Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff
- What's Included
My husband, our adult son, his fiancé, and myself stayed at the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff 6/23/17 - 6/27/17. It was wonderful having so much room! We had two bedrooms (good sized...master has a king bed, the other bedroom has twin beds), two bathrooms, a living room, fully stocked kitchen, and eating area. We were supplied with many towels (for bathing as well as the pool) and an initial stock of shampoo and soap, if needed. We also enjoyed the use of the (small) washer and dryer in the unit (we were supplied with some laundry detergent). What a life saver! There was a hair dryer in the master bathroom. A safe is in the master bedroom closet. There were floor fans in the closets, if you need one. We were ocean front - though not close to the ocean per say. But the view was beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on our balconies (we had two...one off our bedroom and another off the living room). Each morning, we enjoyed sipping our coffee on the bedroom balcony & at the end of the day we enjoyed a cold drink on the shared balcony. Both balconies are large and have furniture to sit on. Our first night, we took advantage of the pool and hot tub. There are two to choose from...we chose the quiet one. The pool is situated next to the beach, which was nice. Note...the beach is not sandy. In fact, it's all lava rocks. It took me a bit to get used to after spending a week on white sandy beach front in Waikiki. The resort was quiet. We parked under the resort in the parking garage. It was well lit & the elevators were quick. Restaurants and shops were not far from the resort. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked an excursion to hike to see the lava flow. It was booked via an Expedia rep at the resort...and the excursion did not disappoint. It was a 5 mile hike round trip, but well worth the view! What I did not like, though to be fair - I knew when I booked our stay - was the resort "cleaning fee." I've seen it before...but do not believe in charging a "cleaning fee." I cannot ding the resort on that since I was aware of it...I am just voicing my opinion on it. The reason I gave 4 stars vs 5 - The unit can use a bit of sprucing up. The master bathroom is dated. The rugs need to either be re stretched or replaced. The convenience of the washer and dryer was great; however, when the washer drained, it backed up a little in the master bathroom sink. We notified the office. The hot tub was nice to sit in (the nights got a little cool) however; it smelled like the water should have been refreshed. Overall the stay was very nice. Would I stay there again if in Kona? Yes...absolutely. It was very homey. :)
This is a timeshare and hotel combined. The views are great, especially at sunset. The have access to tide pools and it is a short drive to beaches, shops and food!! They also include some fun things like a hula show and some samples of Hawaiian cuisine! I would book them again in a heartbeat!
Just back from a wonderful week stay at the Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff. Check in was easy and the staff was pleasant. We didn't participate in any of the daily sales events or the concierge. The grounds are immaculately maintained and parking was below the building, easy to access from our room. Our room had a wonderful ocean view from both the living and master decks. This unit was a 2 bedroom with a pull out couch and 2 baths. Although the unit is a little dated, everything was clean and well maintained. We had no issues with the AC as noted in many of the reviews. Bedding was comfortable and towels were fine. The cleaning fee is an aggravation ($195 for the 2 bedroom units) that should just be built into the cost. Location is central to Kona and the west coast of the island. All in all a very positive experience. I recommend booking by phone and requesting a unit that has positive reviews since the unit condition seems to vary widely by owner.
Sadly, this was by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I had the misfortune of staying here twice in the span of two weeks and both rooms were terrible.Instead of writing blocks of text, I'm going to do this with bullets:- Cockroaches in and outside of room- Water dripping from the ceiling onto my kids at night- Sinks smelled like sulfur (aka drains haven't been cleaned of hair in a long time)- TV in master bedroom was like 24" and looked ridiculous on the giant wall across from our bed- Odd 1970's style shower where the water just drains all over the bathroom- Carpet in the bathrooms, complete with mold (since when do bathrooms have carpet? I thought that went out of style in the late 1980s..?)- Furnishings and decor were so 1980s- Charged for extra towels- WiFi was really slow- Some sort of cockroach egg capsule or rodent feces in pull-out bed- A/C shut off when card was removed from slot near front door. Again, out-dated and made returning to room very uncomfortable because of how hot it became- Rooms we stayed in did not have consistent amenities (e.g., one room had fans, the other did not; one room had an ice maker, the other did not)- Value: unbelievably expensive for what you get. Perhaps it's the "suite" size that justifies the price, but I'd counter that renting a house on other providers (aka the one that starts with Air) would be a much better way to enjoy KonaI'm probably leaving some things out, as I just did this review as a stream of consciousness. I think you get the idea. Also, before you judge my review, please look back at the 90+ reviews I've done over the years. I tend to give mostly 4-5 stars because I usually use TripAdvisor beforehand. Not so in this case....
The unit is so big, with washer/ dryer inside. Great location too, it's so close to everything. A few steps away from the reefs. Must give it a try!! Frig has ice maker, two baths, dinning table out in the patio. FYI, the front desk are not welcoming. They will tell you, there's a map, there's one road. Don't bother asking them anything, just google it.
