Westin Beach Resort Fort Lauderdale
- What's Included
This is a great hotel with a private bridge access to beach, stunning view rooms but service is poor and hotel itself is VERY crowded, hover the location loved the view and beach not so much the service
I always look forward to a long weekend on Fort Lauderdale Beach. My recent stay at the Westin was my 5th trip there over the last 7 years or so. I have stayed at a handful of other properties along the beach as well as this property about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, this stay did not live up to my expectations.Pros: Welcoming lobby with fruit water and the signature white tea Westin scent. The hotel did honor our room request for a high floor in the south towerGreat central location on the beach. The ocean front rooms with a beautiful view of the beach. Just beware, there are no balconies at this hotel, only a large sliding door with a railing. Crosswalk over A1ACons:Service. We did encounter some employees that truly lived up to our expectation of service and hospitality from a Westin. However, with some guidance from management I think the many of the other employees could obtain a higher level of service that I would expect from a Westin. The resort fee here is one of the highest on the beach ($37). The W charges $30 and the Hilton $33. **This fee no longer includes chairs lounge chairs at the beach because the resort now uses a 3rd party vendor. The previously mentioned properties include the chairs on the beach (umbrellas are extra) with the resort fee. Towels at the pool. I felt like I was signing my life away to get 2 towels. In the evening we then took the towels up to our room because we were still wet. Upon returning the towels the early next morning I was informed that I had already been charged for the towels. The pool attendant did text someone to take care of the issue, however I felt like I was really in the wrong. If a resort feel is what you are after, I recommend staying at the Hilton Beach Resort or the W. Don’t get me wrong, the Westin is a nice hotel on the beach. However if you are looking for the resort services and experience you are paying for, I would suggest looking into a different property on the beach. Highlights of things to do in the area:Trip on the water taxi- Great thing to do in the evening before dinner and the evening pass is only $15 starting at 5pm. Stop 8 is within walking distance of the hotel. It’s much more than just a taxi ride because the taxi guide gives facts about the area, homes and boats along the way. You can get off on Las Olas Blvd and enjoy walking around downtown or heading to one of the many restaurants. Restaurants: Casablanca Café- Probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Great atmosphere, food and live music. Coconuts- located on the intercoastal, offering waterfront dinning with good food. The outdoor seating at Steak 954 also provided a relaxing atmosphere with views of the beach and nice décor. However, it was pricey for a lunch. We went to the Atlantic Grill for breakfast one morning. The service wasn’t super quick but our omelets were good. They also offer an $18 bottomless drink where you can choose from Mimosa, Bellini, Screwdriver and Bloody Mary.
The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly, going above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and assisting you with what ever need you had. more specifically, Robert Kane, and Junior with luggage provided truly top notch customer service. The manager Robert Munn was extremely helpful with what ever questions you had, and went above and beyond to assist you in any way he could. Then there was the Security Leo Pena who was also very helpful in assisting his services, while also being very warm and friendly. overall this trip was a very memorable one. the staff can be given credit to why I will be looking forward to returning to the Westin hotel my next trip back to Ft. Lauderdale.
Did not have to even see our cars once, being able to walk everywhere we needed to go was a huge bonus. Certain staff members made this trip incredible as they were very welcoming and friendly, Robert Kane and Junior from luggage assistance were personable and upbeat. Them as well as Robert Munn the manager and Leo Pena from Security gave above and beyond an excellent service.
We stayed at the Westin while in town with 70 people for a Buffalo Bills- Miami Dolphins game. The hotel was extremely accommodating to us. We had an ocean view which was tremendous. The pool was super along with the Bar. The main restaurant was under construction while we were there, but the food at the bar and breakfast from the coffee shop was good. Just a few blocks away from The Elbow Room and all kinds of bars and restaurants. Close to the Water Taxi stop, which is expensive but a great tour of the inner coastal. The last day we discovered an awesome rooftop lounge.
