Aston Waikiki Sunset
- What's Included
A good 3 star resort, not too far from the beach. Rooms have separate bedrooms and full kitchens.
The unit we stayed at was Number 2001 on the 20th floor. It was in overall disrepair. Smelled of mold and had mold. Urine smell on chairs and couch. Our lock did not work for the balcony. Frig is from the 70's and had to keep an pot full of ice in frig to keep food cold. We took the broken boogie boards to management along with the worn out pot with no Teflon left.
When walking into the Aston it showed its age and was a little run down, but when we arrived in the room that was disappointing. Sadly very tired it had a horrible smell like mould which we gather came from the air con. The curtains had holes and walls dirty and it was just ok. The views though were fantastic it was like you were touching Diamond Head and you could see the ocean which was the best bit about the room. We did complain about the smell and asked if we could get some candles but told no, we all started to get headaches so only were in the rooms to basically to sleep but that is not a bad thing when in Hawaii. Its a fixer upper for sure Also the pool it is in the wrong place because the building puts the pool in the shade most of the day which is a shame
This is the perfect hotel if you want all the amenities of home. With full kitchen & spacious living area our 1 bedroom apartment was amazing. Its so close to the beach, zoo, aquarium & a short stroll to shops & restaurants. The staff are so friendly & helpful. And the hotel is right on the busline for popular destinations. I love this place & we are returning customers who are very happy to recommend this hotel to everyone!
The lady on arrival needs to put a smile on her face when tourists are booking- in ( not good for business I don't think). We arrived early and knew this but, were told bluntly come back at 3. The apartment itself was dowdy, boring, smelt of a wet dog odour and needed a major facelift (photos can be deceiving on the internet). The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was a decent size with shower over the bath (which I am not a fan of). Lounge suite was hard and uncomfortable with only one other chair. The balcony was ok but the room faced onto the pool which toward evening was noisy. Pool area was tiny. On each floor there was one washing machine and one dryer which was very handy. The rooms had a big gap under the entrance door - not sure for what reason but we had to put a towel there at night time? The room was only just serviced daily. You could go to housekeeping and get a towel for the beach. On level 5 was a mini-market which sold chips, milk, drinks, and general food. We purchased nothing here as it was so expensive. Just down the road was an ABC store which stocked anything that you wanted and cheaper. In the entrance foyer was a DVD machine - where you could get movies for your stay. Hotel was only a 5min walk to Waikiki beach and was off the main strip. Restaurants were ok nearby, but, toward the other end of town was a better selection of places to eat. We had paid all of accommodation charges, resort fees and taxes etc before leaving Australia and were not impressed with being slugged an additional MANDATORY nightly fee of $20US plus tax per night which was called the NEW amenity Fee Program. (This so called fee was to cover wifi, coffee/tea, newspaper, in room-safe and the DVD machine). mmm this to me is what a good hotel provides anyway and since when does a safe require a fee to be paid? never heard of this before. Would I stay at this hotel again - absolutely no way known. A smile costs nothing.
We were upgraded to a one bedroom suite on the 36th floor with spectacular views. The check in process was easy, we were able to check in early which was great. The room had a kitchen which was equipped with everything apart from a dishwasher. Coin operated washer and dryers are available on each floor. Every guest gets free access to a dvd/game machine to use in the rooms, which the kids enjoyed. The hotel is 1 block back from the beach, near the sheltered pool at the beach, which my daughter, 5, enjoyed. The waves were too scary for her at the other parts of the beach
