Outrigger Fairway Villas
- What's Included
We booked our stay thru Costco Travel and Outrigger. The complex is clean and well maintained on the outside. Our unit was clean but very basic in its furnishings. The kitchen has new appliances but the remainder of the unit could have been furnished from a garage sale. The TVs are a tube type in the bedroom and a 30 inch flat screen in the living room. The bed is good but should be a king not a queen size. There is very little dresser type storage in the bedroom. The bathroom is the open style with no doors except for the toilet. The shower is like 2x2 reminding me of an old cruise ship shower. You have the feeling that there are an excessive number of rules and regulations and fines associated with non-compliance. There are signs throughout the unit about what not to do and the consequences of failing to mind the rules. Then on top of that are the complex association's rules regarding the common areas like the pool, etc.. The location in Waikoloa is good within walking distance of shopping and beaches. We would probably.not stay here on a return visit.
I-5: It's a nice condo development but each unit is individually owned for a unique renters experience. This owner cuts every corner to provide a low end tourist experience. Rummage sale furnishings, broken appliances, crummy dinnerware, blah, blah, blah - even the toilet paper reflects the cheapest stuff you can find in North America. It's a great venue but be careful of which room you are assigned.
We stayed at the beginning of February. Our unit was nice 3bdr 3 bath, perfect for our family of 5, you could have fit 5 more people. I would not stay here again!! Here's why1. The people that stay or live here are not friendly at all, you will wave say hi and they will turn their heads the other way. Very stuck up.2. Its so far from everything. The Kings and Queens shops are expensive, and so are the few restaurants around there, especially the Island Gourmet Market. Go somewhere else to get groceries. Like Safeway in Kona3. The visitor parking spaces are very limited, some day's you can't even find a place to park.4. If you are a young and have a family, I would suggest you stay else where, its like a retirement community.5. $95.00 a day if you want housekeeping. Plus the cleaning fee you get charged with at the end of your stay is way too much. The pool had rules, if you were under 12 you could not use the hot tub or go any where near it. That rule didn't apply to us since we were all over 12. The pool was cold, but it still was ok, being it was 85 everyday. It is rather small for the size of the complex. There is a pool monitor on the weekends asking what unit you stay in and watching the kids. You can go over to the Hilton (or maybe you can't we just did) and use their pool and lagoon. We did that one day, that was nice. The beach is only a 10 minute walk, beach was nice always room and if you get lucky you can get a chair.
The pool is unheated and most days it's real cold, even for grown ups. Kids under 12 can't use the hot tub. So today we're having a tub in the condo because they didn't want to go in the pool, being to cold. It's a warm day, but really windy. If they had even a kids pool that was heated that would be great. There really strict on the hot tub rules also. As far as accommodations I would give it a 4/5. Nice place. But unfortunately we won't be back because of the pool.
Decent and convenient place to stay when in the Kohala/Kona area of the Big Island. It's a gated property a short sand wedge away from both the King's Shops and Queen's Marketplace of Waikoloa Resort. So it's close to a lot of conveniences including shopping, dining, other hotels, gas, etc. This place is also a timeshare rental which means units can vary but the couple of times we've stayed there we've been pretty fortunate. Decent furnishings and nice fairway views (hence the name). I'd recommend staying here given the convenient location.
