Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel
- What's Included
I just returned home from an amazing stay at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Yes it is under construction. But it wasn't a surprise to me as I do my research. This is also not my first time at this resort so I knew what I was coming in for ...... the beach. It's the most beautiful beach on this island. If your looking to come here and be pampered this is not the place for you while under construction as most food and amenities are not available. I would recommend a rental car and do some exploring of the island and search for some restaurants. The staff at this hotel was amazing and I feel bad because I know they are having a hard time dealing with some not so pleasant and happy guests as if it was their fault that the hotel is under construction. Personally I thought the rooms needed a little love but the rest of the resort was always to my satisfaction. If you go in with a good attitude you will have a excellent time.
We had booked this hotel on August 6, via Expedia for travel on Nov. 4-12. Upon arrival at the hotel as scheduled, and after a 6-hour flight, the hotel receptionist informed us that the hotel was undergoing some major renovations / construction work, and did offer us the option of a full refund. I guess that was "nice", except that we had booked our vacation and now had to deal with it on our own! The receptionist blamed Expedia for not informing us of the construction work, and mentionned that the construction was posted on the hotel website. It certainly is now, but it was not when we booked it 3 months ago! After a bit of arguing, we got the hotel to not charge us the $30 daily resort fee (no kidding, given that the swimming pool was completely closed off, that the restaurants were also closed, and that the view from our room later turned out to be a construction war zone). After we asked, the receptionist said she would give us a room upgrade two days later so we took the "deal" and our room key. Walking to our room, there were no other guests in sight. We spent the next two hours on the phone with Expedia to find another hotel. Unlike what the hotel receptionist had told us, Expedia said they had never been informed of the construction work at the hotel, and kindly gave us a full refund and the alternative to go to the nearby Marriott hotel, which we did. That turned out to be a much better choice in every way. The Marriott was also in a much better location with shops and restaurants. All in all, we were disappointed in how the Hapuna Beach "Prince" hotel handled this situation. The hotel has so much construction work that it should not even be opened for business. It is not worth staying there, and ruin your vacation. The staff at the hotel also did not help us at all finding us an alternative, even though they have a sister property hotel a few miles away which was supposedly "booked". The "booked" sister hotel was priced a lot higher and had availabilities online... Anyway, we walked out, and managed to save our vacations, no thanks to Hapuna Beach Hotel.
I can’t believe they are still charging the rates they do with so little of this hotel available..... completely under renovations..access to the pool through multiple floors and elevators..minimal food, doesn’t feel like they are even trying to make this right... still charged a resort fe Despite the disaster.. had I known I would have changed... very disappointed
They were undergoing major construction and we were very worried about it when we checked in. Fortunately the front desk staff were very accommodating and allowed us to stay at the oceanfront building at the very end of the resort with a small additional fee. We never heard the construction noise and our room was on the 1st floor, we had an amazing ocean view. Beautiful beach in front of the building. We had a great time snorkeling at the beach in front of our room. I took 1 star because the food wasn't very good and our room looked old and outdated. They had nice linens and view of the room made up for it. I am looking forward to going back there once the renovation is done. I can't wait to see the main lobby!
My husband and I were married here 10 years ago, so despite being clearly informed (on their website) that the hotel is currently under construction, we still decided to return for our 10th wedding anniversary and for the most part, we are glad that we did. The staff is super - from Millie at the desk (who could teach the people are Disney a thing or two about being friendly and still competent) to our waitress at Hau Tree to the guy who shuttled us to the partner hotel, everyone was friendly and great at their job. The beach is beautiful - one of the best on the island, so the view is fantastic (and if an ocean front room is out of your budget, don't worry, there are a number of public places where you can grab a chair and enjoy the sunset). Food ... see my review of Hau Tree (in short, location location location, food a wee bit disappointing but not bad).
