Seralago Hotel and Suites Maingate East
- What's Included
Let me start this off by saying if you're looking for a high scale resort, this place is not for you. However, this place was just my cup of tea. You could tell it was a little rundown but it had so much character. The rooms were a great size and they were so cute. The distance to Disney World was great, only about a 10 minute drive. I loved the atmosphere plus the price I paid for my stay was amazing.
I stayed last October 2016, we were not amazed with the place, customer service was fine, but the hotel could use an uplift. The food was ok and the service was also ok, kitchen staff could use more worker, but for a family it could be better.
I was a little disappointed in the Seralago this time. When we first checked in, one of the beds was like laying on cement. The air conditioner, microwave and refrigerator didn't work. The front desk wanted to send maintenance. I waited on the phone for 20 minutes to talk to the manager. When she got on the phone, she also wanted to send maintenance but she finally switched our room. The pool was extremely cold.
I am not a hotel snob by any means. I have been lucky enough to stay at some "high-fa-lootin" (southern terms) hotels and resorts over the years for work trips and conferences. When I travel with family, I am usually on a budget. So I look for place that are affordable, no-frills, clean, and safe. Which is why I chose the Seralago despite a few "iffy" reviews. We stayed here for one night before we checked into a Disney Value Resort (which I must add that we chose because it came with a free dining plan - so see... cheapskate, frugal, and non-prissy woman here).... On the positive side - the staff at check-in were super nice. Very friendly, and the check-in process went smooth. The grounds seemed pretty decent between 10pm when we arrived, and 7am when we left for Disney - can't tell you much there. There was even an entertaining parade of golf carts (literally, with lights and decorations and everything) that went by as we were checking in. It was a couple of weeks before Christmas, and my daughters were very amused. We saw an armadillo for the first time ever in the parking lot - very cool.BUT - that's where the good kind of ends... the "suite" type room that my daughters and I shared with my parents really wasn't that bad. Dated and a little run-down, but seemed clean enough. My brother and best friend's room, however, smelled like raw hamburger and had some very suspicious looking holes in the door that were about the same size as a bullet-hole. I have no clue what they were, but it made me nervous. I could have overlooked that, BUT it reeked of weed (marijuana, green, ganja, whatever you wanna call it) outside of our room and my brother's room several halls down. That would not have bothered me at 18. But at 33, with two kids (that I kept saying it's just a skunk), and being in law enforcement.... it wasn't a pleasant experience. Honestly, it didn't bother my dad and mom, who ride Harley's to Sturgis and Daytone every year and swear that experience is the norm... my dad kept saying I was being a snob (he is retired law enforcement too, so maybe the drugs just bother us 15-year veterans and not the old-timers). So if a little weed smell and dated rooms doesn't bother you, then the price is great. If you prefer to not have to explain the smell of marijuana to your five-year-old - then maybe look elsewhere.
We stayed for two nights for a stop over in Orlando to visit Sea World. I have always wanted to stay here because I love the kid cabin area. We have 3 kids so the bunk and the 1 single were perfect allowing everyone to have their own bed. Well, the bad part was that the adult bed was very uncomfortable right down to the pillows which were just lumps of cotton stuffed in a pillow case. The bed was sagging in places. The room was fairly clean except for the mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. The shower curtain was hung too far in and you couldn't shower without it touching you-kind of gross because you know they aren't cleaning the shower curtain. The pool area would have been very nice except for the bar where people were allowed to smoke. There were 3 men sitting at one of the tables blatantly checking out the ladies, including moms, in their bathing suits which made me very uncomfortable and glad that I decided not to swim. I did not feel completely safe here either. There were a lot of shady characters. The staff was friendly, though.
