Sheraton Princess Kaiulani
- What's Included
This hotel is well located a half block from the beach. You don't really need to be located on the beach in this area, it's a very easy walk. Access to the hotel is difficult at first, the entrance is tiny compared to most grand hotel entrances. The hustle and bustle makes it even more difficult. Valet was full show is was a cluster to drive up and get sent over to the parking garage which was difficult to find also. The hotel itself is pretty average but clean. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful. My room was on the 25th floor, awesome view but not if you're afraid of heights.Shops, eateries and beach are just a few steps away. The pool is nothing to rave about. Don't stay here if you're wanting to relax poolside by a beautifully landscaped meandering pool. This is a round concrete hole in the ground with water in it and lounges around it. It's basic. I'd stay here again though, no problem.
I stayed at this Sheraton specifically because it offered a business rate for a work trip. The room: mine was a city view overlooking the International Market Place. The room is probably the most basic and oldest I've stayed in for a SPG hotel. The AC, TV, wireless internet and shower all worked well and was sufficient for a business traveler who does not spend time in the room. The hotel lobby is a mix of modern and very dated design - not sure why the whole thing hasn't been renovated. The pool area is decent and gets plenty of sun even until 5pm. Parking is steep at $35 a day. What are the positives? First of all, I would have normally given this a 3 rating, but the staff were above and beyond professional, very friendly, and helped me recover a passport I left in my room safe. If you are looking for a centrally located hotel in Waikiki, close to restaurants, shops, and beach, at a decent price for the area, this is it. The fact that you could walk out the door and safely walk in any direction with so much to see along Waikiki's main strip is probably the biggest seller. Of course, this is not your parents' Waikiki and there are way better areas to stay than Honolulu if this is your first time to Hawaii. Negatives? If you are a room and view snob, this is not for you. The rooms, elevator and some lobby areas are very dated. That said, it's all surprisingly functional.
Though we only stayed for 3 days between our cruise program, we found the staff, the atmosphere & so handy to everything on the main drag of Honolulu. Rooms very comfortable, view was spectacular & service first class. Throughly recommend.
This property can be 5 stars with a remodel. It is perfectly located across from the beach, next to the International Marketplace, across from Westin Moana Surfrider, and next to lots of shopping! No need for a car unless you are going out of Waikiki area. Where the Sheraton PK falls short is the room quality. The overall size is ok but the rooms are very tired. We heard they are going to completely change this hotel in the near future. It certainly needs it. The vibe of the restaurant, bar, and pool area reflect the type of hotel this has become. It is not a happening place. There are people but certainly not a lively bunch (at least during the 4 times I've been in the property or stayed there). Comparatively, go over to the Sheraton Waikiki and it has a completely different vibe...lively, happening, young. Bottom line is this - if you like the beach and want a great location, this place is worth it. If you got to have a happening hotel with fantastic rooms, wait until they remodel.
Decided to book 10 days here for my wife's birthday. Just like you probably did, I searched and found that this hotel was cheaper than many of the others. If you are ok not being in a fancy 5 star, go for it! Room was nice and clean and we were upgraded to a full ocean view room. Celeste at the front desk treated us with so much aloha from the moment we walked in. Shower was nice and hot and the in room coffee and water are free. As you probably seen already, there is a pool. It was full of kids every day that we were there and they seemed to be having fun. I personally don't understand going to Hawaii and swimming in a pool. GO TO THE BEACH!Never the less, the pool was cleaned every morning and was ready to go daily. We tried the hotel's breakfast buffet and I do not recommend it. You can find far better selection for the same price just minutes away.I do recommend the splash bar! Bartender Shawna (I know I spelled that wrong, sorry) was awesome! She greated us by name everyday and introduced us to the other staff members like we were long time friends. We shared lots of laughs with the splash bar crew and enjoyed the daily specials. They are also great for tips on what to do, where to go and things to see.Waikiki is all about location and the Sheraton princess kaiulani is located central to everything. If you plan on taking any tours, the pick up point for everything is right out the front door. Shopping and good eats are all around you, everything is walking distance. Parking is $35 per day so we didn't pick up a car for the first few days in order to save money. All in all this is a great place to stay. Staff was great, room was clean, close to everything. No one goes to Hawaii to sit in Their room, why not save a little and use it elsewhere on your trip? That's what we did and will do again. We recommend this hotel and will book again.
