Aston Waikiki Sunset
- What's Included
A good 3 star resort, not too far from the beach. Rooms have separate bedrooms and full kitchens.
We rented the mountain view penthouse and got a great rate with the Black Friday deal. Parking was an additional $20 per night and there was an additional $20 "amenity" fee, which included WiFi, a movie rental card and a PS 3 console. Our room was awesome-a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with a nice living room, full kitchen, and washer and dryer, and plenty of closet space. The master bedroom had a Queen or King bed (don't recall), while the second bedroom had 2 twin beds. There was also a sofa with a queen pullout sofa. The space was perfect for our family of 3 adults and 2 teen boys. Having the kitchen was very convenient and it also saved us money, as meals are quite expensive in the area. Our accommodations were clean and nicely appointed with a subdued island themed decor. We enjoyed the toiletries, especially the exfoliating bath soap.We also enjoyed the pool- which was 5-feet. The pool area had several gas BBQs, although we didn't use them. Staff were friendly and helpful. While we loved our penthouse, the reason I can only rate the hotel is that the common areas are suffering from dire neglect. Carpets in the hall ways and elevators were dingy and worn, and the walls and exterior definitely need paint. A good cleaning, new carpets, a fresh coat of paint and maybe a cheerful awning and some topiaries would really make this diamond in the rough a standout.
We stayed here for four nights. As soon as we arrived to staff were friendly and welcoming. Upon reaching our 2 bedroom apartment we were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and the views.During our trip here I had left my iPad on the plane and the Concierge was only too happy to assist in its recovery. The apartment consisted of a large lounge, dining and full kitchen area. There were 2 large bedrooms, one with a second TV, and a shared bathroom with a shower and tub.The views were fabulous and afforded us the landscape of Diamond Head, the distant hills and the Waikiki Beach. We were located 3 blocks back from Waikiki Beach at the Zoo end of the district. This was no problem as all services were easily available, including City Bus and Waikiki trolleys. The air-conditioning worked well and the rooms were quiet and which provided for a good night's sleep. The hotel also incorporated a mini-mart, swimming pool, tennis courts, TV lounge and reading area. If you couldn't get what you wanted at the mini-mart then an ABC store was just about a 5 minute walk away.As for our daily tours, the tour-desk people were just so lovely and friendly, they arranged all we asked for and advised the cheapest options. The only real negative item I have, without being picky, is that the hotel is becoming dated and I would really give this a 3.5 Stars.Would I revisit? Yes.
My main impression of this hotel was formed very quickly, which was that it is run-down and dirty. Even the lounges in the foyer (first impressions are very important) had threads all coming off them and were filthy. This was the same with all the furniture that we came across. The carpets, too, desperately need a clean. The top of our fridge, which was fairly low and I could see just standing there, still had the previous occupant's bits of rice and dirt sitting on it. When I mentioned this to one of the hotel staff, they didn't apologise or anything... they probably should've sent someone up immediately to wipe it over, imho. The staff was a bit of a mix-up... some really friendly (especially the house-keeping staff) and others (such as the security guard) looked like they really didn't want to be there. Having said all this, I have to say that this hotel has a fabulous location, though, and a beautiful pool! The facilities in the room were also quite good. We loved looking our at the mountains and at our partial ocean view.
For a group of 4 ladies out to shop, this was the perfect happy medium for accommodation. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment with an ocean view, the amenities were tidy and kitchen well equipped. An unexpected bonus was that our apartment was overlooking the Honolulu zoo, waking up to see elephants and listen to all the animals early morning and night.Although located towards the end of the shopping strip, there are plenty of taxis, trolleys and buses in short walking distance to take you anywhere. The beach only a couple of blocks away. It's certainly not the prettiest of hotels, but has everything you need.
A nice friendly location only 200m from Waikiki beach, bars, shops, eateries. The rooms are quite dated & rooms not very big but are fine for what we needed to put head down. Super quick free wifi, lots of TVs channels and cooking facilities. Great pool area(level 6)with tennis court & BBQ area with 3 BBQ's and tables & seating. There is a Mini mart(level 5) which sells lots of things including grocery items, alcohol & frozen items. The reception staff are extremely helpful & we got into 3/5rooms at 8:30-9am after a 9.5 hour flight which was appreciated. Taxi at front door all the time & buses running all the time nearby. Unfortunately we had an aircon problem & had to change rooms day 4 but they were very helpful & apologetic & helped with the moving process. Nothing too much trouble a nice venue.
