Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff
- What's Included
My family of 4 stayed at Royal Sea Cliff the first week of August 2017. We found the accommodations to be very comfortable and the staff to be helpful, courteous and professional. The sunset views off the back deck of our suite were one of the highlights of our trip. The beds were very comfortable and having a kitchen saved us from eating out every meal. We can't wait to come back again.
This was rated as a 4 to 4-1/4 resort. We were told we were renting an "Ocean Front 1 bedroom unit". Having called and verifying what an "Ocean Front one bedroom unit" was I made reservation and paid for the unit 11 months in advance. The unit was spacious and the air conditioner worked great. That is the only positive comment I will be making and attached photo's will prove my point. 1. Our unit was one level below the parking garage/lots. So the lowest on the site. Our "Ocean View" was the back of the bathhouse for one of the pools. If you stood on one edge of patio you could see between the bathhouse some shrubs, a 50' section of ocean. It you sat down in a chair you saw nothing but the back of the bathhouse and lawn between, and one Palm tree. 2. The unit was very dated, built 25+ years ago according to literature. Kitchen had newer counter top but bathroom was original. 3. Bed was so discussing my wife refused to sleep on it AND SLEPT ON THE COUCH!!! Sheets did not fit, old piece of foam stuffed between bottom fitted sheet (which wasn't the right size) and mattress and sticking out because it was too big. 4. Unit was damp and molding smelling and every day we would have to open all the door to air it out. The windows were so old and deteriorated that they would not open. 5. Every morning upon arising I would have to go around the kitchen picking up the "worms with legs" (i don't know what kind of critters they were) which had come in under the door, no thresh hold strip on bottom of door. 6. Mildew around baseboard on carpet in bedroom.Did I COMPLAIN? Absolutely, but the nice ladies at the main desk, smiled, shook their heads and said this was unit I was rented. They just worked there and there wasn't I thing I could do about it. I am attaching pictures but don't know if this review will get posted much less pictures. The travel agent, USAA who booked this for me wasn't any help either so I can only BUYER BEWARE! I am actually ashamed that I had to keep my wife in this for a week but we had paid and couldn't get out or money back even if we could have found another place to stay in peak season on Hawaii.
This is part of the Wyndham properties, so when I told my parents I wanted to visit Kona, my mom booked me a room here. I was suppose to have a one bedroom unit, but at check-in, I was upgraded to a two bedroom unit which they didn't have to do since it was only me. Unit 317 was toward the end of the property close to the ocean. Not that far from the elevator which helps with luggage. The unit was large! Lots of room to move around in even though it was just me. There's even a view of the ocean which you can see beautiful sunsets. I will agree that some updating is in order but my unit was comfortable and homey. There are some cosmetic things that can be done, but I didn't come to Kona to spend the day in my room looking for everything that's wrong. The AC did blow stronger in the living room area than the bedroom, but so I kept the door open. This room had everything I needed. Refridgerator, coffee maker, shower, and t.v. Lots of closet space! In-room safe as well! Nice lanai to sit on in the morning.I realized when I drove up that my parents and I stayed here a long time ago. The rooms are much better looking than that visit. The property is close enough to town but far enough away from all the hustle of the traffic. I walked into the village in the morning, and it's a nice walk. I would definitely stay here again. It's nice to know there's somewhere I can feel at home in.Mahalo!
My husband, our adult son, his fiancé, and myself stayed at the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff 6/23/17 - 6/27/17. It was wonderful having so much room! We had two bedrooms (good sized...master has a king bed, the other bedroom has twin beds), two bathrooms, a living room, fully stocked kitchen, and eating area. We were supplied with many towels (for bathing as well as the pool) and an initial stock of shampoo and soap, if needed. We also enjoyed the use of the (small) washer and dryer in the unit (we were supplied with some laundry detergent). What a life saver! There was a hair dryer in the master bathroom. A safe is in the master bedroom closet. There were floor fans in the closets, if you need one. We were ocean front - though not close to the ocean per say. But the view was beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on our balconies (we had two...one off our bedroom and another off the living room). Each morning, we enjoyed sipping our coffee on the bedroom balcony & at the end of the day we enjoyed a cold drink on the shared balcony. Both balconies are large and have furniture to sit on. Our first night, we took advantage of the pool and hot tub. There are two to choose from...we chose the quiet one. The pool is situated next to the beach, which was nice. Note...the beach is not sandy. In fact, it's all lava rocks. It took me a bit to get used to after spending a week on white sandy beach front in Waikiki. The resort was quiet. We parked under the resort in the parking garage. It was well lit & the elevators were quick. Restaurants and shops were not far from the resort. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked an excursion to hike to see the lava flow. It was booked via an Expedia rep at the resort...and the excursion did not disappoint. It was a 5 mile hike round trip, but well worth the view! What I did not like, though to be fair - I knew when I booked our stay - was the resort "cleaning fee." I've seen it before...but do not believe in charging a "cleaning fee." I cannot ding the resort on that since I was aware of it...I am just voicing my opinion on it. The reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 - The unit can use a bit of sprucing up. The master bathroom is dated. The rugs need to either be re stretched or replaced. The convenience of the washer and dryer was great; however, when the washer drained, it backed up a little in the master bathroom sink. We notified the office. The hot tub was nice to sit in (the nights got a little cool) however; it smelled like the water should have been refreshed. Overall the stay was very nice. Would I stay there again if in Kona? Yes...absolutely. It was very homey. :)
This is a timeshare and hotel combined. The views are great, especially at sunset. The have access to tide pools and it is a short drive to beaches, shops and food!! They also include some fun things like a hula show and some samples of Hawaiian cuisine! I would book them again in a heartbeat!
