Aston Waikiki Sunset
- What's Included
A good 3 star resort, not too far from the beach. Rooms have separate bedrooms and full kitchens.
Stayed a Aston Sunset Waikiki for a week with family of 6. Travel agent requested seperate beds for 3 x 20 yr boys and daughter so ended up 2 rooms. So $8000 odd AUD- so it's Xmas. Arrived for check in- not seperate beds so why would you take our booking? If this was stipulated, meet with an abrupt guy behind counter told us we want a rollaway $30/ night extra we must comedown and get from reception . Woke next morning with bites over us, holes in blinds from moths. A/C sounded like a jet engine , extra charges for safe, internet, daily paper, tea and coffee $25.00 + tax/room per nightCarpet very old, needs paint job , cleaners were sweet but can only do so much. Read managers responses from past Tripadvisors just copy and paste to every bad review, no action to fix anything. Poorly presented were booked in for 1 night after cruise so gave them 7 days notice to cancel rooms as we would not be back and refuse to refund 2 rooms booked. Check out a section of blinds photo below, felt ripped off and disappointed would not come back pay extra elsewhere my advise.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom with kitchen over christmas with an ocean view and view of Diamond head from the balcony; it was awesome! Yes the hallways are dated but the unit itself was spotless and clean! We were on the 28th floor with fantastic morning views - they had all the supplies for the kitchen (dish soap, paper towel etc...) . I had brought my own salt/pepper and some basic spices because there were none in the kitchen (it was spotless clean:) There wasn't a dishwasher but that was fine! Really great layout for our family of 5. The sleeper sofa was really comfortable too. Housekeeping was very prompt and accomodating. And there is a laundry on every floor (you can get quarters from the front desk). Location was a couple of blocks from Waikiki and Queens beach (both great for beginner surfing lessons which you can arrange right from the beach). I highly recommend Aston Waikiki Sunset for a family that wants to stay in Waikiki and has a budget:)
Lets start with the good things about this hotel, and then go from there.- Great location, walking distance to the beach, places to eat and shops.- The view, we had a 1 BR ocean view room and it was just that, beautiful!- I love having a full kitchen on while on vacation, this had just that. Pretty much just the very basic supplies but it did in fact have that.- A (pay for) washer and dryer on each floor, its always a bonus.Ok, lets go to the not so good..- The carpet needs to be ripped out, it was just gross!- The shower curtain had a lot of visible mold!- The house keeper didn't service our room, not sure why, but she didn't. I needed fresh towels (my husband was in the shower) I called and nicely asked for some, never heard back, waited about another 10 min and called again. andddddd she told me to come down and get them! That did not sit well with me. - Parking is $20 a day- The hall ways again, carpet is gross, and almost creepy. We won't be back.
The most important place in the hotel is your room. Our room was very nice. Décor was up to date, and we were very satisfied with it. Having the living space of a condo was important to us, we were in a one bedroom condo for four people. Two of us in the bedroom and two on the sofa sleeper. Living room and kitchen all were nice. Good balcony with views to the ocean. The lobby itself and the hallways are not as nice. But you only walk through those and the room itself was very good. Only complaint was the occasional long wait for an elevator. Location was excellent, easy walking distance to Waikiki attractions. The pool is mostly in the shade of the building, but we went to the beach so didn't care about that. Loved having a laundry right on our floor. Prices very reasonable for a Christmas time period.
The views from the room were simply fantastic. Location was great and only a short walk to the beach of Waikiki. The tour concierge was extremely helpful and put us on to a couple of great excursions and also a brief explanation of local must dos.The room was comfortable but I do believe that the rooms are a little run down and could do with a makeover, but all in all comfort was great.
