Ala Moana Hotel
- What's Included
We unfortunately only stayed here for one night after a 10 night stay in Waikiki. We wish we had shortened our Waikiki stay and spent a few extra nights at this hotel. We arrived very early (after checking out of our other hotel) and our room wasn't available, we left our bags and came back a couple of hours later. Although still early we inquired if our room was available, although it wasn't ready the lady on the reception desk moved us to another suite, but on a much higher floor (level 30) so that we could check in.There were 3 of us so we booked the 1 bedroom suite, which was a great size. It had a small kitchen and dining table. I also liked how the bedroom and lounge room (where the sofa bed was) was also separated by a hallway and bathroom, which offers extra privacy. The room was very clean and modern. The bathroom was huge and also had a deep bath, unlike some of the shallow ones in other hotels. The hotel is also an easy stroll to Alan Moana shopping centre with an access point on level 2 which takes you out straight to the carpark area / Macy's entrance. The only cons of the room are:* There is no door on the bedroom, not a huge problem, but there is a sliding door on the lounge room which then closes off from the hallway/bedroom/bathroom. (Not an issue just FYI in case you need additional privacy).* My Mum was on the sofa bed and did mention that it was uncomfortable, might be ok for kids or small adults though.Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel and would consider staying here longer next time rather then Waikiki. There is also a small convenience store and Starbucks at the bottom of the hotel.
We booked through the independent company airpads which owns condos at Ala Moana. We were duped in booking a deluxe suite with an ocean view for 4 adults and what we got was a studio room with enough space for two adults. It had a queen bed and a small half twin size chair pull out. There was a kitchenette, but no cleaning service and ketchup packaged amenities made in china. There was a nice view of kapiolani park and the ala moana parking lot. Luckily we were there for only 3 nights and with two young children, one of which had to sleep on the floor. Our room was terribly maintained. Don't book from Airpads... Book with the hotel directly... never will make that mistake again.
Great location - next to the shopping center with a Starbucks at the lobby. I sytayed at an AIR bnb unit which had a microwave - fridge and a spacious double bed. Was here for the Honolulu Marathon - which is a walking distance to the start and finish.
We always stay here when we come to Honolulu. They have recently added a starbucks to the lobby, which makes it convenient for coffee as you are leaving for your day. This hotel is directly opposite the Ala Moana shopping centre. It is connected via a bridge and you can walk across without too much traffic. Please keep in mind though you do have to walk through the shopping car park to get to the mall. The beach is also in walking distance, as well as everything you could need in side streets. You can also catch the trolley to waikiki for the day if you feel like it. I enjoy staying here as it is close enough to waikiki without too much of the touristy noise and traps. The only issue which you will find in most hotels is the parking. We paid an additional $25 a day to park our rental on site. They have a valet service, but the $25 does not cover tips. We decided that we would rather pay than worry about the car on the street.
We have been staying here for 2 weeks now out of our month long vacation. We rented a condo here which is basically one of their 225 sq ft rooms. This hotel does not have much 'going for it' other than the fact that its connected to the shopping mall. We have come and gone a minimum of 3 times per day and have been greeted once only! Their decorations are definately lacking and they have nothing festive for their guests. The don't seem to care at all! It's not the cleanest place...hallways are barely cleaned and always have garbage over flowing. There was a shooting here as well while we have been here (mall on Christmas day when it was closed) then also heard more shootings. Their fee's are an additional $25 per night for internet and of course pool use and fitness centre up from $15. If I could get a refund on our last 2 weeks here, I would most definately go elsewhere to stay. Although they say it has been updated, its dated, meaning not modern or contemporary. Very noisy and loud! Now that there is a brand new hotel being build right outside our window, we are woken up every morning at 7:30....wish we had known!!! This hotel thrives on airline pilots and attendants...they seem to like to cater to them rather than guests that are staying long term. They seem to ignore us and leave it up to the condo owners. Any issues are swept under the carpet and passed off. I would NOT recommend this hotel to my friends or family or strangers for that matter but I don't think they really care anyway.
