Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel
- What's Included
Stayed here two nights. Absolutely beautiful resort and beach! The beds were comfy and staff members were very nice. The only downside is that the hotel is somewhat isolated. If you are looking for a luxury resort this is a great choice!
To those with no children, or just traveling without them, this place is perfect. It's a large property, and not very many little ones around. Let's face it, sometimes it's better to not bring them. This hotel is occupied mostly by elderly visitors who enjoy golfing. The beach views are incredible and the pool is extensive. I am enjoying this hotel so much more than the Royal Kona (where I stayed the last time I visited). The breakfast buffet here is also very good. I would recommend this hotel to a friend, but you should be in good shape. There's a lot of walking at this place!
The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel has a beautiful setting. Most impressive are the landscaping and the view/architecture of the main building/lobby. The beach is beautiful and clean, and the adjacent reef is full of great marine life for snorkeling. Housekeeping staff was absolutely wonderful, hard-working and courteous. Front desk staff, however, seemed constantly irritated and distracted. However, the price is exorbitant and we felt nickel-and-dimed throughout our stay. There is a mandatory $32+ per day "resort fee" that includes nothing any other hotel would include standard, especially at this price point, i.e. bottled water, coffee, wifi, 10% off for overpriced spa. When housekeeping had not yet visited our room, we were asked to pay $5/bottle for water. (The tap water is very unpleasant.) It's just not something you expect from a hotel where the posted rate for the least expensive room is $525/night. One small cup of coffee and two yogurts from the hotel's cafe were somehow over $12. Two burgers and two beers for lunch at the Beach Bar were over $75 after gratuity. Unfortunately, though, you don't have other food options at this location. The nearest cafe/restaurant unaffiliated with the hotel will be 20+ minutes by car.Additionally, the rooms are very outdated. Our "Deluxe Ocean View" room had a stained bathtub and chipped mirror, the closet lights flickered constantly, and by the most generous standards we had a partial ocean view.Pretty disappointed for such an expensive stay.
We typically stay at Mauna Kea, but this time we decided to stay at Hapuna Beach Resort and could not have made a better choice. The two resorts are very similar - restaurants, beach, but the difference for us was the pool and the size of the rooms. Hapuna is spread out and you do get a lot of walking in, but the resort is well maintained, friendly staff and an excellent beach to pass the time. We ate onsite a few nights and the food was on par with going off site...when we did, it was either Red Water Cafe or Merriman's (both highly recommended, expensive, but well worth it). The rooms are large enough for guests, the breakfast has enough choices for everyone and though there is not a lot of nightlife, the pool restaurant does have nightly entertainment which was great to listen while watching the amazing sunset. We are going to come back and stay here again after the refurbish - it does need some updating - but if you want to relax, enjoy the Big Island in at a nice resort - Hapuna Beach should be on your list to consider.
The Hapuna Hotel has an amazing beach - one of the best on the Big Island. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and have large bathrooms. The price point is good compared to other hotels with a lesser beach. Only criticism: the carpet in our room was worn and stained. Overall - the room was clean - just the carpet needed to be replaced. Beautiful location and lovely Aloha spirit.
