Aqua Aloha Surf Waikiki
- What's Included
Good location, close to everything including the beach shops and restaurants.Avoid the standard rooms, too small and very noisy. We paid for an upgrade to a deluxe and was done promptly. Much more spacious with sofa, balcony with pleasant views to the ranges and the golf course, Also had a sink, microwave refrigerator and facilities to prepare a snack or have take away.Has a bar for drinks and a small pool. The breakfast is rather basic and mainly Asian dishes. The pancakes were fabulous. Also the coffee was very good.Has office to book tours and the staff is very informative and very helpful. There is a canal very close which has an excellent walking/running track,You can park there your car for free but a bit of advice here.Mondays and Fridays is no standing between 8:30 and 11:30. We happened to walk there on a Friday morning and 8:30 exactly three police cars and four or five tow tracks cleaned the parked cars there within minutes. So take care of the time.Overall we had a pleasant stay and recommend this hotel if you are not looking for luxury and if you don't mine to walk a few hundred meters to the beach.
The Aqua Aloha Surf has nice helpful front office staff, a good bar where locals hang out and pleasant, efficient housekeeping staff. The location is great, two blocks from the beach, and all the restaurants and shopping you could want. BUT, and it's a big but, this hotel needs some major updating. The front office was nice enough to upgrade us to a mini suite (at a $10 a day extra charge, of course) when the first room they gave us only had one bed when we requested two, but the room had definitely seen better days. Plaster patches on the wall over wallpaper, cruddy shower tile and a toilet tank cover that was mismatched. And the a/c went out later in the week and was replaced but they really jerry rigged it to get it to fit the space. We had a nice view of the canal from the 11th floor, but the boarded up apt next door was a turn off and so was the creepy, dirty empty lot next door. The pool was tiny, tiny, and the breakfast (included) was not great so we didn't eat there. The resort fee is too much for this hotel, and the parking fee is too high, with limited spaces.I gave the hotel 3 stars for the nice staff and location but I doubt if I would stay here again.
Have stayed in several budget hotels around Waikiki. This is one of the better ones. The room was standard with a small balcony and a view of the Ala Wai Canal and other high-rises. The decor is a little dated but in fairly good condition. It was clean and had a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker. They provide the standard hotel coffee, but we brought our own. The coffee maker was a Mr. Coffee 4 cup that uses Melita #2 filters if you're interested. We were on the 6th floor, so with the door open you could hear the traffic. We kept the AC on all night which was enough to drown out any other noise. The free Wifi worked great in the room. Parking is $25 per day, which is about the same as everyone else. They provide beach towels and chairs, but we didn't use them. There is a tiny pool, which was very clean, but no hot tub. They do add on an "amenity charge" for the free breakfast and beach towels, even if you don't use them. We didn't have the breakfast, so I can't vouch for that. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is 3 blocks from Waikiki Beach with plenty of restaurants and a grocery store nearby. Would probably stay here again.
I traveled to Honolulu with my husband and my sister...the hotel location was great, close to everything that we needed...we didn't like the Asian food for breakfast, should have more option for regular continental breakfast..and also, some of the dishes were dirty with old food stucked on it...but the best part of being there was all the help we had from Kalei, in front desk... he helped us with our accommodation and gave us lots of information about the touristic sites and how to get there...he was awesome...thanks Kalei for your attention...
Less than five minute walk from beach which was wonderful and included an Asian continental breakfast at restaurant in the hotel. Stayed in room 306 and room was smaller than several Asian and European rooms I have stayed in. The room also had peeling paint and some rusted towel fixtures that were in the bathroom. Booked it last minute for one night and if had to, would do again but not for more than one night stays. Wonderful location to shops and beaches but the hotel itself is not more than a one to two star stretch of a hotel.
