Star Island Resort and Club
- What's Included
OverviewThis all suite property is ideal for extended stays or quick weekend getaways. Location: Kissimmee
My family and I traveled to Florida on February Vacation , with travel preparations by "Tourico Vacactions" we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen and beautiful master bedroom. Our children loved the pools and amenities. Thank you Tourico Vacations for your incredible pricing and service.
we almost bought here 3 years ago, sure glad I didn't. Community association is run by Meyer family. Tower units are owned by Wyndham which is why we came back. Unfortunately, it does not look like time has treated star island well. They advertise recent renovations but unit furniture is worn and mattresses are old and in need of replacement. Dishwasher in our unit was at least 5 year old and timer was bad. Unlike our last visit the place was packed, as it seems they are marketing to a much lower class clientele in order to fill up rooms. Upon check in our internet did not function and we got no feed back or estimated time of repair from third party vendor. GM has not implemented any procedure for handling complaints and issues in a timely and efficient manner. Resort staff is poorly trained and refuses to take ownership of any issue. I would ask a question and be told " I don't know talk to someone else". Worst of all it appear community association run by the Meyer family has sublet out 8 out of the 9 tennis courts to a tennis club on an exclusive basis. Tennis pro looks like he is making a killing running his own private business on timeshare owners dime. My wife and children were refused a court several times due to outside use of timeshare amenities by non owner and those not staying at resort. It also appears that outside non owner transients not staying at the resort are crowding the pool resulting in a very poor experience. My calls to Wyndham were answered promptly but unfortunately they do not control the association. I would avoid staying at Star Island until these issues are resolved or Wyndam takes complete control of the resort.
Oma and Opa and toddler grandson were looking for a week of fun and relaxation and chose Star Island Resort and Club, the price was good. The property has been renovated, but age and deferred maintenance still shows in some areas. The positives: besides the price, the Kissimmee area has grown so much that you can just find anything around it, from shopping to restaurants and entertainment. Being a tourist area traffic is heavy. The one bedroom suite was spacious, it comprised of an entry hall with a closet for small washer and dryer. The living-dining area and kitchenette were fine in space and comfort, it included a sofa bed. The bedroom had a king size bed, jacuzzi tub (which was used a lot), two vanities, shower stall, and toilet stall which was the only bathroom even for guests. The balcony on the fourth floor was good. The negatives: service and stingy in amenities. The king size bed mattress was way too old and soft. The bedding for the bed was too small for the mattress and came off too easily (annoying). The first floors balconies did have a fence or screen, squirrels and other animals were all around them. Personnel is not really friendly. The one week stay only allows for one change of linens and towels. If you ask for anything to facilitate your stay such as, detergent, toiletries, coffee, paper towel, they delivered ONE. Thank goodness toilet paper came in two!Resort amenities were lacking. The two pools were extremely crowded. Tennis courts, they were plenty -great for tennis lessons which we saw plenty with the local youth. The gym was great. The arcade requires money of course. As for resort activities for kids or adults, barely. Again, the caliber of people was not there, not in the guests or personnel. There was a problem with the bill too, a charge that didn't belong to us, but after a through search of all receipts and charges of the day in question, the front desk cleared it. Would we return? IF Reunion is not available, but we will first search for a another good find that will meet the budget and class experience. If nothing else, we will.
We stayed in a unit with a partial kitchen. The layout is terrible and cramped. The beds were so uncomfortable that I woke up in pain every morning. I think there are rooms here that are nicer, but the pool area, although attractive...is way too small. It's too crowded to enjoy...I saw 1 umbrella to sit under. We visited the spa and that was a very pleasant experience. But, for a resort, there are too many better ones out there. I would not recommend it.
I am very pleased with my unit that I own. However there are a few items that could be improved. The pool is not kept as clean as it should be. A shower before entering the pool would help. The towels are very cheap by the pool and very thin. Could use some beach towels and then would only need one towel per guest at the pool. In the summer when it rains there is a very large puddle on the 4th floor as you get off the elevator. This is a slip hazard and should be mopped up as soon after a rain as possible. I saw the puddle one evening after the rain and it was still there the next morning. Music by the pool is very loud and sounded like rap music not like a relaxing music with a little bit of up beat music. Also the music at night is very loud and is heard in the units thru closed windows., I think this is entirely too loud. The hallway walls always look dirty and could use a coat of paint. It is a nice place to stay and I hope attention is paid to the comments above before my next stay.
