Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff
- What's Included
Stayed for 3 nights with a family party, using 2 rooms. Large, well fitted out units. Loads of linen supplied. Rooms are not serviced daily. Dated furniture and fittings. Full kitchen facilities and washer and dryer. Located right on the beach however rocky shore line so not suitable to swim at. No restaurant/cafe/bar on site. Be prepared to trek into town for a cold beverage or a meal. Trolley available outside hotel or you can call a cab.....though not easy to get a cab! Concierge had no interest in helping me confirm transfers to Airport...."as it wasn't his job"....his service in particular was very disappointing. Beautiful gardens and choice of two pools is great. Lots of elderly residents....so if you are after some young company this is not the place for you. Wonderful place to stay if you are on the Island for a week or so and happy to self cater, but if you want a real "vacation" experience.....I would stay closer to town next time.
My husband and I were originally at the Outrigger Kanaloa, but it was horrible, so we were lucky enough to be re-located to this property. We were totally blown away by this place! Our condo (Unit 207) was soooo nice, comfortable, CLEAN and the view could not be beat. I loved that our unit had tile (no nasty carpet). The bathroom seemed brand new & central air was an added bonus. Kitchen utensils were also very nice. The property manager Carol and her team were so great, you could tell they really enjoyed their jobs. We loved it so much, we added two more nights on to our stay. Even though we weren't owners, we were invited to the Monday night party with a live Ukele player and delicious pupus made by the staff (props to whoever made those beans, WOW!)This complex has everything you need, as long as you don't need a restaurant, bar, or daily housekeeping. The layout of the complex was great and parking was free. I felt very safe here. I would definitely come back and stay again. It is close to town but not in the middle of the chaos and traffic of the main downtown. Be sure to visit the closet near the front desk that has all kinds of beach toys and mats you can borrow.
It's been a year since we stayed at the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff, but I'm sure that this review is still valid. The property is beautiful to look at, is spotlessly clean, and well maintained. There is a very nice covered car park at the condo's, which are nicely furnished, clean and well supplied with the amenities that one expects from a condo. It's about 2 miles from the start of Alii Drive next to the wharf and King Kamehameha Hotel, which almost guarantees a quiet night of sleep. Overall, this is a very good place to spend a couple of weeks, with a location and overall experience that is very good value for the money.
We went to the Royal Sea Cliff last summer for our second time. The place is well situated and very reasonable in terms of pricing. The rooms seem to be independently owned but probably must respect certain standards. The hotel itself is beautiful in its design with the center being adorned with beautiful plants and flowers. Like the last time, our room was fabulous, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, large dining area with living room and a nice lanai. In terms of amenities, the resort had a nice pool beside the ocean, three BBQ that guests could use, lots of parking, ping pong table and more. It is located within short driving distance from the Kona outdoor market (which by the way is one of the best places for fruits and veggies at reasonable prices). The resort hosted multiple events during our stay and served appetizers, welcome reception, July 4th reception, and a demonstration on Hawaiian dances. Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay if you are around Kona. It was as lovely as we remembered it to be. We will be looking to return the next time we are on big island.
We arrived late, about 10:10 due to our flight schedule, and the staff had gone home at 10:00. They left our keys with the cleaning crew and we got the dreaded room 509 mentioned in earlier rooms to avoid at all costs. We tried to change rooms but again, there was no staff. The room smelled bad, carpets stained, old furniture, outlets that didn't work, you name it. We stayed there because of the late hour and was at the front desk at 6:00 AM to lodge a complaint. The staff was very understanding and asked us to come back after the day's check outs had been cleaned. They gave us several keys and let us tour the rooms and pick out the one we wanted. We ended up in a beautiful room, and they threw in a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine. They waived the charge for the first night, adjusted the cleaning fee and gave us an extra-late checkout on our last day. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The sunset view from here was excellent. If you want to set up a base camp this is a good location, but knowing what we know now of the Big Island we'll move our lodging from place to place next time to avoid the long drives to the top, bottom or other side of the island. Close (if you're into long walks) to lots of shops, restaurants, bars and beaches but we recommend a rental car. Overall we enjoyed our stay here...and you can't beat the price.
