Castle Halii Kai at Waikoloa
- What's Included
We stayed in unit 9E with an ocean view and a golf course view. It was a beautiful, newer unit. The condo was comfortable for 5 adults. The pool/hot tub/restaurant/bar were wonderful with polite and helpful, friendly staff. The property was more quiet than a typical resort, but a quick walk along the beautiful rocky sea shore and you can enjoy the amenities at the Hilton next door which had more "activity" if that's the atmosphere that you want. I wished we had brought from home: salt & pepper, sugar packets or cubes (none in the unit), tea bags to make ice tea. These items would have been easy to pack but were expensive to buy for only a few uses. One time coffee service is included at the condo, but after that you can make a trip to Costco in Kona or shop at the expensive grocery stores. I would definitely recommend this unit, 9E, and the property in general.
We just returned to the Boston area last night after spending two incredible weeks in Hali'i Kai Unit 14C. The condo was well stocked: The owners have thought of everything. For example, we thought we saw some dolphins offshore and wondered if there were binoculars in the sports closet...and yes, they were! (and yes, they have a full sports closet!) Also, the condo is extremely clean and offers nice appliances, dishes and cookware. A big plus is that we didn't hear anyone else in the whole building all week! We saw lights on here and there but the place must be very well insulated/soundproofed, which is awesome! We didn't have any problems whatsoever with the condo. Very well run/maintained. A lot of attention to detail, which is much appreciated. We loved being able to walk to the pool and bar (one building over -- less than 1 minute walk) to enjoy sunsets, fun drinks and fresh fish. Or if we were lazy, we just watched the gorgeous sunsets from our waterfront lanai! So spoiled! The staff at the restaurant/bar were extremely friendly and welcomed us every day. I also loved being able to walk over to the shopping area for small items, and to walk to the beaches from the Marriott up through to the Hilton. Great workout -- with great scenery. My husband drove up to Kawaihae several mornings to dive with the Kohala Divers. They are the best! You can also snorkel off the boat if they have space, which I've done years in the past. We would highly recommend this place if you plan to visit the Big Island. The owners were terrific to work with, too!
This is the second time we have rented a 2/2 condo at this resort. Both times it was oceanfront and this last rental was 13D which was an end unit in the first building but located farthest from the pool. We used the lovely lanai morning and night and never heard noise from the pool or even the musicians playing. Our unit itself was top notch clean and beautifully furnished and comfortable. I loved the stocked laundry detergent, kitchen dishwasher/dish soap, even had shampoo. Lots of towels including beach towels. Plus we used the snorkel gear and beach chairs. Just a wonderful unit. The grounds are beautiful and being next door to the Hilton property well let's just say you can also wander over there as well. The HK pool is smaller but arranged nicely. Not set up for swimming laps however. The bar/restaurant is good and reasonably priced. The on site gym is small but what's not to love about working out looking out to the ocean? Come January if you're lucky enough to be here you can see whales.Only one day did we have obnoxious females at the pool. I complained when we left and was told all they need is for SOMEONE to complain before they will approach the offending party. So do it right away is my suggestion. What should have been a lovely afternoon reading by the pool was upset by screaming drunk adult women old enough to know better but not caring!
The resort itself is beautiful, however this unit 19c is in horrible shape. The carpet is filthy dirty with stains, the walls have nicks, gouges and black smears over the entire unit. The living room couch is completely worn out and is very uncomfortable to sit on. The master bed is also completely worn out. I complained to the front desk but never heard back from them. Do not stay in this unit, insist on a different unit.
We stayed in 14C - it was fantastic! It's a great resort, close to everything. The condo had everything you could want. I highly recommend this condo. The owner was so very helpful during the booking, and made sure we were in and settled. Amazing trip!
