We just checked out of the Modern, and were very pleased with our stay there. The room was very comfortable, with beautiful linens and modern furnishings. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the food was incredible (try the banana pancakes for breakfast). We ate in the Morimoto for dinner, and it lived up to expectations. I especially liked the ribs appetizer, and the pineapple tempura.Fine attention at the pool, with courteous wait staff and a beautiful setting. We did puzzle at the lack of enough electrical outlets and the fact that there are no drawers in the room, but we made it work, and it was fine. All in all, very very satisfied. We will definitely stay at the Modern again.
My wife and I stayed there on our first and last day of our 10 day stay in Oahu. We are so glad that we started and ended our babymoon there! Excellent customer service. We felt pampered both times we stayed there. We booked through their own website and signed up for their "Friends with Benefits" program which was AMAZING! $100 hotelcredit for each sta! Like you needed more reasons to eat at Morimoto! (which was delicious).Loved the ambiance and how the hotel went out of their way to give us chocolate strawberries on our first night to congratulate us on our baby! Small token, but we really appreciated it! The lounge had delicious drinks and food! And we had a $25 credit thanks to having signed up with the Friends with Benefits package! The stay spoiled us. We had to stay at another hotel back in the mainland, and even though it was also a nice hotel and a well known brand, it paled in comparison to our stay at the Modern Honululu! We hope to be back!
We visited on the final leg of our tour of 3 islandsInitial arrival - 4 starWe were greeted warmly on arrival and after reaching the room and finding it had no balcony we were upgraded free of charge which was a nice touch. No information about the local area was offered though, and just before departure we found they had Waikiki walking maps on the front desk - we would've liked one of these on arrival, as it was our first time in Honolulu and we didn't know the area.RoomsGuest rooms are minimalistic, clean and tidy and well designed. There is a lack of USB charging ports though which the last two resorts we stayed at did have - for a 'modern' hotel they missed a little trick here. Also you have to request a mini fridge for the room and one of the bell boys will bring it up, and kind of plonk it on the floor which is a bit strange. The balcony furniture is rusting and is the type of stuff you'd see in a really run down bar to be honest, but it did the job, so I'll still give 4 stars for the room. Service - 5 starCouldn't fault the service at the pool, bar and front desk except the lack of info forthcoming on arrival. We are sticklers for good service so for us to give them 5 is a massive compliment!LocationNot rating this in numbers because it is where it is and they can't change that! It's central to Waikiki but just on the edge so not as noisy/busy. There's an ABC grocery store within a stones throw which is useful. The location couldn't be better for those wishing to explore Waikiki but not wanting to be right in the midst of the hustle and bustle.SummaryDon't take 4 stars as negative - I only give 5 to absolutely perfect experiences - this place comes very close. We did really enjoy our stay and would return.
We stayed at The Modern as part of our Honeymoon trip and the hotel is unbelievably stylish. If you are looking for class and something chic then this is the hotel for you. The rooms are spacious, modern and very clean. We had a partial sea view which was perfect with a great view of the city, harbour and neighbouring bay. All the hotel staff are very sociable and friendly with a great attention to customer service, with full pool service if you fancy a quiet and more chilled day. The concierge team are very helpful with great knowledge of what is good and not good to do. If you stay at the hotel then you have to try Morimotos restaurant situated in the hotel. Truly amazing food and again great service. It's not the cheapest hotel though and we decided to eat out most of the time. Breakfast & Lunch at the hotel is not the greatest value and you can find cheaper and equally as satisfying eateries within a 10 minute walk. If you want to be in the heart of Waikiki then it's a good 20 minute walk away but if you want to be away from the busy tourist bit then this is ideal
We stayed here for the last leg of our honeymoon. After coming from the beautiful island of Maui we were a little shocked by the city lights of Honolulu and were already missing the tropical surroundings of our last destination when we checked in. The decor of the Modern is very trendy and cool, a little clinical actually and did not have a Hawaiian feel at all. Check in was fine- they couldn't care less that we were on our honeymoon though which was a shame. We had a lovely stay but planned lots of day trips to other parts of the island so didn't spend too much time at the hotel- the concierge were very helpful. Breakfast at the grove was lovely and the sunset over the harbour is well worth a watch! It is in a good location but be prepared for a good 20/30 minute walk to the main area for restaurants and bars. Overall a good stay but probably wouldn't return.
