The Modern Honolulu
- What's Included
My husband and I visited in Mid-Sept this year for 1 week (I wish it had been longer!!) for our Babymoon from Sydney, AUS.Before we left, I had read on here that the nightclub can sometimes be a little loud so I called and requested to have a room a little higher than floors 1 - 3. The manager more than happily accomodate our request and we were on floor 7 and it was perfect. (We had a city view room, but when you stepped onto the balcony you could also see the Marina and the water so it was great! We also had a Friends with Benefits deal that accounted for $25 a day credit to use at the hotel. This was great for us as I was not drinking and my husband was also not drinking in support of me! So $25 bought us our lunch to share most days or a couple of mock tails and a snack. Every little bit helps! The staff are attentive around the pool and not pushy. Always there when you needed something and were more than happy to help you set up your towels for the day. The housekeeping and the front desk staff were also very good. The rooms are minimal and spacious with lovely furnishings. The bathroom a good size, and if you don't want to see through to the bedroom the shutters can be moved down and closed. They bed is also comfy, the pillows are very soft but still lovely and cozy. For us personally, being 23 weeks pregnant at the time, we thought the location of the hotel was FANTASTIC. It is a 10 min walk to Ala Moana shops. The area is fairly quiet in comparison to Waikiki where all the hotels are and it just felt so relaxing. We always got a seat by the pool each day and then in the afternoon we would go to the Lagoon around the corner and sit on the grass and relax and enjoy watching everyone enjoying themselves. We would walk into Waikiki of an evening for a meal and we would walk along the beachfront to do this. At a leisurely, pregnant stroll pace its 20 mins and very enjoyable. The hubbub of Waikiki is great but to come back to a more quiet hotel is wonderful. The best of both worlds!!I would say that the hotel is great for families, couples or singles with the pool area being fairly respectful to those sitting around. The kids that were there were not doing "bombs" or jumping around - they were just having a nice time but being reasonably quiet. I would recommend that if you do have kids that want to do that - then the lagoon around the corner is PERFECT! You can hire paddle boards and other fun equipment and they can shriek and play as much as they like. All in all, we had the most wonderful holiday and we cannot wait to come back as we know we will definitely will!!Thank you Modern!
The name modern describes the hotel to a t. Modern design, very friendly staff. Amazing views across the sea. The pool area was clean and the pool staff were always willing to help you. The food all through the day was delicious.
Lovely hotel, staff were very helpful, pool area was great, well equipped gym,my wife had a spa which she said was excellent,we were located a 17th floor room with side balcony, views to the beach and the main streets, unfortunately we did not get the sun on the balcony in the afternoon, the hotel kindly sent champagne, strawberries and a card to our room on arrival wishing us all the best on our celebration, this was well received and a lovely gesture, I had a game of golf arranged by the hotel and on the day it all went to plan, meals were tasty and good value, the hotel is a short walk to the beach, there are several local shops across the street,
I stayed in The Modern twice, at the beginning and the end of my trip to Hawaii. The rooms were very nice with a lot of space and very comfortable. The hotel is close to the sea and pretty close to Waikiki center. The staff was very friendly and kind. The breakfast by the pool quite good. The only thing I didn’t like much is that the corridor at the rooms floor was extremely cold. I know that in Europe we have different standard for A/C temperature but that was really too cold.
Unique hotel located on the Marina front end of the main beach. For me the location was not ideal, I would have preferred more of a beach access hotel, but my girl friend wanted to stay close to the shopping centres. Breakfast was very intense and quite American.
