Aston Shores at Waikoloa
- What's Included
We booked one night at Aston Shores at Waikoloa to fill one gap in our hotels schedule during our stay on Big Island.Overall, we got mixed feelings from our experience there. At first the location: Waikoloa village is the least natural and genuine place you can find on Big Island. Everything in the village is almost perfect... things are so well-maintained to give the (correct) impression of an artificial town, built from scratch in the middle of a lava field.Secondly, the accommodation: the condo (I am not really a supporter of time shares / condos) is placed in a residential block of the above mentioned village. Consistently, everything is very well arranged and maintained, and good facilities (e.g. pool, shopping malls) are available.Nonetheless, we did not really enjoyed our experience in the condo: furniture (basketwork / woven objects) was looking quite old, walls were indiscreetly thin (we could hear every time a neighbor was flushing / walking / whatever...). Price was in line with the average for the area - however we found quite excessive the cleaning fees on top (50$ for a one-night stay).Would not recommend if you are looking for something natural and genuine / close to main activities and attractions, or if you are traveling for a short period.
In our one bedroom room, they provided everything like home but there was no hair dryer! It may be missing. If you plan on cooking at room, it is best option. It was standard view room as we didn't have time to stay in room and enjoy ocean view, so it was fine.
We loved staying in this resort location as it was relatively close to the beach we like best - hapuna. We booked a getaway through my parent's timeshare and were pleased with the units we got: 337, and 136 in building 10. It did seam like the villas were bigger if you need more room for family. The shores has friendly staff and a nice pool area with outside grill.
Stayed here during spring break for 8 nights. Had the most amazing room, fully renovated and right across from the perfect temperature pool. Not to mention, we looked right out onto the beautiful golf course. We were a family of 5 adults and our drive to the beautiful beaches were no more than 15 minutes. While my husband and sons did a bunch of sightseeing, my daughter and I lazed in the sun, either at the pool or the nearby beaches. Worked out perfectly for our family holiday!!
The grounds of this property is gorgeous & the location is perfect! We were in unit 216. It was very spacious for our family of 6, loved the big lanai, but I wished we had a view of the ocean & we did have some issues. The decor is very dated. The beds were VERY uncomfortable. My younger 2 kids slept on the sofa bed, which was broken. Most of the dishes were dirty so we had to wash everything before using it. The staff was nice, but it seems like they have a lot of rules & fees at this place. We stayed at Aston Kaanapali in Maui & it was like a luxurious resort where they went above & beyond! But this Aston was more like a retirement village, where you're pretty much on your own. The lady at the front desk was very nice & helpful - she gave us some gifts our last day when she found out it was our 20th Anniversary, very sweet! The ocean is supposed to be a short walk away, but it's a pretty rough walk & the water is beautiful but you can't really get in here. It's good for walking on the rocks & exploring. The Queens Market & Kings Shops are nearby - very nice & convenient (grocery store at Queens). Despite the few issues, we had a wonderful vacation on the Big Island. Our favorite thing was zip lining at Umauma Experience! Also Hapuna Beach was about 10 min away & was very nice!
