Nice place, helpful activities desk

This hotel, and Oahu in general, suffered from our having been to Maui first. Everything here was very good. We got upgraded at check-in (after having told them on our reservation that it was our anniversary) and the room had a partial ocean view. The activities desk helped us put together a last-minute excursion to Sea Life Park. Unfortunately, the pool was only open until 9:00 and evenings would often find people giving their kids swimming lessons in the pool. I'm all in favor of kids learning how to swim but in a hotel pool with other guests isn't appropriate. The hotel had rules for the pool (no jumping or diving) but they were enforced like a UN resolution ("stop or we'll tell you to stop again").None of this is really the hotel's fault, it's actually mine for expecting that people in 2017 would recognize that other people exist and act accordingly. If we'd gone to Oahu first, I'd have found little to complain about but, because we were on Maui first, much of Oahu suffered in comparison. If you want to be in Waikiki, this is a great place to stay.

Great stay on Waikiki Beach

We just stayed at this hotel for three nights. The location can't be beat. Their service can't be beat! We enjoyed the swim bag with sunscreen gift when we arrived, and the staff gave us a picture frame as we were celebrating our anniversary. Tiki's restaurant (on site) was also great. We would recommend this hotel to any couple wanting to stay at a fun place for a reasonable price.

A Well maintained Classic! Excellent location - An Original Waikiki Beach Feel !

ASTON Waikiki is not marketing itself as upmarket. It marketed perfectly, as what it really is, a famous old beach hotel in one of the best locations in Waikiki. I found it overall clean, good housekeeping & they are working hard from my observations. If you are dissatisfied with room cleanliness upon arrival all you would have to do is let the friendly staff know and it would be fixed pretty quickly ! So don't ruin you holiday with complaints or a demeanour of dissatisfaction, be proactive and just "Say something" but be friendly will be the best approach. The pool deck area was well appointed and many guests enjoying themselves. Tiki bar and grill is big was lively and busy, right by the pool... Down on ground level is another eatery well priced, Wolfgangpuck express Delicious breakfast pizza and pasta. The free Aston gift bag was filled with sensible items I needed. Quality sunscreen after sun moisturizer lip balm in a reusable bag perfect for picking up some groceries. This was well thought out & saved me 30 or more USD.The lift card swipe allocating system kept things moving. Front desk is swift with super friendly staff. I had the pleasure of negotiating with Sean (Who quickly solved a lack of planning on my part) & Stephen excellent competent.Room amenities were good. Coffee maker with pods, a PlayStation 3 for games and DVDs, Excellent WIFI Throughout, & a decent fitness centre ! The beauty of ASTON is it can be your beachside home, you can leave all your stuff and valuables in the room and put on your swimwear, grab a towel, walkout cross over the road and get straight into the Ocean & make a quick retreat when you've had enough sun.Remember you have the power to have a great time ! or the Alternatives ! I always have a great time and Aston was a excellent facilitator. It is the no.1 location at the diamond head end of Waikiki... Beach front.Good luck with the upcoming renovation !

Great hotel and friendly staff

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2017. We stayed on the 15th floor with a partial ocean view room. It may a small well have been full ocean view as we had a beautiful view of Waikiki beach. Check I now took longer than usual but worth it a short the room was spectacular. I enjoyed my morning coffee on the balcony every morning before most of Waikiki woke up. The Keurig machine worked great and it was replenished daily like clockwork for us. Even when I only use Sec new sugar from the packet, the room attendant added another packet so I wouldn't run out. What really stood out is in the day we checked out, although they didn't clean our room, they restocked our coffee whichever was much appreciated. Not knowing they would come in, I had my electronics laying out, an envelope with a significant amount of cash laying out. Nothing was touched! I am truly amazed by the professionalism and friendliness of the staff Fromm the check in staff, to the wonderful pool attendants, to the room attendants, to the valet Parkers. There was one security guard who patrolled the pool constantly who was a bit of a stickler and didn't allow jumping onto the pool, I read the rules posted by the pool and had my kids (5,7 years old read them). However nowhere did it state no jumping in the pool. As you can imagine, it's quite difficult to explain to young children why this isn't allowed. What is even harder is that newcomers to the pool would inevitably jump in, prompting my kids to ask why those people (adults and kids both) were allowed to do so. From my days lounging by the pool, this one guard was the only one who reinforced that "rule", no one else did. So if he wasn't around, the no jumping "rule" was never reinforced which to a 5 and 7 year old is unexplainable. There were written rules of no outside food allowed which wasn't reinforced, no floats in the pool was half reinforced as some kids had arm floating which were allowed but larger donut floats were not. All in all, no big deal except for that one security guard who's name I could never seem to catch. If you are asking why We spent so much time at the pool, it's because during two days, Waikiki beach has jellyfish and my kids go to stung and refused to go back for a few days. The beds were comfortable and the elevator system was smart and you have to use your room key card to Push your floor number before a specific elevator was assigned to you. This helped min crowding in the elevators and helped them run faster. This hotel is located toward the end of Waikiki beach whichever isn't a big deal since the entire strip is so walkable. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Wonderful hotel and we would definitely return.

Great location but everything else is pretty average

Room was average, pretty noisy from the hotel bar (the set included a lot of the same songs 2 nights in a row!) and the air con smelled like chlorine. Floatation devices were not allowed in the pool so all of the kids who didn't have life jackets stayed in the same 3m square area in the shallow end. Ridic. We also felt that they tried to con us a bit by offering us an upgrade when we checked in, then saying the upgraded room was an extra $45 per night for the roll away bed for our daughter. I said no way and they upgraded us anyway saying they'd get someone to put a bed in there for free. When we went straight to the room it already had the roll away bed in it. Room was clean but tired, fridge was not at all cold, coffee awful don't bother with it. I wouldn't stay here again.
