Ohana Waikiki West
- What's Included
Our OpinionA fairly basic hotel but an excellent location right across from the International Market. Kitchenettes are available in some rooms.
A Canadian favourite, this hotel is located across from the International Market Place, near a variety of dining and shopping, 2 blocks from the beach.
Location: Near Waikiki Beach. 30-minute drive from Honolulu International Airport.
Neat tidy and close to everything. Close enough to the beach but far enough to avoid the beach bustle . Little dated ( more like a lot) but still pleasant. Small landing two people are a squeeze, remember where you are. You' re not there to stay in your room
I wasn't quite sure how much I'd like Waikiki as where I live, some people have said it's not that different and a bit unmaintained and run down.Well. I LOVE it! It is NOT run down or unmaintained at all. There are so many really nice and classy shops, a heap of restaurants of varying prices and cuisines, and the beach and park areas with umbrellas, calm and slightly surfy areas, luaus, markets and such a laid back, relaxed but stimulating vibe full of friendly people...plus all the great places further afield in Honolulu and on the various shores of beautiful Oahu. And this particular hotel is in an excellent location. Perfect I think. It's a block back from the beach and main street that runs along it. It's immediately surrounded by heaps of restaurants and shops, and a 2 minute stroll to Kuhio Park and a wonderful part of Waikiki beach. Our first night, we enjoyed the free thrice weekly luau there and it was just wonderful watching the sun go down surrounded by glowing fire torches, amazing and joyous dancers and musicians and the waves behind you. There are a heap of ABC convenience stores all around this part of Waikiki and the hotel is also just around the corner from the beautiful International Market Place. When we arrived at the hotel at 7am after getting off a 9 hour flight of no sleep, a friendly bell staff member directed us upstairs in the elevator after offering assistance with our bags. I was really happy to see the lobby was big, spacious and pretty. There was a bit of a line to check in / out but when I got to the counter, I was SO glad that my room was ready early (check in is technically 3pm) and when we entered the room, I smiled big as the room was as I had hoped. Big, spacious, blissfully comfy king bed, separate couch, big desk, 2 sliding door full length mirrorred robes, a separate mini kitchen area, a huge TV and a nice bathroom with walk-in shower. Lots of mirrors and lamps, and warm, inviting decor. Not the type of cold, modern minimalist hotel room I dislike. The balcony is small but oh my goodness, the VIEW. I had booked and paid for a standard Waikiki view room. I got this really nice room with views to the left of the mountains, views straight ahead of Waikiki (amazing at night with all the lights) and also a bit of Diamond Head, and views to the right of the beach and ocean. Amazing.Everything was so comfortable. Sleeping was easy. The temperature was good with easy to use air conditioning. HEAPS of storage and seating / surfaces. Really nice shower with good hot water and strong pressure. The elevators were pretty much always quick, even when busy. There were always newspapers available in the lobby as well as a tour desk that helped us quite a bit with questions. The bell desk below was also really helpful and arranged us a shuttle with no issues. A shout out to Jettson for being so nice! Our room was always made up spotlessly and we got extra coffees, teas and new soaps even when we didn't need it. They provide free beach towels too, which we used twice, for both Hanuama Bay and Waikiki Beach.I am writing this before bed on our last night and am sad to leave this place. We will definitely be back. (Update - check out the next day was effortless and friendly.)Ohana means family in Hawaiian, and I really feel like Hawaii as a whole place feels like a second home to me already. We stayed for 4 days. Room 1215. I highly recommend this room and this excellent hotel.
Nice large room on 17th floor. Quick registration and into room. Clean and bright and well Serviced. Good coffee shop in lobby, with espesso. (A good Capacino is hard to find.) The lobby is on the second floor.
This hotel is old fashioned,Old yes, however ,large rooms and Lanai/Balcony to most.Escalators from ground level to lobby or you can access the lifts via the laneway next to bellhops stand. We left this hotel three weeks ago and they were still renovating the ground floor front area.We could not hear any noise from this remodelling work in our room. The cleaning staff on our floor,4th floor were lovely ,did a great job and were very polite. The staff were always happy and polite and very helpful ,The hotel was neat and clean and tidy. The hotels location was great for us,opposite a small park,we often had a plate lunch there, also opposite an ABC store, and just a bit further The Food Pantry, which we purchased our treats and some food and drinks. Also the hotel is next door to the International Market Place. And a very short walk to the beach etc.We stayed here for three weeks and will be coming back again ,we loved the room ,staff and location.
We stayed in this hotel for 11 nights . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . We loved this neighborhood proximity to Waikiki beach and mountain head . No complaints with hotel at all. We were 15 family and friends and we all had fantastic time here.
