Westin Beach Resort Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
My family had previous reservations at the Crowne Plaza, which were cancelled, and found a room available at the Westin online. When we arrived at the lobby, it did not seem to be busy at all. I approached the counter as soon as I walked in. I am going to outline the red flags that happened consecutively before management intervened:1: We were never greeted, Im not talking about how is your day or was she smiling, I'm talking about "hello". 2: She tells me that I am getting a view of the river. I told her I booked an ocean view room. She starts arguing with me. She keeps telling me to pull up my confirmation. I asked her if I needed it to proceed with this transaction, she said no. So I told her to proceed. She kept waiting for me to look it up on my phone so that she can show me. By now I'm curious so I pull out my phone and I'm scrolling down. I see what she was talking about. She snatches my phone!!! Starts to read it to me and pointing to it like I can neither read nor follow directions. It took everything in me not to throat punch her. My kids just scattered at this moment. They knew better. A supervisor comes to try to rectify the situation. I told him what happened. Under no circumstances is that acceptable. He attempted to calm thing down the best he could. He gave us an ocean view room. When we get up to our room, the carpets are wet????!!!Why are the carpets wet??? There's a damp stale odor. And then I hear some dogs bark, and bark, and bark, and bark some more. It was horrific!!!!I was given some complimentary breakfast coupons which I was told by the restaurant were not valid. I will not go back. I'm very disappointed and quite disgusted. I'm a frequent W customer. This is stuff you see at a motel. People go to W's to get away from this. Maybe it's a Florida thing.
Check in was quick. I paid to upgrade to a room with a canal view. This was not worth it, as my view was mostly of a car parking lot, although the canal was visible in the distance. Internet connection was good. NOTE: There is a $45 resort fee. I sat on a pool chair for about 15 minutes & my wife used the pool for about the same time. Not sure if this fee is mandatory.Starbucks is very nearby. The hotel lobby bar was very nice. It would have been nice to sit and drink at an outdoor bar, but it was too hot and humid. There are many restaurants and bars nearby. Although I did not feel unsafe, it would be wise to be careful at night, while walking near the hotel and towards the restaurants and bars. This applies to any city. Again, i did not feel unsafe, as we were only out until 9pm.
My family and I came to this hotel after Hurricane Irma. We lost power and came here to stay. After a whirlwind of a week of preparation for the storm and dealing with the aftermath it was nice to come to such a nice hotel. Storme has been nothing short of amazing. He welcomed us with such a warm smile and comfort. He was so sweet with our two young daughters and made us feel right at home. Throughout our stay Storme has gone above and beyond to make sure we were okay. Storme's small gestures helped make this very difficult time for our family much easier. Everyone has been very kind and helpful to us throughout our stay but Storme always went that extra mile. We will definitely be back because of this!
I've always loved Starwood Properties and the Westin on Ft Lauderdale Beach did not disappoint. We did need a room for the night, due to not having power at our home, not too far from the beach. Unfortunately, I was not able to book directly on the hotel website, said no rooms available. I was able to get a room on Travelocity. When I checked in, I was not able to get my points because of this, which was disappointing. The pool was not open, due to the hurricane, but, the Siren's Song Bar was...excellent Margaritas! The room was nice, king bed was very comfy, Westin and W are known for this! Huge TV and good sized fridge. The shower was great, very soft towels, and wonderful skin and hair products. I was NOT pleased with the view. I understand that there may have to be rooms that overlook the roof and air conditioning compressors, however, one should be told! The Resort Fee was waived, due to the closed pool, however, there was the valet fee, $39 a day! Pretty steep. It is conveniently located...we were able to walk to several restaurants and bars, and, the beach is right across the street. I would consider staying here again.
My family stayed at the Westin, 2 days after Hurricane Irma wiped out power and resources in Ft Lauderdale, Where we live. They were EXTREMELY helpful and didn't gouge their customers. They even waived the $45 a day "resort Fee" since the pool and other things were not operational. Lilly at the front desk was very very helpful in getting us set up in our rooms, and switching 1 room that was without AC. Bobby at the desk was fantastic with allowing us to extend our stay, day by day (as we awaited the return of electricity to our house) and not lose our room or rate. This saved us ALOT of $$$.. I think he worked like 15 hrs a day. He was always helping someone. Timothy is the new restaurant manager and was great. The 1st night, there was no bartender, We ALL needed a drink, so he jumped in and served like a pro. All the while, running the restaurant and taking food orders. The hotel itself is very nice. No real problems. I feel it's a great value for the location. Other hotels on the beach cost MUCH more...
