Holiday Inn Orlando SW Celebration Area
- What's Included
The hotel consists of two towers of rooms and multiple floors; we stayed in tower 2 floor 7. We had a standard room with standard view out of the balcony which easily held two chairs. We had a good view of the pool area, two pools -- one adult and one for kids -- plus a hot tub. There is also a playground and simply a sunbathing area as well. Sadly it was never above 70 when we were there. We had a two queen size bed room that was very good sized. The bed mattresses were okay and each bed had four pillows -- two marked "soft" and two marked "firm" but I didn't find much difference between them. I took the bed closest to the air conditioner because it had a tendency to really hit that bed hard and my hubby is generally colder than me.It was easy to see the tv from each bed. There was a desk and chair as well but it wasn't as large as in a Holiday Inn Express we stayed at the previous month. In fact, over all this hotel was weaker than the Holiday Inn Express in Sparta Illinois which is a teeny tiny town. There was a Keurig coffee maker and ice bucket in the room though only tea and coffee; I wanted hot chocolate personally. Why don't hotel include that? The mini refrigerator only worked if you turned on the master switch near the door and that took awhile for us to figure out. Electrical outlets were not ideally placed, we had to unplug the clock radio between the beds to have a place for our phones but we used them as alarm clocks so that was okay. The bathroom counter was easily large enough for all our needs. The shower worked well though my husband pointed out that the exhaust fan isn't great because the paint over the door buckled while he took one of his long hot showers. It can be easy to close the drain with a foot so be wary of that when you use it. A safe is also in the bathroom and it can easily hold a couple of laptops. The maid service was good but when it happened varied widely day to day. One day it might happen before noon while on another day it was pushing 6pm. The maids remembered how many towels we requested so we always had enough. The staff in general was very friendly and helpful if you went down to the front desk; trying to get the front desk on the phone was impossible. The hotel has a bar area that is separate from the restaurant though we never saw it open when we stayed there. There is also a game room with lots of video games but no one was playing when we went in to explore. Why would you when "Old Town" and Disney are so close? There is a separate counter for Disney, Universal Studios, and car rentals as well across the waiting area opposite the check-in. The two desks don't seem to know much about the other side's business. Finally there is a small shop where we found an autograph book for Disney at a much lower price than at Disney itself though most other items in the shop seemed very pricey compared to the stores you can easily walk to nearby. The biggest downside to this hotel is that it does not have transportation to and from the airport even though it promotes itself as a good place to stay if you are going to Disney. That the hotel as a shuttle to and from Disney each day yet not the airport is weird and it will cost you over $70 for the ride if you don't want to rent a car. Once you are there it is a nice place to just hang out and explore the area. The hotel is on the side of the highway where there are multiple restaurants and shops, for the three nights and four days we were there, we could have easily eaten at a different place each meal. The restaurant in the hotel had an odd schedule in March when we visited -- only breakfast and dinner and dinner was Pizza Hut primarily; the breakfast buffet was excellent in terms of food and price. The hotel is also across the street from an area called "Old Town" which we visited over two days. Think of it as local amusement park -- free to wander around and to visit and buy from the shops but the rides all cost. There is also the Chocolate Kingdom which is a must visit for chocolate lovers.
We arrived at this hotel on 03/17/17 and at check in they tried to double charge me as my trip was paid for in full before coming. On the second day we decided to relax at the hotel and we went down to the " heated pool" that was ice cold. The hot/ spa tub was also freezing cold! While sitting by the hot tub a contractor came to fix the hot tub and started jack hammering with us right by it.. dust was flying every where. That night when going to bed I noticed that the housekeeper didn't even change our sheets!! She just made the bed with dirty sheets left on it!! One elevator quit working on day three! We decided to stay out a little late that evening and when we came back there was no parking spots available within a mile!! We were out all day on our fourth day there and when we got back to our room at 5:30 it still had not been cleaned!! Another elevator broke down that evening so they only had one working elevator for the rest of our trip! We decided to try the pool again on our fifth day and again the "heated pool" was ice cold and the spa/hot tub was not working!! So much for a relaxing vacation!!
Let me start this review off by saying that we redeemed travel reward points to stay here, so our stay was free. The hotel staff were very kind and helpful upon our arrival and throughout our stay. The rooms were slightly outdated, but clean. The beds were comfortable and they provide ample pillows. The bathroom was large and well-equipped. They have a large pool, kiddy pool and hot tub. The hot tub was not working one of the days, and they promptly had a repair man come in and fix it that day. The hotel provides a shuttle to Disney and Universal (the later is a $15/round trip fee). Due to traffic and the lateness of others, the shuttle was often delayed. The pickup times can also leave you waiting around after a long day at the park. This hotel is not very soundproof so we were awoken many times our first morning by doors closing very loudly. There were adjoining doors to the rooms on either side of ours, this made sound travel even more easily. So if you're a light sleeper, this will most definitely be a problem. I don't think I would stay here again, for the sole reason that I did not sleep very well.
The front desk lady was very nice and helpful when arrived, and when needed something copied and faxed. The bathroom is the tiniest bathroom I had ever seen in a hotel. The room was clean! The suite has a kitchenette without a stove. The breakfast is good, and the dining area is very spacious!I recommend this hotel if in the area!!!
My husband and I spent 6 nights at this property. While it's not perfect, this hotel was inexpensive, has a great location, rooms are clean and staff was friendly. The nightly rate was about $105, very affordable. There is plenty of free parking, too. It's about a 10 - 15 minute drive to Disney (depending on the park you visit) and 20 - 25 minutes to Universal. PropertyPulling up to the property for the first time, I was worried about parking. But there is a side and back lot that get fairly full, but we could always find a space. Check in was super fast and easy. Andrew was friendly and welcoming. There are two towers, with the pool, gym and restaurant in between. The property was clean and looks like it has been recently updated. There is a pizza place in the hotel. The restaurant has a decent breakfast for about $9. Other than the cheap K-Cups in the room, there isn't free coffee; you have to purchase it in the restaurant. This is one of my minor complaints. The property seemed very busy, but was quiet. A McDonald's is right next door and there are several restaurants within walking distance. RoomThe room was nice. There is a balcony. If you stay on the backside of the second tower (looking over the parking lot), you can see the fire works from Epcot (I believe). The room also had a mini fridge. The beds were comfortable and had both soft and firm pillows. The shower always had plenty of hot water. My one (silly) complaint about the room is that drawers are really loud when you pull them out. You could even hear the people upstairs opening their drawers. Stay here! You'll save money, sleep well and enjoy yourself.
