Kanaloa At Kona
- What's Included
The condo was beautiful. We booked through Outrigger. You can also book through Castle. The Outrigger check-in is up the hill in the mall complex. The Castle check-in is in the condo complex. The Good: The condo was beautiful and spacious. Our condo had ocean views - which were a treat. We enjoyed eating dinner on the lanai. There were 2 downstairs bedrooms and an upstairs loft with a full-size bed. All beds were comfortable. Pillows were adequate. The kitchen was well-equipped. Ours had 3 bathrooms -- all of them were beautiful. The condo is close to a grocery store and small mall complex. Check in and check out were easy. The personnel we dealt with were wonderful to work with. There are 3 pools on property. One is ocean front. My kids enjoyed the pools. There was laundry equipment in the condo - which was handy. The condo was extremely clean - which we appreciated! To Note: Our condo did not have air conditioning and the first 2 days, the condo was sweltering I understand that August is very hot... and maybe it is not needed all the time. But if you are considering a condo in August, you should note this if the heat bothers you. There were a number of fans in the condo. Also there were some maintenance things -- such as trim missing in one spot, toilet that ran, etc... but those didn't bother us excessively. Last to note - if stairs bother you, make sure to ask about stairs. Our condo had a flight of stairs before you reached the main level. This was not at all a problem for us, but we've traveled with my parents, and it would have been a problem for them. Overall, the condo was beautiful. We appreciated the ocean views and the space.
We stayed at Kanaloa at Kona for 2 nights in June. I booked directly through the Outrigger website and had great communication with the staff before our trip. I'm a little torn on how to review this, but I'll start with the good - - The location was perfect for us. 15-ish minutes south of the busy part of Ali'i Dr, yet close enough to the coffee farms and other things on our list in south Kailua Kona. - The units are large and spacious. We had a 2 bedroom + loft unit with 2 full baths and a washer and dryer. Perfect for family travel! - The grounds were extremely well kept. There was no litter, landscaping was beautiful, the vibe of the property was quiet and family oriented. - THE VIEWS! We booked an ocean front villa, and oh my goodness, it was AMAZING. My 12 year old listed that view of one of his favorite parts of the trip! The less good? - the interior of the units, or at least our particular unit, was quite dated. A bit reminiscent of the Golden Girls. That being said, the kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfy, and while it feels like a nit-picky complaint, I did expect a lot better for the price I was paying. - the exterior walls are dreadfully thin. Luckily the grounds are quiet, but I did wake up one morning to hear a woman on a cell phone and listened to her entire conversation word for word. (Don't worry, her son was putting the laundry in like she asked.) - You're charged $30 per day for air conditioning. I know, I know, we didn't have to use it. But it was 84 degrees in that condo. We tried opening the windows, but it just wasn't cooling down. Plus we're from Iowa, we're used to being cold. - The washer in our unit didn't work properly, and maintenance was closed after 4pm. Luckily my husband is handy and got it to work more or less, but both the washer and dryer needed replaced. Likewise, the master toilet ran all night long. Nothing major, the unit just needed some love. - the check in process was a pain. You need to check in at the Royal Sea Cliff, 15 minutes north of the Kanaloa. Since we were coming from the south, this added an additional 30 minutes in the car, plus the rather long check in process. Again, not a huge deal, just kind of a pain in practice. All of that being said, yes, I would stay here again. We did enjoy it, it was comfortable, the staff we interacted with was very nice, and the view of the ocean front villas and the resulting Kona sunsets can not be beat!!
We took our family on a 3 week vacation and stayed at a condo at Kanaloa at Kona. We had a great time! Our condo setting looked out on a snorkel cove where our kids went out several times. It's a bit rocky so one needs to be careful. It's not far from other areas to snorkel too. The grounds are kept immaculate and also the 3 pools. One pool is adults only and that's the one we used most of the time. But the other two are great too. The Keauahou Shopping Center is just a bit up the road with a nice grocery store and Longs drugs. Plus several great restaurants. Unless you don't mind sweating it out, I would suggest getting a unit with air conditioning because it was pretty hot and humid in June. We paid $300 extra for AC and it was well worth it! The people next to us were suffering! It would probably be ok October - April.
This condo was very nice, clean, spacious and comfortable. There is a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and balcony. It was well maintained and employees responsive to any needs or requests. There were pools, but we didn't have time to try out. We booked through Expedia so there were a few things that I wish were different. -- There was an extra $200 charge for cleaning (after we left), 2 days of ac, and tax.-- The fans and internet didn't work but turned out they were unplugged with outlets behind furniture that we had to move to plug in.-- The bedroom was not on the ocean side so we didn't have the cool ocean breeze for sleeping which is why we decided to get ac after the first night.Specifc good things-- Close to airport and beaches-- Secure area-- Good key system-- Labeled parking spot-- Balcony with great ocean view
We had a 2 bedroom condo for 6 nights. It was huge. 2 bathrooms, 3 balconies, full kitchen and all the amenities you would need.An undercover car park was included.I was pleasantly surprised to see all the things that were included. Shampoo, soap, body lotions and even complimentary laundry powder. There were tennis rackets and balls available as well.We checked in and out at the Royal Seacliff further down the road and this was no problem at all as you have to pass it on the way from the airport anyway. We certainly didn't need air-con as there were plenty of ceiling fans (including outside on the balcony). There were alot of stairs to our apartment but that didn't bother us.There are ground level apartments so If they are needed I would imagine it would be easy enough to specify at time of booking. We were made fully aware of the cleaning fee so no problems there for us. The cost was offset by not paying hotel or resort prices. The Kanaloa is a great place to base yourself for a Big Island holiday and I would definitely stay here again.
