Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach
- What's Included
Having stayed in Waikiki many times before for work and on holiday, I wanted more of a home base to use while hitting up all my favorite spots in Oahu. Hyatt Place was the perfect choice! It's great for those who like me are resigned to staying in tourist-filled Waikiki when visiting the island but would prefer something a bit away from the madness. There is no resort fee and valet parking is available for a reasonable price. Breakfast is included in the cost and has both hot and cold options and plenty of coffee! There's a smallish pool near the breakfast area as well as a gym which admittedly I didn't use but offered the standard cardio machines and weights. The room itself was lovely and was big enough to feel that there was a bed/sleeping area as well as a comfortable living space with a couch and desk and chair. I also really like that the toilet/shower and sink area is separated by a door and I imagine that it's more convenient if you are staying with someone. Being a Hyatt rewards discoverist member my room was upgraded and I also received a free bottle of water daily. This all being said, it's the service at this Hyatt as well as all the other Hyatts that I have stayed at that keep me coming back. From a lovely welcome note in my room from the general manager to the folks at check-in to the car valets everyone was so warm and welcoming! There's a lot of hotel choices in Waikiki but it's the Hyatt employees that will keep me coming back to their properties. Tip: Those looking for more of an all inclusive resort with direct access to the beach should look to the Hyatt Regency a couple of blocks away!
This hotel is not right on the Waikiki beach, just a couple of blocks from the beach. It is less pricey than Hyatt Regency Waikiki , and also includes breakfast. The service was excellent. Right from the check in to our departure, everybody took great care of us. The team of Chris, Angeline, Lei, Kim, Jay and others was always smiling and very helpful. We had a lunch also in the hotel. The food and service were very good. We will recommend this hotel to anyone.
We had booked an ocean view room and was first given room #1212 (Or one close to that). This should be considered a partial ocean view room (there were options for this selection). This room was smaller than it appeared in pictures when I booked and also the view was a little ocean and a lot of buildings. It would have been nice to have had a more truer idea of what we were getting ourselves into because, we were there for our honeymoon. That is the one time you want things to be as perfect as possible. I spoke with someone at the front desk about my concerns and she nicely switched us to another room but, it couldn't be done until the next day. Which we were okay with as long as we got a better view. We were switched to room 1205 and this one did have a better view but, still not a full ocean view room. We were advised that since this hotel was just off the ocean front, they don't have full ocean view rooms but, this wouldn't be something you knew unless you were local or unless they told you in their descriptions. I recommend you replace 'ocean view' in your titles with 'partial ocean view', so that people get what is marketed. The hotel itself is very nice however, the rooftop/pool/breakfast area (floor 3) was lacking. On our first night there we went up to the pool to check it out and the deck area was a disaster. The furniture was all out of place and cushions were off. It was dirty and was not at all like the pictures. Since they have breakfast up there, my assumption is after breakfast things just don't get cleaned up or put back together as far as the patio furniture. The breakfast was good, it is a nice selection. The staff was excellent. All were very polite and tried their best to accommodate us with what they have. We ordered food from the hotel one night and it was okay. Maybe just a little pricey. I think a flat bread was around $12 and it was not very big and seemed as if it was cooked from a box. We were unaware that valet parking was the only option for parking and that it was $32 a day. That seems a bit extreme. Especially since a few times we would wait around 10 minutes to get our car because, there would only be 1 or 2 people working valet and a lot of people down there to pick up or drop off their cars. For the times the valet was not busy, it worked fine and was quick and easy. On our last day there, we planned to sleep in a little because, we had late night flights that night. We were woken up by the fire alarm going off. We made it down 12 flights of stairs to find out it was a false alarm. Don't get me wrong, we are better safe than sorry but, no one apologized. They just said it was a false alarm and that everyone could go back to what they were doing. People started piling onto elevators and just before we were to get on one, an elevator got stuck and was stuck with people in it for quite a while. So in fear of getting stuck in an elevator we walked up to the third floor to eat breakfast, where there were tons of people due to everyone being woken up. We had to wait in a long line for food and even utensils. It was just a cruddy way to end our stay. Overall we did have a great time in Hawaii on our honeymoon but, there were definitely things the hotel could have done differently to make our stay what we anticipated it to be.
We really enjoyed staying in your hotel. The breakfast was really good. We have never had a continental breakfast like this before. We will stay with you again. The next time we stay we will upgrade to an ocean view. The staff was very friendly and were right on top of things.
I booked a three night stay using an award night and points for the other two nights I was upgraded to a high floor room with a beautiful room of the mountains due to my Discoverist status, and received two free water bottles every day. The room was large and comfortable with a couch and a really nice TV and balcony, a great place to rest when dealing with jet lag coming from the east coast! The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Front desk staff were great, I was given a lot of good advice as well as a steady supply of beach towels! Valet staff was wonderful too, service was quick and efficient. Breakfast was delicious, great variety and I liked that there was a tray in the room to bring breakfast up to your room if you preferred. I loved the location on Waikiki beach, so easy to step out with a towel and lay near the water. So many wonderful shops and restaurants within a few blocks. Really fantastic stay, great service and location. Would definitely recommend!
