Hawaii Vacation

The Kona By The Sea was a very nice place and was very quiet. The accommodations were good. Was a small resort without many amenities which is just what we wanted. Good location out of the main tourist area.

Room needs some maintenance

Well, I am still here, but very unhappy about the maintenance of the condo. Today our dishwasher leaked all over the floor, we called maintenance and a maintenance guy came up with a towel. Most of the rungs on the racks are gone. 8 hours later the towel was still there, no note no nothing. We didn't even have a cutting board. Our knives are dull. We have no storage dishes with lids. Not even a salt and pepper shaker. The noise from upstairs is almost unbearable. The place has so many possibilities. The pool is nice, the view beautiful. I did use Interval International, maybe that is why we got a room with a half of a view, but, I still paid good money for the condo.

Very Good, but could have been better

This was our third trip to the Kona by the Sea property and the Big Island. It has a premier location immediately on the ocean, with gorgeous views. The initial greeting this time was a little chilly, as we were thirty minutes before check in time and told to come back in thirty minutes. No offer to stay on the grounds, just go away. This turned out to be quite a contrast to the good service we received during the remainder of the trip. When we returned, our assigned "ocean front" room was one of the rooms where 30% of the view was blocked by the building. We returned to the lobby dragging our suitcases, and were told that there were no alternatives. We could come by the next day to shop for something else but the alternatives were not much better, so we decided to not ruin a vacation day messing around with rooms. The room was furnished acceptably, but a little spartan. It was clean, and the daily maid service was effective and unobtrusive. The first night we discovered the bed frame was broken, which was speedily repaired the next day by maintenance team. The tub drain also needed repair, and was fixed later in the stay shortly after we reported it. The mattress sagged in the middle and was not comfortable. Our room was in a wing of the building backing up to the road, and we were awakened most nights by the sound of loud vehicles. In contrast the exterior areas are maintained impeccably, and the artificial beach area has comfortable chairs and umbrellas inviting a relaxing time. Parking was adequate, except one night when they had numerous "non-guests" due to a yacht club meeting and the lot was overfilled with cars parked everywhere. As a result, one fender bender had just occurred when we returned from dinner. The last day we were allowed to stay in our room an extra hour, and allowed access to the grounds after check out. That accommodation and attitude earned them a higher rating on this review despite the negativity of having less of a view than what we paid for.

Wonderful location

We enjoyed a room on the third floor, ocean front, in mid-October. The room was very nice. Not brand new, but still very clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful and friendly. It is true the beach is not accessible from the hotel, but not many locations have much beach on this island. No restaurant on property, but stock up on groceries and use the grills beside the pool. Overall had a great stay and would return. Parking was available and appreciated. 2 adults no children.

Room with a great view, by far a great value!

My fifth visit to the Big Island and having stayed both in town and at resorts/time shares on the Kohala coast, by far this location is a great spot. Truly right on the ocean, nice intimate beach area, very clean pool area too. The employees are very nice, the activities representative, Dolly has been a wealth of information and suggestions. We upgraded the room when booked to two full baths. The room is dated yet very functional. How is that the don't have salt and pepper in a fully functional kitchen? I have been leaving the house keeper five dollars gratuity each day and today have kindly left her a note to clean the toilets and the bathroom sinks.Even with the above noted negatives, in my opinion for the money, this location to town (walking distance) and the stunning views of the ocean make this at least a four star stay. I would rebook here. Aloha
