worst hotel ever

Our 1st time in HI. we stayed 3 nights at this hotel. the staff is incredibly rude, we had dirty plate and glasses for 3 days, the rooms smell and carpet is damp. checkout is at 12pm and we requested 1pm checkout. at 11:59 they had security guard knock on our door and threaten us. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. ever.

Ok, clean, but I'd rather stay in waikiki

Ala Moana is an average hotel in comparison to many others. Basic room is small, lobby is good, nice Starbucks and amenities shop, but the immediate area surrounding the hotel is still sketch. The walk over to the mall around the corner had some interesting smells and characters as you have to walk through the lower levels of the malls parking garage. I would recommend driving. Staff was good, location is central, but I'd rather the hassle of Waikiki hotels than this one. If you have business at the convention hall it's probably most convenient. Overall it's OK, but not great.

One of our favorite hotels on Oahu

Prices are competitive, rooms are clean, staff are friendly, shopping is convenient (Ala Moana, Don Qijote, and Wal-Mart are very close, not to mention the in-house shop for small items, last-minute souvenirs, and snacks) lots of food choices are close. Diamond Head and the southeast coast are just a short drive away, and the airport is too.

Where the Hawaiians recommend to stay

Well, the highest compliment is that local Honolulu residents booked me at this hotel saying that it is central to everything. In a way, they were right. The large shopping mall with high end stores is a parking lot away and there is also a huge food court and maybe the biggest japanese food court in Hawaii within two blocks. Walk up front and there is the beach a short distance away. The room was clean, with coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator for the tourist with leftovers. A balcony adjoining the room gave a panoramic view of Honolulu. Room was medium sized. A pool and gym are in the building. Free wifi. My Honolulu friend recommends the dim sum place on the third floor.

Helpful, clean and comfortable

My mother, myself and my brother came to visit family in Waikiki and stayed at the Ala Moana because they offered a suite of rooms. We were on the 21st floor, mountain facing to catch the wind. The rooms were spacious and clean, beautiful view, lanai off the bedroom, very comfortable pull out couch in the living room. Two microwaves, two fridges, dishwasher and stovetop let us fix meals in the suite or reheat. Ala Moana shopping center just outside the 2nd floor escalator. Highly recommend for a close to waikiki but a little more relaxed stay.
