glass - which, we thought was kind of "not thought over carefully".The pool is wonderful, they actually have two. The larger one facing the beach which gets quite busy during the day. The staff are very accommodating and bring out towels right away. The food poolside was pretty good albeit being pretty expensive if you were to eat there every day for a family of four. There were a couple of days we actually walked to Subway, two or three blocks away to get sandwiches to bring back to the pool and the staff/hotel were completely okay with that. The smaller pool is much quieter and we spent almost every day there instead of the bigger, busier pool. The kids loved having the pool almost all to themselves. We also loved the fact that they provided lemon/like water poolside so we kept hydrated the whole time!Food-wise, for families is easy! Within walking distance, you have your selection of Subway, Pizza, Thai, American, etc and an expensive Uber-ride away were burger joints, PF Changs at the mall. Our absolute must, every time we are in FLL, is Primanti Brothers. They are a local, family-run pizza joint located on 901 North Atlantic Blvd. It's about a 15 minute stroll north, from the W. The pizza is SOOOOO good, my mouth is watering as I write this review. We always get an XL to share...I need to stop writing about it as I'm hungry now. Also, above Primanti's is a Thai restaurant, also local, family-run and it's also a must-try. Their curry...wow!!!All in all, Fort Lauderdale is the place to go and he W is the place to stay!
We went for our anniversary. Rooms are very modern. Our room over looked the beach which was beautiful. Unfortunatelywe had some problems with the room, which was brought to their attention Saturday morning at 8:30am, but by the time we returned at 4:30 nothing had been fixed. We called only to be told they would send someone up. No apology or explanation of why the issues were not addressed the entire day. We had dinner reservations which we had to cancel because we did not have enough time to get ready. We were told a manager would call in the morning on Sunday, but she did not. Upon check out on Sunday we asked if she would talk to us . I'm not sure she ever would have addressed the issue if we did not press them. She was very nice, but missed the customer service aspect. She ended up by crediting us some Marriott reward points. SOMEBODYcould have tried to salvage any part of our evening. Maybe offered to help us get dinner reservations anywhere in Fort Lauderdale so we were not scrambling? Just food for thought.
I stayed at the W Fort Lauderdale September 9-12 and had a great time. The location of the hotel is right across from the beach, perfect for going out for runs, swims and other beach activities. Not too many restaurants in the area nor shops, unless you get into a car.As with other W hotels, the lobby was cool,. smelled lovely and had a very energetic vibe with the music going. The bar had nightly entertainment and the food served in the restaurant and poolside were all great- American sized portions. Drinks were a bit on the expensive side.Lots of weddings going on that weekend, and the pool area was a sea of families and kids...too many for me, so I opted for the beach, which was nicer as the water was warm and calm. The room itself was well appointed, and everything worked well. Spacious deck outside and lots of room overall. So would I recommend this hotel? For sure, good value and good times will be had for sure! Happy travels everyone!
