Outrigger Reef on the Beach
- What's Included
My first trip to Hawaii, and I don't think it could have been better anywhere else like it was at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort! The entire staff was friendly, attentive, and always making sure everything was to our liking. Check in was quick and efficient, our room clean with everything we expected/needed, view from the balcony enough of an ocean view that we were happy. The swimming pool and hot tubs were clean, the right temps, and well maintained. We didn't use the laundry or fitness center, but they appeared to be sufficient on a quick tour I took. The beach to the ocean was right outside the back, and we saw sea turtles everyday there. There are several shops with some great local artworks/designs and with some friendly bartering, priced right! One of the restaurants was being renovated, but that was fine because we like to venture out and try different things. The one that was open was excellent offering a variety of choices at appropriate prices. We requested a room upgrade when we checked in and was granted a day earlier than we expected! (We were very happy with our original room, but had a little extra cash and thought this would be nice)... WOW...what an understatement! We upgraded to a suite which had a separate bedroom, bathroom, and living area with dining table, Large TV, desk and sofa and chairs. Best of all is it had 3 balcony views! One off the living area gave a similar view that we had in the room we came from, the other right out onto the ocean, (which could be reached through the living area or the bedroom). How nice to wake in the morning with the ocean sounds and breeze coming in. WE were included in the 'Voyager47' club as a part of the upgrade, which meant breakfast and dinner buffets, (and alcoholic drinks in the eve)...FREE! A great way to start a day, and wonderful place to unwind and watch the sunset. The buffets always included basics along with local dishes to try. Mixed drinks, wines, champagne, and beers as well as many nonalcoholic beverages...and all you could drink made this option pay for itself. And to top it all...what made it work perfectly was the friendly, attentive, and caring people that always make sure you are having the time of your life. I'm recommending the Outrigger Reef to anyone and everyone that says they want to go to Hawaii!!! Great Job Everyone... Aloha!!! (and we will see you again!)
We stayed at this hotel to celebrate our 10year wedding anniversary. The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is right on the beach and is close to great shopping and restaurants. We were very surprised at arrival that there is only valet parking, which means an extra $38 a day plus you still have to pay the $30plus a day resort fee. That should be made clear on their website about the extra fee for parking. Other hotels that we stayed at in Hawaii offered valet but you could also park yourself and that was included in the resort fee.On arrival we were told very little about the hotel and how things worked. You have to use your hotel card in the elevator to get to your floor, which we were not told. It took me a few trips up and down the elevator of not stopping on my floor until another guest told me that every guest is supposed to use key card to access their floor. That should be something every guest is told on arrival. Not sure I would stay here again due to all the extra charges added onto room.
If they did Half dots then my overall rating would be 3.5. I have gone higher based on the 10/10 views from our huge top floor penthouse. So we arrive back from the Big Island for our last 4 nights in Honolulu. The checking in procedure took a while or it seemed too. It’s hardly a normal hotel lobby with everyone except me & the lady checking us in being the only ones wearing any clothes! We had opted for the best room available & were well impressed with the incredible views from the two balconies. We were perched right above the waikiki action! The hotel itself is a bit tired & needs some hot architects & interior designers to really do it justice. The layout of the hotel has no continuity, for example to get to the penthouse suites you have to first find the elevator for them which is tucked around a little nook, opposite some toilets & a service door at the end of the lobby. Then jump into a snug half size elevator without aircon then pop out in between two floors you then have to take these funny little stairs to the top floor. It makes for an interesting journey from the lobby The suite was the best thing about the hotel, generously fitted out with two bathrooms the ensuite was great complete with huge spa bath with little bifolds so you can lay back & enjoy the views if you want. Was also very nice to be able to choose from two balconies one off the bedroom the other off the generously sized lounge also offering two different views. Rooms are serviced to a very high standard. The staff are very helpful & friendly. In fact the overall experience was great. I would consider returning, & would definitely return without hesitation if they gave the old girl a lick of paint! The club lounge was ok again location was out of the way & it also needs some tlc The pool area & bar is located next to the foyer just past the drive in area, the pool was high traffic, the hundreds of recliners seemed full from sun up to in down.
We enjoyed our stay at the Outrigger Reef Hotel on Waikiki beach even though it was for only one night. However it almost didn't happen as when we arrived we were told that our reservation had been cancelled? It took approximately 45 minutes and electronic proof (Travel App with confirmation code) to prove that we did have a confirmed reservation. Our reservation had to actually be "re-instated" and an entirely different room from what we originally assigned or given to us. I will give the check in host/employee "Frank" credit for continuing to follow up on the issue but I'm not sure how willing he would have been if I would not have had the electronic confirmation information mentioned above. We were never really given a reliable reason why our reservation had been cancelled except that it had been done in "error" . Moral of the story is carry your confirmation information with you to all hotel check ins. Beyond that issue, the Outrigger Reef is a nice hotel and you can't beat the location! Waikiki Beach is right out the back door and it's within walking distance to so many attractions and stores. I would stay there again as long as I didn't have to go through the scary process of not having a room after an 8 hour flight from New Zealand.
We have been coming to this hotel since our children were small. We first came in 1989 and this year clocked up our 11th visit. It is definitely the best hotel on Waikiki beach for location and value for money. We always get a great welcome when we arrive and this time our visit coincided with the 70th anniversary of the hotel and was also my husband's 70th birthday. So we were invited to a special cocktail party by the pool. A very memorable holiday. The pool area is huge with plenty of loungers and the sea is only a few steps away.
