Park Shore Waikiki
- What's Included
We stayed at the Waikiki Shore by Outrigger for 7 nights and the location is next to the Outrigger Reef on Waikiki beach. The Outrigger manage some of the Condo's whilst the rest are managed by the Waikiki Shore. If you book via Outrigger, you get to use the Outriggers facilities - pool, gym, etc but I would not recommend it for a stay. Firstly, being a condo, all the rooms are furnished differently and you can lend up with a small double bed or king bed depending on the room. Also the bathrooms are small and outdated and there is no room service, so prepare for no linen changes during your stay. If you book via the Outrigger, the reception staff at the Shore do not want to know you and you have to call the Outrigger to get someone to meet you to let you in.The plus side is the living area in each room is spacious and if you book a condo, make sure it is close to the beach to see the amazing view.
1/In the past 20 years we have stayed almost all the the times we are in Honolulu in the W.S. condos.2/The condo we had in our recent visit need some attention in respect of its general condition in comparison to other condos we stayed in....it lacks the fresh new look.3/The general hygene especially in the kitchenet is very poor... the kitchen sink and the counter top are not cleaned properly every day . Because of the location of the rubbish bin need to spray around the bin every day with a disinfectant/ surface spray.4/ the Bed does not feel and look fresh after it has been done5/Front desk staff and security are very courteous and helpful.
We were upgraded to 406, a one bedroom apartment/park view, which appeared to have had a makeover, brand new kitchen appliances, new cupboard doors etc. A huge room with full kitchen, plenty of everything you need in the kitchen, big gas cooktop, oven, microwave, big fridge/freezer and a dishwasher, dining area, lounge, big bathroom, lots of cupboard space and big verandah. As it sleeps 4 (with foldout lounge) there was masses of room for the 2 of us. We could hear the surf at night. A few street noises during the night but has to be expected with so many people around.Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Security was good, parking available, beach at front of building (bit rocky underfoot so be careful). Easy to walk along either way to a bit better beach and plenty of eating places and shopping within 2 minute walk. Great location!
We stayed in a studio condo the last week of Aug/early Sept for 7 nights and had a great week. I booked via Outrigger so we could utilize the pool next door in case the weather got sketchy. I knew in advance to check in up the street at the Regency on Beachwalk (just a short walk from the Waikiki Shore), so we had the taxi drop us off there. Someone was waiting for us in the lobby with room keys when we arrived to the lobby. We had a ocean view studio (#604) and were happily surprised with the room after seeing reviews and pics of some older condos (I was nervous about getting a dud room). Everything was clean and well stocked. The view from the balcony was fantastic! The kitchen had everything we needed, including toaster, full size coffee maker (I was smart and brought my own filters and a bag of good ground coffee), basic array of pots and pans, half size fridge w/small freezer. There is a microwave and 4 burner gas stove but no oven or dishwasher. There was also a broom/dustpan and good vacuum which really helped keep things tidy when we tracked in sand from the beach. The bed was actually a platform murphy bed, but the mattress was super firm and comfy. We used the washer/dryer many times which was great because we didn't have to bring home a case full of soggy, sandy clothes.I have read complaints about only one (slow) elevator, but we had a second elevator right there around the corder from our door, and although they are both relatively busy, we never really had to wait very long. There are a few ways to get in to the building from the beach, which was convenient as well. Also, there is a little secret entry way that takes you right in to the Outrigger next door, near the lobby. We stocked up on basic groceries using a mix of Longs abd 7 Eleven (near the end of Beachwalk) and the bigger ABC Store on Lewers. Overall, we had a fantastic week and I'd definitely book via the Outrigger again and hopefully get the same room or perhaps try a 1 bedroom next time if the price is right.
Stayed in Castle Waikiki for a few nights as a part of our honeymoon and were happy with the spacious room, fantastic view and location.ROOMThe rooms come equipped with a fully furnished kitchen with plenty of utensils and crockery to use if you want to prepare meals (which we did for breakfast). You can choose to sit and eat at the small table or on the balcony. There's also a safe which is included to use and TV/DVD player, although the channel selection wasn't great and the quality was a bit fuzzy and blurry. We woke up to sights of the ocean and it is the most beautiful sight that I've ever woken up to and the sunsets from the ocean view rooms are amazing.BATHROOMThe toilet and shower are in a separate smaller section to the rest of the bathroom. There's plenty of sink space and small complimentary toiletries. We made use of the washer and dryer there which was great and they provide 1 free Tide detergent for your first wash, any more after that you can buy at the front desk for $1.The shower cubicle did make me feel a bit claustrophobic because it's kind of hidden away in a corner.BUILDINGThe condo unit itself is quite secure. Residents have to use their keycard to access the door to get to the lifts and then again to use the lift. There is 24hr security and the front desk are there til 11pm.You do have to pay a mandatory cleaning fee as it's a condominium. We paid $99 for the 4nights we were there. This obviously includes bed making, changing towels, clearing bins etc. There are no toilets in the lobby and not much of a seating area. We arrived around 12.30pm and were told we couldn't check in til 3pm, but our room was ready at about 2.30pm so we just got something to eat nearby til then and they were able to keep our luggages in their office. It is difficult for transfer buses to collect you from the entrance, so you'll have to wait outside of the Starbucks/Outrigger Hotel which is literally just on the doorstep. The apartment block itself could do with some redecorating and the decor inside the rooms were a little old fashioned, but it was still comfortable nonetheless.LOCATIONThe condo is perfectly located! It is right on the beach and walking distance to loads of supermarkets, restaurants, bars and shops. We didn't need a cab to get anywhere as what we needed was so close. The location of this condo definitely helped to make our stay in Hawaii enjoyable. Our flight to leave Hawaii was at 9pm and weren't being collected from the condo til 6.45pm, but they were kind enough to let us stay in the room til 2pm for free as there was no-one checking in there that day (check out is usually at 12pm). Again, we were able to leave our luggages there with them.
