Kanaloa At Kona
- What's Included
We stayed in a two bedroom unit which was quiet, clean, comfortable with well-stocked kitchen and large living areas and a very private balcony. The reception office isn't onsite and we had a late check in due to a flight delay. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the unit was hard to locate as they are not numbered consecutively, a map of the property in the on site office-not staffed- would have been helpful. A welcome morning tea with local knowledge of things to see and do was a nice touch. There is quite a good shopping centre close, but driving distance with some nice restaurants, you need a car to stay here. It's about 40 mins from Kona airport. Nice pool areas and it was close to most attractions up and down the Kona coast.
Beautiful place, two bedrooms with a huge loft, three bathrooms, comfortable, clean, safe. Two nice balconies. Close to beautiful beaches (Kahaluu - good snorkelling, Magic Sands- good for playing in the waves along turtles) very good location. Will recommend to friends.
I stayed at the property march 5th through March 9th and had to cut my stay one night short due to the circumstances I will describe below. The issues were as follows:• No front desk service most of the time (I dropped off the keys at the security booth due to lack of a front desk agent at 7:30AM – no one was there to address my issues);• There were small lizards in the apartment;• The air conditioning unit was not working properly;• The Wi-Fi password was missing one letter – I had to guess it;• There were mosquitoes inside due to a crack in one of the walls.• Leaf blowers were used early in the morning hours.Since the hotel could not provide reasonable care and skill I asked for my money back. They refused to reimburse me. Don't ever stay there!!!
Pros: great location near ocean and bay harbor and large shopping center, oceanside pool and hot tub, very clean and spacious 2BR unit (3009) with washer and dryer. Cons: no beach access from the complex (pretty common issue on this island due to lava), at check in we were told A/C would incur additional fee of $25/day. We didn't need it in March but are frequent renters of vacation units and have NEVER heard of such a deceptive practice. The spas were so overly-chlorinated that it stung our eyes and skin within a few minutes of use. Wifi in the unit was spotty and went out for a few hours at least once. As others alluded to, the unit was very outdated, circa 1980's with a lot of raw, exposed (unfinished) wood in the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry plus, unlike many owner-rented units, it was not well-stocked with necessities. It has basic cookware and dining supplies but be ready to purchase tin foil, food storage (baggies or plastic containers) and even more toilet paper if you are staying more than a couple of days. One would think they would stock according to the length of stay but apparently not. If you are looking for a decent place in a good, quiet, convenient location near the ocean and are not too picky about updated decor or high end amenities, it's a good fit.
This is a lovely property with multiples swimming pools, great views over the ocean and golf course and spacious accommodation. We had 3 balconies on our 2 bedroom unit, lots of kitchen and living room space and it was bright and airy. I'd go back again or recommend it to friends. It's on the low key end of Kona away from the center but the shopping center on the corner had 4 restaurants that we tried and all were good; the Kenichi Pacific was excellent. There were some issues, however. For one thing, although I saw some pictures of stairs in other reviews I really didn't get how many stairs there were. The units vary but ours was actually on the third and fourth floors of our building - a LOT of stairs to carry luggage and supplies up.Also - no one answers the phone at the office or maintenance between 5PM and 8AM - and if you ask for anything after 4:30 you're told it's too late. Because we had better things to do on Hawaii than wait to speak to the office it took us 2 days to get the wifi connected and the TV was out for 3 nights. One other thing to be aware of is that there is an additional cost for air conditioning. When we first arrived, after climbing all those stairs several times into a unit that had been shut up and was hot and stuffy we thought that was outrageous but we were ready to pay anyway. Fortunately it was too late for them to turn it on at that point because we really didn't need it. There's plenty of air flow in those units, lots of fans and we were fine
