We just stayed here for ten nights. It was our first visit to Hawai'i. We arrived late and the room was very welcoming. We had a City view room with a balcony. It was spacious, clean and white. Our room was always quiet - we were on the 9th floor at the very end, so didn't have people walking past late at night. Great Lather toiletries in the bathroom. We had room service a couple of times, which was delivered quickly and always came with a glass of iced water regardless of whether drinks were ordered or not. We ate one evening at the Grove. The menu is very much the same as the room service menu. Unfortunately the waiter really could not be bothered, we got forgotten and ignored. This was at the beginning of our stay - we didn't eat there again. We also had one drink in the Study, but the live music was so loud we couldn't talk. The sunrise pool is really quite small and although there are a number of loungers it just felt really hemmed in. We decided to laze by the sunset adults only pool, which as most is a foot deep. There are floats which you can just laze on. The pool is surrounded by a sandy beach and generally feels open and spacious. The bar staff by this pool were friendly, helpful and attentive. The sun doesn't really get to either pool until around midday. The main problem we experienced was people leaving loungers, but not removing towels and so it's impossible to tell if a lounger is available. The concierge were really helpful booking trips for us.The hotel location is really good, close to Ala Moana and the lagoon where the Friday night fireworks go up from. Also a great place to watch the sunset over the marina. We bought tickets to the New Year's Eve party by the sunset pool, but feel it was overpriced for what it was. The entertainment were a group of fire dancers who were good. There were also some fireworks around 10pm. There were canapes going around, but they didn't come to our table much. There was also a glass of prosecco at midnight, but we didn't really think much of the party and felt we'd have been better off having a drink in our room and watching the fireworks later.I would recommend the hotel, it was great not to stay in a big chain hotel. The staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms spacious, comfortable and clean. Personally, I feel the location was better than if we'd stayed closer to Waikiki Beach.
Conveniently located in Waikiki with Spectacular views and pitch perfect Customer Service We had a lovely morning enjoyed The Hummus it was insane ! On other visits the Roast Turkey was out of this world. The Hotel boasts some of the finest rooms anywhere in Hawaii. It is also home to The Grove ( the Best poolside locale Ive ever been to ), and The Study with Live Music Enjoy the pictures coming up soon
We are frequent visitors to The Modern (we even stayed when they first opened and was called The Edition). The hotel never fails to impress and makes our yearly Christmas trip from Australian an absolute pleasure. The rooms are modern (as the name suggests), comfortable and always extremely clean. Our last stay was on the 7th floor in a suite with lounge and the most amazing views of the harbor and the beach - it was spectacular. Cecilia Derramas - the Guest Relations Manager looked after us extremely well, it made our stay even more special. Cecilia and all the staff at The Modern are wonderful and extremely accommodating to us. The pool staff are great, fun and the pool is the perfect place to spend the days away. For the evening we enjoy leaving the hotel for dinner the and Veronica Paige the head concierge always has the best suggestions for dinner spots, for past 3 years she has never failed to look after us! We look forward to our next visit.
We chose this hotel for it's proximity to Ala Moana (10 minute walk). We only had two nights in Waikiki having been there before so it was principally a quick shopping trip prior to heading to Maui. As other reviewers have noted the hotel is on the edge of the Waikiki precinct however there are buses both trolley and normal running regularly to avoid long walks to sites, restaurants and shops. The beach - a few steps from the hotel is also quite shallow and not as popular for swimming as some other parts of Waikiki. Our flight arrived late on a Friday night and it was a little confronting to walk into the foyer with the night club in the hotel pumping next door. Our room however was blissfully quiet so if you are looking for a hotel away from the craziness of the centre of Waikiki thIs is a good option. As the name suggests the interior was very sleek and modern and the hallways weirdly dark. We had room service breakfast both days and it was ok - I would avoid the omelette but the other options were all fine. There are two reasonably priced bars/restaurants across the road if you are looking for a quick lunch or dinner option. Basic food at the Aussie Steakhouse but lots of it. The pool at the Modern was busy (it was a weekend) and it wasn't particularly large but lots of lounges.
