Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel
- What's Included
Spent 2 days at this hotel. Upon check in we were given a free upgraded room and a free gift basket was waiting for us in the room. Booked Pearl Harbor tour at through the hotel for convenience. Everyone was very nice and the room was extremely clean with a great view overlooking Waikiki beach.
My friend and I were here in November 2016. I had stayed at the hotel next door during my previous visit, and since I wouldn't be returning there, I decided to try Aston Waikiki beach. It is so conveniently close to the ocean, all the shopping and Waikiki life. The lobby is on the 2nd floor, I had made a reservation with a payment to partial ocean view, non smoking room and a request the room to be away from the elevators. There were 3 people working at the front desk and I belive it was David who assisted us to check in and he confirmed my request for a room away from the elevators. We got checked in and took the most confusing yet convenient elevator to our room. The room was literally 7 steps away from the elevator. We got in and all we saw was the next hotel. You had to reach out and peek over to the right to see the ocean at a distance. What a disappointment. We made a call back to the front desk saying that this was unacceptable, as I had requested a room away from the elevator and it is exactly what they gave us. We closed the balcony door to leave the room and all you can hear is wind whistling. No way is anyone able to sleep in a room like that! So the gal at the front desk had prepared the second room for us and we got the keys exchanged and continued to the confusing elevators. Now this room was like an ashtray, it reeked of cigarettes. I had to sign a non smoking waiver threatening fees for smoking in the room, no way were we going to stay here and get second hand smoking cancer and fines for smoking which we didn't do. November in Hawaii is a slow season, the hotel was no where near full, I didn't understand why they had to play this kind of a game with us. Upon returning to the front desk for the 3rd time, I wanted someone competent to assist us. This time I believe it was a supervisor Michelle, who attempted to show us where the available rooms were at. She suggested a room with a nicer view but again it was next to the elevators. Finally she got an approval to get us into a room, not facing the ocean but with an amazing view to the beach. The rooms are renovated but you can see it is a old building, the balcony doors, bathroom tiles and paint were old, as was the faucet and the shower. Supervisor Michelle called to check in if everything was ok with this room, which was a nice gesture. We stayed for two nights, the bar had a happy hour special for every day. Pool was small and mostly in the shade all day long, but it was clean. The Wolfgang Pucks restaurant had decent breakfast and lunch. And of course there are ABC stores in every corner.Would I stay here again? Most likely not. But it is a good hotel for someone on a budget.
First time we stayed at the Aston. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Onsite restaurants had great food and service. Beautiful view of the Ocean from our hotel patio. We will definitely be back,
The hotel's location could not be any more convenient. There is easy access to the beach and to all of the exciting tourist attractions, shopping, and dining. The key card elevator procedure was a little confusing at first. The front desk did not explain how it worked. The rooms were comfortable but a little small. The bathroom is tiny and needed some cosmetic improvements such as paint, tile, etc. The bed was fairly comfortable, a bit on the firm side. However, the pillows were pretty bad. The staff was friendly, except the valet staff wasn't all that friendly. One time it was obvious two men were fighting over who would not go get our car, and once we called 30 minutes ahead, and they didn't have our car out. It was not busy and we were delayed on our way to the airport because of it. The resort fee is pretty ridiculous, but most hotels charge it. It's still a huge waste, in my opinion. Overall, it's a nice place to stay, and I would stay here again. You can find faults most anywhere.
Despite it being the busiest time of year just before hallowe'en, we enjoyed the accomodation after they moved us to a room with a larger balcony and street beach view. We are not used to how the hotels add a service charge to the already charged room cost but I guess when in Rome you do what the romans do, as the saying goes.
