Hotel is right across from the beach and ocean. Great location for getting to other restrauants and night life at other bars & restrauants. The front lobby and main restrauants are under revocation. Okay happy hour and appetizers. Great to fantastic show rooms. We had a fantastic room with ocean view. Only disappointment was the $30 a night resort fee and parking if you had a vehicle. Great customer service.
We were in need of a room for one night only. Now we wish we could have stayed a little longer. We love that this was the only Resort that had its own bridge to cross the street to the beach. The pool is real nice and the bartender made really good margaritas with a very good poor.
The valet team was a magic moment. Thoughtful and considerate, they we're extremely quick with all request.Front desk team was hit and miss. The attendant who checked me in was great. She explained all fees, which is key here because they charge a resort fee here. The attendant who checked in my coworker didn't mention any of it. As far as managing expectations, we were asked if we wanted a room with a view. We said yes but the view we received was of some air conditioners. We attempted to use the pool and we got an hour in and were told that the pool would be closed for the evening for a private event. I'm still confused as to what the resort fee was for!I frequent Starwood properties often but if I find myself in ft lauderdale again, I'll look into the W, which is a few doors down.
First the good, the hotel has a great location and is well kept. The Valets and Bellman are great The rooms are clean and reasonably good size. Now the strange. The hotel has 2 towers and over 400 rooms in 2 the towers. You most check in at the South Tower and there are only 3 stations at the very small reception desk. Then to get to your room in the South Tower you take either an elevator or escalator to the next level and then walk a few hundred yards to the South Tower elevator. If you are in the North Tower, after going to the Mezzanine level you have to walk torough the connecting Bridge about 2 football fields long to reach the NorthTower elevators. Very strange indeed. One more thing, there is only 1 bar with high food in the South Tower and it is outdoors. Very Strange indeed.
As a gold SPG rewards member it saddens me to write this review as I have been a loyal Marriott (and now Starwood) traveler for 15 years. This Westin property is not well maintained and is outdated. While they are renovating the lobby and front bar area (to encourage walking beachfront traffic to drink & dine with them) the rest of the hotel is still well below typical SPG standards and more importantly service as well. I stayed for 4 nights business and pleasure and each day there were examples of shoddy service. Complaints...Housekeeping avoids gym area, took 3 calls to get toilet paper restocked, fresh towels etc. over a 3 hour period. Pool area is just one mass area of chairs, $14 pool cocktails are overpriced for what they are and oh, room keys take multiple attempts to open doors (goes with the general outdated theme) and finally room mattress was nasty! I would avoid this place even if you get a cheap rate unless your a teenager in spring break.
