Outrigger Fairway Villas
- What's Included
Decent and convenient place to stay when in the Kohala/Kona area of the Big Island. It's a gated property a short sand wedge away from both the King's Shops and Queen's Marketplace of Waikoloa Resort. So it's close to a lot of conveniences including shopping, dining, other hotels, gas, etc. This place is also a timeshare rental which means units can vary but the couple of times we've stayed there we've been pretty fortunate. Decent furnishings and nice fairway views (hence the name). I'd recommend staying here given the convenient location.
We rented a large Fairway Villas condo and shared it with another couple and their daughter. It was extremely comfortable for 5 people and could have easily accommodated 6. We had a master bedroom with a king bed and a bathroom with double sinks, bathtub, separate shower, walk-in closet, and private toilet area. Our friends had the 2nd bedroom with a queen size bed and large mirrored closet. Just outside their bedroom was a full bath. A spiral staircase went to the loft where their daughter slept on one of two twin beds. The loft is quite roomy and looks over to the living room below. The unit also has a full kitchen and bar area. There is a washer and dryer, along with a pantry area. Adjacent is a dining room with a table that seats six. A nice living room with a sofa, love-seat, and extra chair. The condo is close to the pool area and where the six large gas barbecues are situated. Looking out to the pool and barbecues is also a very nice gym which opens up to the outside so one can enjoy the tropical breeze. We could be at the beach in 10 minutes or shopping in 5. The location could not be beat. We went from one end of the island to the other and enjoyed all the sights and flavors that we could pack into a glorious three week vacation. We will be back again and again to the Big Island! Aloha!!
This is our third trip to Hawaii - first time to the Big Island. We booked this villa through Costco and were very excited to have new experiences. We travelled with my mother, my husband and I and our three children, 13, 12 and 8. 1) There is no house keeping unless you want to pay $95 USD per time. 2) We had to call two days in a row to try to get more laundry soap. 3) There are small bugs all over the counter. 4) The pool is not heated and is very cold. 5) If you have children under the age of 12, do not even think of taking them NEAR the hot tub. It was a huge disappointment to take my children to the pool area only to have someone literally guarding the pool area and told my older two could use the hot tub but not my 8 year old daughter. One evening we visited the pool area and 2 older couples who apparently lived in the villas actually "guarded" the area and when my daughter went to the exterior steps of the hot tub to speak to my sons to tell them we were going to our room, they got snarky and threatened to assess a $100USD fine to us because she was standing on the steps because the sign posted says "children under the age of 12 are not allowed in or AROUND the hot tub". Then because I told them to relax, she wasn't hurting anything by standing on the steps outside the hot tub, I was told my children will grow up to be disrespectful just like me! I have been all over the world and stayed in upscale resorts and not once have I ever been told a child could not even stand on the exterior steps of a hot tub. This was not mentioned in the booking or checking in process, nor was it mentioned in any of the printed materials given to us at check in or the pool rules posted on the back of the villa doors. As a family vacation, a portion of the experience is the pool/spa for children and the fact that my children could not use the hot tub and were made to feel uncomfortable for even being there quite literally ruined a portion of our very expensive family vacation. I will NEVER recommend another Outrigger property and I will deter anyone from using this particular property. Renters beware, it is filled with condo owners who feel as though they are above you as a renter!
We rented two units for our family vacation to the Big Island. The 1 bedroom unit, B23 was nicely decorated and modern, the other unit N5 was outdated with tube TV's, plastic blinds on patio door that would fall off easily and bar stool chairs that the cushions were ripping. The pool, was cold and we found out after being threatened with a $100 fine, the kids under 12 are not allowed in the hot tub even if accompanied by an adult. We were not told this at the time of checkin, where the pamphlet we were given states children under 14 have to accompanied by an adult. When I questioned this I was told that the homeowners association changed the rule and there wasn't anything that could be done. We would have never booked these units if it was not a family friendly place to stay. It is not located in close proximity to anything other than a small shopping area. Plan on spending a lot of time driving if you stay here.
My family stayed in L4 which was a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom corner condo unit. We loved having the kitchen so we could prepare breakfast, lunch, and some dinners. We used the BBQ area a few times as well. Great location for our trips to Hilo and to the volcano. The gym is small but ok for being on vacation (1 treadmill, 1 spin bike, 1 seated bike, 1 elliptical, a few free weights, and one weight machine). The pool was nice but note the hottub is 12 years or older. We didn't have any kids with us but some people didn't like like rule (note: the condo owners voted on the rules). There is a pool attendant on weekends but only to make sure only condo guests are using the facilities (and not outside people).
