Our room at Kanaloa was lovely. The Lanai looked right out onto the ocean. It was very clean, the kitchen was well-stocked and the staff was friendly. If you arrive after business hours, be sure to have the phone number with you so you can let them know you are there (choose the option for Security and someone will come and take you to your room). There was no sign in the lobby telling you what to do or with a phone number. Other than that, our visit was wonderful.
Gosh Condo 3502 totally exceeded our expectations. We stayed there for 2 weeks to watch the Iron Man and was so happy in this condo. It has a lovely entrance and for a 1 bedroom it was very spacious indeed. Loved the extra day bed, beautiful space and myself and hubby where able to have a bathroom each, wonderful. This condo simply provided everything we could need and more, lots of little extras including stuff in the food cupboards and toiletries too! The owners really had thought of everything (a brand new duvet cover for example!) The most amazing thing about this condo though was the view - total stunning and beautiful, very relaxing and peaceful, we spent hours just looking at the sea. The decor is quite Hawaiian, a nice change for us as we tend to go uber modern, not as flowery as some condos though! Lovely big comfy bed. Although there is no air con, it didn't feel sticky as the fans did a great job even though it was 33 degrees and very hot and humid out.Beautiful lush grounds, very green, maintained and well kept. Totally loved the adults only pool (there are 3 to choose from) beautiful and classy looking little pool with lovely hot whirlpool! Lots of places to run outside the resort, we ran alongside the Iron Men in the lead up, so it made the running a little more fun! TIP - Make sure you pick up your Aloha Privileges Card from the Club Wyndham representative (lovely helpful lady) as soon as you arrive as it has lots of excellent discounts for restaurants and places in Kona. Stuff we enjoyed:Hired a car and went to the Volcano, lava was out when we arrived too, a lovely jungle and a trip through the cave made this an interesting day out. Sheraton Hotel (about 2km from the resort) - about £50 each for a 25 minute massage (25% off using the Wyndham card made this massage pretty competitive) we had it outside so we could hear the sea! Free hot drinks, salt room and the steam made this a lovely spa morning (rather than just a little massage), excellent service too.Manta Rays at night - 77 dollars each, unique experience, loved it!Drive out to Hawi - very unusual little town, quirky and looked like something out of the wild west (the iron man bike route turns here).Harbor - worth a visit as tons of sea turtles down there to photographSwimming - I did two, you can swim directly outside the resort, its very shallow waters, TIP - take beach shoes though as it is painful getting in. In Kona the Iron Man swim is mapped out the week before, including a coffee boat, well worth getting there early (they have a bag drop) and doing it with the other IM.Cinema - 1km walk from the resort (at the shopping center)Yummy Thai restaurant in the shopping center too (good for vegetarians)In Kona - we ate in Bubba Shrimp (quirky and excellent service) and Huggos on the rocks (relaxed and lovely views).TIP - If you go down to the beach in Kona at about 5;30-6 ish you can get some great sun set photosWarning - restaurants close very early in Kona, most at about 9pm!!!Walmart is worth a shopping trip - massive choice!IM Tip - you can get a good view of the IM swim if you get there early on the morning, we got there at 4:30 am.Absolutely loved this condo, the resort, the lush green grounds and the weather (hot), the view really is splendid, total wow factor!
Lovely large condo with everything we needed. So much room, helpful attentive staff. Lovely ocean view. Great place to stay if going for the Hawaii Ironman. 10 km from downtown Kona. 2 km walk to a smirking beach full of turtles.
Second time here, but first since Castle Resorts and Hotels took over. Castle has improved the organization with better information, faster service if problems and the grounds are beautiful. We had 2 bedrooms, a large loft, and 2 baths. It was very clean, no bugs and well supplied with towels, sheets and kitchen utensils.Sadly no air conditioning, although I think available if we asked. Lots of ceiling fans so it was not that hot (we went in October) Furniture was comfortable and there was lots of room for people to hang out. Our ice maker was leaking and it was promptly attended to with the option of moving offered. There is a maid service offered. You definitely need a car to get around as it is on the south end of town, with a 10 minute drive to centre town. There is a designated parking spot for you which is covered. There is a big shopping centre 2 blocks away with everything you need including a 4 screen movie theatre!Wifi was good and solid, Cable TV.For the price it was very good, my wife says great, and we would definitely go again.
I'll start with the positive.Large rooms, close to the ocean.Nice grounds and pool. The bad.Our room stunk. Sign at the door said please take shoes off and the kids asked if that was to protect floor from shoes or our shoes from the carpet. I thought they were joking but it was a fair question.I hate being nickel and dimed and they wanted 25 a day for air conditioning.Few of the power outlets didn't work.Thought the hot water was out it took that long to warm up. FIrst time one kid had a cold shower it took that long and we didn't know it took that time. Seems a huge waste of water.Location by the sea is nice, but you can't swim anywhere. Also need a car as there is nothing for food anywhere near walking distance.Decor looked like it was from a leftover sale from the 70's. Wife labelled it the Brady Bunch kitchen.Didn't seem that clean, as I read this to the family to make sure it was fair they pointed out that there were blood stains on a blanket. Before this we had stayed at one of the Outrigger joints and we liked it. If we had only stayed at this one we would never stay at another Outrigger again. This place really left a bad impression with us of Outrigger.Would never stay here again, and now instead of booking with Outrigger in future we will carefully look about.
