Sheraton Princess Kaiulani
- What's Included
I’ve combined 2 reviews for 2 stays here because TripAdvisor doesn’t allow 2 reviews of the same place within a 3 month period…Recently returned back to Australia from the Caribbean, I once again stayed here at PK “twice”, on the way there and also on the way back .. This time I decided to stay in the lower Princess block with a pool view room, I was on the 6th floor, once again I have nothing but praise for this hotel from the cleaning staff up, everyone always friendly. I surprised myself with how much I also enjoyed being at a lower level rather than way up high in the tower, I will say the lanai (balcony) is a bit tighter than the tower but nothing to worry about, you can still sit there and have your balcony doors wide open… a few of my favourite staff (Kathy on the desk, Heidi, Angie and Lei at the pool bar)were actually off on leave this time, however I did get to meet the most beautiful and helpful Gabriella from behind the scenes in HR while she was selling shirts to raise money for the children’s hospital, what a credit she is to this hotel! (hope she still has the kangaroo on her desk) .. also Linda on the desk to help you with go pro’s, portable wifi’s, sim cards etc was so friendly and helpful, as I’ve stated before, I don’t bother comparing other hotels for prices etc anymore, I just book here, so simple. My stay here on my return from the Caribbean was all I’d been looking forward to and hoping for after I had survived being trapped on the island of St Maarten when hurricane Irma hit, I was trapped there for 5 days without power or running water then evacuated to the Dominican Republic for 5 days til I could get back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to make my connection back to Honolulu via Las Vegas. I had been travelling for 21hrs including layovers, I was totally exhausted and quite sick when I arrived at SPK a little too early for my room to be ready, thank god Kathy was on the desk when I arrived, she organized a temporary room for me, so I could clean up and refresh and sleep til my room was ready, this time on the 5th floor.. I was sooo thankful for that, she went to the trouble of organizing a basket of goodies with a card attached to be sent to my room for me as well. This time I was on the 5th floor Princess Pool View room, which I enjoyed, it was clean and comfortable as is always the case, and it’s nice to have the afternoon/evening music drifting up. As the days passed, Kalei at the pool, after hearing my story also surprised me and had a nice little basket sent to my room .. (I wasn’t telling my story for baskets) what a great guy he is, I also want to mention Gregg and Erin at the front desk, always friendly and helpful, and beautiful little Leonora the cleaner on the 5th floor, always looking out for me and ready to chat. I Got to catch up with Heidi and Angie at the Splash bar who both gave me a great big hug too lol .. Another PC has been added to the business center which is a lot better than lining up for just the single one which was there. I wonder if Gabriella had something to do with that?? .. No wonder I love staying here! … I’ll be back in April/May.
We know it's expensive and the rooms are a little dated, but it is in a great location, staff are outstanding and they have a few features worth the extra: beach towels, chairs, go pros and other craft for guests. Excellent choice in Waikiki
The property is open and airy and in excellent condition. All the staff were extremely helpful, and just want to make sure your visit is stellar. Located just one block from the beach and near plenty of restaurants and retail, this is a gem.
We stayed here for 7 nights and wished we could have stayed elsewhere but were locked in with a travel agents package unfortunately. If we werent locked in we would have checked out after the first night and stayed elsewhere.Pro's:Self Parking is free however is included in the hefty US$27 daily resort feeGreat Location - straight across the road from Waiheke beachShower Room - we got in early and our room wasnt ready so they gave us a room to use for 1 hour to shower and freshen upCon's:The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment, wallpaper had mold between joins, furniture old and battered, carpet smelly, old and worn. We were on the 17th floor and it was very noisy, street noise plus air conditioning unitsI would not classify this as a resort, it has a regular size pool and sun lounges, thats about it Restaurant - only had breakfast which was poor, with birds flying around, landing on tables, buffet and serving plates. In addition to this it was extremely expensive for a buffet breakfast. When walking past the restaurant at anytime there was an unpleasant smellLifts - very very slow & always full, you had to wait for multiple lifts to come and go Service - average, what turned us off was being repeatedly told about the checkout time of 11am when we were checking inFor the cost there are alot better places to stay
Definitely would not recommend several things at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. We had 4 rooms for our party and stayed here for 10 days with an average cost of $220. We moved rooms 4 times due to poor room conditions. There are several rooms where the AC does not work. The rooms had a minimum temperature of 78 degrees. One room had mold in it and another room had ants. We finally were moved to a newer remodeled room that the temperature would get down to 72 degrees. I could not believe that the rooms we were placed in were allowed to be utilized. When I asked about compensation for our troubles, we were given 2 adult tickets to buffet only. This was extremely disappointing because the buffet was limited in their food selection especially for those with food allergies. In addition, we would have had to pay for our kids to eat (which kids free was supposed to be included). As far as kids eat free, we were still charged at the splash bar restaurant for our kids' meals. The hotel stated that the splash bar was not considered a restaurant. It had a full menu and over 20 tables to sit at. Definitely would consider that a restaurant.Pool is not kid friendly. The staff restrict any toys and the less that 6 foot deep end is about 1/4 of pool. The majority of splash bar wait staff, with exception to Romeo only serve you when you flag them down. Positives are they offer seats for the beach and free icee poles for everyone. Definitely utilize somewhere else than the hotel's excursion desk. They are over priced and do not provide all details. For example, we reserved for Pearl Harbor. The tour was rushed and did not allow for time to do audio tour plus Arizona memorial. The hotel staff did not tell us that we would have to check bags at gate for a $4 charge per bag. Our tour guide provided misleading information regarding how much effort she had to put into obtaining our tickets. She often had a passive aggressive attitude and was extremely strict. 2nd example was we reserved the luau at the hotel. They told us to be a half 1/2 hour early. They failed to tell us there were kids activities before the event and our kids missed it. We then had very disappointed kids once they could not participate in the activities.I received a survey from the hotel and provided the above information with the disappointment. They provided a template response stating they would discuss with the hotel. I never received any follow up. Based on the amount of money spent at this hotel and their failure to provide adequate service, we will not be staying at a Sheraton or Marriott in the future.
