Great Service at an average Resort

We stayed a week at The Westin Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale during a recent conference. The location is very picturesque, one side faces the ocean and the other a lagoon with tall city buildings in the distance. The ocean is just a few steps from the Resort. The advertising brochures and pictures suggest excellent rooms but the reality is a little different. For the price, the Resort is somewhat dated and could use some interior renovations and upgrades especially the flooring and bathrooms. The in-house food is very expensive and mediocre but there is a great restaurant on the first floor as well as a Starbucks though both with limited hours. The service is excellent and the front desk very pleasant and helpful. Jessica Alvarez, was one particularly exceptional attendant, always with a genuine and inviting smile. The door-hops were very attentive and helpful too.

Stay at another hotel!

We were visiting Ft. Lauderdale for a family function and planned on extending a few days. Would NOT stay at this hotel again. First of all, it's extremely crowded and noisy. This is certainly not management's fault. However, the overall experience left us wishing we had stayed at another hotel. The pool area is very small, particularly for a hotel this large. The beach was unfortunately full of litter (cigarette butts, empty bottles, etc.) A little effort by the hotel to clean up would be nice, especially since you're charged for chairs and umbrellas. They advertise as "their private beach" yet they clearly do nothing to maintain it.We checked in a day late b/c our flight was delayed (Don't evet fly JetBlue...but that's another review). They did hold our reservation (of course at full price, they should) and we were given a room right neat the elevator and directly overlooking the pool (no privacy with the curtains open) When my wife requested a higher floor, she was told there was nothing they could do. However, other members of our party checked in after us and were given higher floors in the quieter South Tower. Another bad experience, although very minor was when I attempted to purchase something from the gift shop on our last day. The clerk informed me that I could not charge anything to the room b/c we were checking out that day. We hadn't even checked out yet. Never heard of such a silly policy. Also, the "so-called" free wifi was non-existent. We could not get a signal anywhere in the hotel. Everyone in our party had the same issue. Had to go outside the hotel to make calls. Unheard of.Overall, this wasn't the worst hotel we've stayed at but it was far from the best. The rooms need updating, the service needs improvement, and for the price, I would suggest staying at the Ritz a few doors down.

Absolutely the worst.

Once we arrived the service at the front desk could not answer any questions we asked. When we went to the breakfast, we assumed it was complementary because there were no one said anything and there were not signs that said it was 26 dollars a person! Nobody decided to tell us it was such a high price and we found out when we received our 80$ bill amd had to pay, We soon decided to go to the frount desk in order to ask why they had charged us for the breakfast wothout warning and the woman responded with "its not complementry, There's a sign" then proceeded to show us this tiny sign on the wall.

Sneaky up charges

I went through the trouble of making a trip advisor account and downloading the app just to share what a scam this hotel is. Went to the hotels breakfast buffet (thinking it was complimentary like most hotels) and left paying $70 for 3 people. No one told us there was a $26 charge for each person. People, this was not a steak and eggs breakfast either- simply scrambled eggs and bacon. When we expressed how upset we were to the front desk we were told nothing at the hotel is complimentary and that there was a sign. Which, there was not- plus who looks for a sign that says your continental breakfast is going to break the bank- especially since you're already paying $170 a night. Also, we upon checking in in the AM we were told to enjoy their breakfast buffet. Not a word was said about the crazy price.

NOT 4 stars hotel

If I would pay for three stars hotel I would be ok but I expect to get much more for their prices / 4 stars hotel. 1. No lights on the pool so they're closing at 7pm. In July. It's a joke. 2. 44$ resort fee and I had to pay for beach chairs and umbrella. 46$/day.3. Freaking music from the restaurant deck. Lame covers with carribean accents. So loud you cannot read the book 500ft away. 4. Walls so thin you hear kids running on the hallways, next door and upstairs. 5. Dirty pool area. A lot of sand on the surrounding deck and in the water. 6. Scratched furniture in the room. 7. If you have back room - you'll see the perking lit only. Pretty high. From 7th floor I have a car 20ft away my window.
