Aqua Aloha Surf Waikiki
- What's Included
The purpose of our visit was to see Oahu and not to spend time in our room. So, we didn't mind going super budget in order to save money for the more important things. So, for a bed to sleep on and a shower it was perfect. We attended breakfast only on one morning but unless you are keen on stepping outside the comfort zone and trying an asian style buffet (did not look at all appealing) then you're better off eating elsewhere. The fire alarm was set off one night around midnight and the staff's communication as to what the problem was, was very poor. We were sent back to our rooms with no explanation just hopes and dreams that there was no threat. That was comforting..(not). I asked reception to check with housekeeping for an item we had that seemed to vanish and there was absolutely no follow up. It could very well have been our own fault but a follow up would have been nice.Rooms seemed clean enough.Over all, if you're after budget accom - its suitable but just keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.
A nice standard room. Any higher than 2nd floor and you get a balcony. We were on the 2nd floor and only got a view from the adjacent hotel. Our king size bed cane with the usual closet space, safe, ironing board. Small shower but adequate. The room had a fridge, TV and a PS3. I kid you notYou can rent DVDs and Games at no additional cost. The beach towels are also included, you just collect them from front desk and swap them for the cards they give you when checking in. You can take them anywhere you like. Just not home. Breakfast is a little different than I expected. Scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs with toast, coffee and cereal were available along with Chinese meals. Veg, noodles, dumplings and rice. There is a coin operated laundry downstairs in the basement. Quarters are needed and are available at the front desk which is where the soap is and $1.25 for the wash and the same for the drying. Each cycle is around 40mins. If you are not around when the cycle finishes be prepared to find your clothes on the side. The only thing that I was a little shocked was the price of the cleaning tax. $18 a night is expensive. The hotel is literally 6mins from Waikiki Beach and 8mins to the main shopping area. Tesla, Apple, Dior, Rolex and other high end shops adorn the streets. It gets very busy from 8pmDon’t forget you are in Waikiki and eating out can be expensive depending where you go. The usual fast food restaurants are average price for cheap eats.
Good value hotel, about 3 blocks from the beach, my room had a view of the water and mountains and canal on the other side.Large rooms, hotel is a little dated but it's clean and comfortable, friendly staff, there is a pool but I never used it, they have a laundry in the basement, just ask reception for the code, they can also give you detergent for $1 and change for quarters to use. There's plenty of stores nearby to stock up, ABC and Food Pantry are just around the corner, there is also a stop for The Bus, which can take you anywhere on Oahu at the end of the street, good for a visit to Ala Moana shopping mall and Diamond head.
We have visited this lovely island several times and usually stay along in Nahua. Unable to book it this year we decided to choose this hotel as we know the area and that it's 10 minutes walk from the beach and central to all amenities in Waikki. We arrived at 10.30pm after traveling 25 hours to a warm reception from the receptionist and an ungrade as we were staying 20 nights. The lobby was very welcoming and nicely decorated. Our room was freshly decorated and very clean. Our lay/balcony had lovely sea views and city view as we were 15 floors up. During our stay I found the staff busy and very pleasant maintaining the apartments and always happy to help. You can borrow towels/chairs/ swimming equipment from reception which was a great bonus. We were able to rent out films for free if we decided to have a night in. The managers special was his own cocktail and lovely Hawaiian music, very informal which we liked. The laundry service was a blessing as we were staying so long, $2.25 for a was and a dollar to dry,you share the two machines with the residents so up early is advisable. My only three complaints, two of which the hotel can do nothing about is that the road is very noisy,it's a two way road and you also have the traffic along the canal, even up at 15 floors we could hear everything. The hotel across the road has a bar that's open till 3am and as there are no window you can hear everything. Not music, just very load talking! The last one is the breakfast, it's different. A selection of pancakes/ bread/cakes/ spiced onions/fried rice/chow mien/ porridge. I'm a boring eater so toast and porridge suited me for a while but a bit of rotation would be good and also food labelled as I'm a vegetarian and had no idea what some of the food was. Toward the end of the holiday we tended to eat out for breakfast, maybe because we had stayed so long it just got boring and if we went down at 8.30 it seemed to be the leftovers and the stale bread not replenished etc!! Over all a great stay and hope to return next year.
No frills. A get what you pay for kinda place. Staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Breakfast was kind of Asian inspired. The eggs were terrible so we stuck to the staples. Pancakes, corn and rice. You can get cheap drinks at the hotel bar and talk to a lot of locals. Bartender very friendly.
