Aston Waikiki Sunset
- What's Included
A good 3 star resort, not too far from the beach. Rooms have separate bedrooms and full kitchens.
Once again we have stayed at the Aston Waikiki Sunset we booked through an Agent direct when we arrived the room was spotless cannot fault the apartment at all but the single bed perhaps has seen its day as it was very uncomfortable but the Queen bed was amazing they have a beautiful pool there with lots of lounges around it, also they have a tennis court and BBQ area, it is one block from the famous Waikiki beach but away from the nightlife so very quiet at night it takes 6 minutes to walk to the Cheese Cake Factory in the middle of Waikiki
The price was reasonable and we could easily fit four. However, the hotel was old, we had a cockroach in the room so everyone slept with the lights on, the disposal in the sink smelled badly, and the bathroom light didn't work (staff fixed it when we brought it to there attention). It's also across the street from some slum apartments. We did have a beautiful view of Diamond Head and they brought us complimentary chocolate macadamia nuts. The staff were very nice so I gave it a 3 instead of a 2.
A good price with a small kitchen that does the job. Only a couple of blocks away from the beach. The staff were all very friendly. We had a nice view from the 15th floor. The building is older and the rooms could use a good deep cleaning of the walls, carpets and corners. The fold out couch in the living room was unbearable and should be replaced. The beds in the bedroom were okay. There was a weird, chemical smell that hit you when you first opened the door and would come and go.It's a budget hotel and you get what you paid for. It did the job for our family.
My mom and I stayed at the Waikiki Sunset over the labor day weekend and had a great time. We had a one-bedroom suite with a full kitchen. The room was clean and very spacious. The kitchen had a microwave, full refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster, rice cooker, coffee maker, pots and pans, plates and utensils and many of the kitchen accessories needed to cook a meal. There is a mini-mart on the 5th floor that sells drinks, food, paper utensils and other items that you may have forgotten at home. There are no restaurants in the hotel but the hotels nearby do.The hotel itself is one block from Kuhio Avenue which was great since you don't hear a lot of the traffic and noise from Kuhio Avenue. So it's about a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. You can rent boards and other beach gear from the mini mart for the day. There were ample parking and never had a problem finding parking. Additional amenities include a pool, sauna, tennis court and a gas grill. We didn't use any of these amenities as we didn't have time and the time I wanted to use the pool, it looked like there was a party scheduled and the pool was full. For smokers, the entire property does not allow smoking, so you will need to exit the hotel to smoke outside. The only thing that was of concern is that the elevators were really slow. I noticed on a few occasions where I would press the up button and not one of the four elevators was sent down and it took a few seconds before I finally saw one of the elevators descending. Being that there are 37 floors, during check in/check out time and after dinner time, you can expect to wait a while for the elevator and/or ride in an elevator full of people. On one occasion I waited for nearly 8 minutes for the elevator. But I would not let this be a deal breaker for me as I feel the condition and amenities of the room outweigh the elevator situation.Overall it was a great stay and I would stay at this hotel in the future.
The staff there are excellent. When checking into out condo, we found it to smell badly. They moved us to another condo right away. It's an old building that needs updating (carpeting, furniture, etc). Our bathroom window had paper stuffed into it I imagine to keep the wind and rain out. Again the staff was so friendly and helpful. But I probably wouldn't stay here again.
