Westin Beach Resort Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
Once we arrived the service at the front desk could not answer any questions we asked. When we went to the breakfast, we assumed it was complementary because there were no one said anything and there were not signs that said it was 26 dollars a person! Nobody decided to tell us it was such a high price and we found out when we received our 80$ bill amd had to pay, We soon decided to go to the frount desk in order to ask why they had charged us for the breakfast wothout warning and the woman responded with "its not complementry, There's a sign" then proceeded to show us this tiny sign on the wall.
I went through the trouble of making a trip advisor account and downloading the app just to share what a scam this hotel is. Went to the hotels breakfast buffet (thinking it was complimentary like most hotels) and left paying $70 for 3 people. No one told us there was a $26 charge for each person. People, this was not a steak and eggs breakfast either- simply scrambled eggs and bacon. When we expressed how upset we were to the front desk we were told nothing at the hotel is complimentary and that there was a sign. Which, there was not- plus who looks for a sign that says your continental breakfast is going to break the bank- especially since you're already paying $170 a night. Also, we upon checking in in the AM we were told to enjoy their breakfast buffet. Not a word was said about the crazy price.
If I would pay for three stars hotel I would be ok but I expect to get much more for their prices / 4 stars hotel. 1. No lights on the pool so they're closing at 7pm. In July. It's a joke. 2. 44$ resort fee and I had to pay for beach chairs and umbrella. 46$/day.3. Freaking music from the restaurant deck. Lame covers with carribean accents. So loud you cannot read the book 500ft away. 4. Walls so thin you hear kids running on the hallways, next door and upstairs. 5. Dirty pool area. A lot of sand on the surrounding deck and in the water. 6. Scratched furniture in the room. 7. If you have back room - you'll see the perking lit only. Pretty high. From 7th floor I have a car 20ft away my window.
I've never written a review before but quickly downloaded trip advisor as I felt the need to for this trip. We had high hopes for this hotel but we're sadly disappointed with the customer service and resort fees that we experienced.1. Customer service- upon checking in we were welcomed by an unfriendly cold receptionist and at check out we were left with a receptionist that couldn't answer any questions about our extra charges. He gave us the run around several times, wouldn't look at us, and actually acted like I was lying and twisted my words around. I was so frustrated and he did nothing to alleviate it.2. Resort fees- upon booking we were told we would have to give them a card for a $100 hold for a security deposit. Upon checking in I double checked with the receptionist that this was all the card was for and she assured me. I actually asked her- so nothing will be charged to this card, right? And she replied with- as long as everything is in tact. Turned out the $100 was resort fees and we WERE charged on the card for them. We were told our beach chairs were included in our room rental but then were hassled at the beach because we didn't have a certain card saying we could use them. When we went back to the hotel to inquire about it they said the third party had messed up our reservation and that they would fix it to include the chairs. Turned out they charged us $45 to use the chairs and never told us and when we were trying to explain this to the receptionist he said I was lying that I didn't know about it. I ended up leaving in tears which is more than unacceptable.
I have never written a review but felt compelled for this particular visit. We had stayed at this location last year in the oceanfront, executive suite and had a fairly good experience so we booked the same room for our week's stay this year. On the second day of our trip I called regarding our leaky bathroom faucet. Not leaky as leaking into the sink, but ALL OVER the counter. With a 4 and 2 year old who take forever to wash hands and brush teeth you can imagine how much of a mess this created. The person who came up said that they knew of the problem and the cartridges for this repair would be in Tuesday or Wednesday (this was Sunday). We could not keep anything on the counter, I had to clean the counter tops EVERY SINGLE DAY of my vacation, several times a day. As a mom of two young kids, I was not super happy about that. This was never addressed by management at all nor was it fixed during our stay. what really upset me was the fact that they knew about the issue, but sold the room anyway. The texting service did ask how my stay was and when I told them about the issue, they said they would notify management to reach out and they (the texting service) did credit my account $75, which in my opinion, I would have rather not had to deal with a mess than have a $75 credit to an already expensive room. Still never heard from management.Moving on, our first night there we ordered a bucket and flutes for our anniversay and it took over an hour. They did comp a bottle of champagne but as parents of 2 young kids we had already drank a glass out of solo cups and went to sleep. On another night we decided to order from Sirens and go down and pick it up because the room service took so long the other night. My husband brought up the order, which was missing things like the goat cheese on the salad. Finally, and this is the issue that really upset me. We were walking to the pool in the hallway on our floor. I guess my 4 year old was not walking fast enough for this staff member, but he tried to slide by her, miscalculated her and then knocked her over so that she was face down on the floor. He continued to walk and apologized as he was walking, didn't even help her up or stop to be sure she was ok. Then had the audacity to walk back by and tell her she should be more careful. My husband and I were fuming. I have never experienced anything like that. The location is great. The pool is nice and the woman who is always down there is fantastic and friendly. The only real plus side to this particular stay.
