I am an owner who has my unit in the rental pool.

The rooms are lovely with a great ocean view and balcony. However, as an owner, the Rental Pool Management takes over 50% of the revenue. The personnel in the office are downright uncooperative and nasty to the owners as well as over charging for whatever they can think of. It has priced many owners out of their units and caused foreclosures. It is a great place to stay but a terrible investment!

Tip for future Ala Moana Hotel guests

I stayed in an AirBnb unit so won't write about the room and services related to it since each situation seems to be unique. But here is a tip for future hotel guests:If your room is in the Waikiki tower on the 13th floor or below, use the elevator bank for the Kona side of the hotel instead of the one for the Waikiki side of the hotel. It makes almost no difference in time to walk from one of the elevator banks to the other when you consider how many people there are using the Waikiki elevator bank. I almost always had a whole "Kona" elevator (there are three) to myself but never had a "Waikiki" elevator to myself. You need to insert your room's card key to go up in any elevator, and mine worked 100% of the time in the "Kona" elevators, while I (and others) experienced read errors almost a third of the time in the "Waikiki" elevators. You can still access the second floor bridge to the shopping center from the "Kona" elevators, and if you are carrying groceries back from Don Quijote (a nearby supermarket), the Kona side elevator bank is actually closer to the hotel's side entrance.

Very good value for money

We like to walk, so this hotel was good for us. Waikiki Beach was about a 15 min. walk, as was downtown Honolulu. There is a large mall next to the hotel, with lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel was clean and reasonable, the concierge helpful and knowledgeable and desk staff friendly and efficient. There are a few shops in the hotel and a Starbuck's that serves wine in the afternoon. It was a perfect place for us.

Great Spot

I stayed here for 5 days. This very large roomed hotel is older but kept very well. I recommend it. Excellent customer service, good price point & perfect area for walking, eating, etc. I had partial ocean view & very happy with that. Comfortable bed. A must for me. My one negative is there was no 'DO NOT DISTURB SIGN' in my room. Some of us do not wish to have daily maid service & definitely do not wish to be disturbed when I say so. Upon getting to my room, I called for that door sign & was given one promptly. However... I would not even mention this missing option - except upon my allowing maid service, second full day, she removed it from my room! Now that ticked me off. Would I stay again? Yes. Nice people from excellent doormen, bellmen front desk. And I liked the base price & NO added daily resort fee plus free WIFI. WIFI Excellent.

Nice Hotel

Nice hotel next to the Ala Moana Mall. The hotel also has independently owned condo rooms, which I stayed in. It's a hotel room with a small fridge, microwave & coffee maker. The staff has been wonderful! Great customer service. The hotel is walking distance from Ala Moana Beach Park and 30 minute walk to Waikiki. You can also take the bus anywhere for $2.50. Overall very nice, clean place to stay.
