OverviewLocated in Lake Buena Vista, close to the Walt Disney World® Resort and premium outlet mall. 26 km from Orlando airport.
My family stayed here for one week in October 2016. We decided about 5 weeks in advance to travel to Disney. As you can imagine most of the Disney hotels were sold out and some of the other available hotels at Disney and in Disney Springs were either sold out or priced too high for what we needed. So, we settled on the Best Western Lake Buena Vista.I booked our transfer from Orlando International to the hotel through Mears. Transportation. This also included the return trip to the airport. We arrived at the hotel at approximately noon. Unfortunately our room was not available. The front desk staff advised us that we could leave our luggage in a secure room which we did. We took what we needed in our backpacks and went to Magic Kingdom for the day.We eventually returned to the hotel and checked in at about 10pm without any issues. Our room was on the 10th floor. We paid for the upgrade to have a room with views of the fireworks from Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Our room was pretty clean, it had a new carpet and the beds appeared new as well. The beds were also rather comfortable. The bathroom was fairly clean however there was visible mold on the sink under the faucet. The thermostat in our room didn't seem to function properly. It was always very cold in the room. Our room was equipped with a safe but it did not work. I mentioned it to the front desk staff twice. Once they said they would have it fixed immedatley and that I wasn't required to be in the room and the other time I was told we needed to be in the room for the facilities personal to enter the room. In the end we made do without the safe and took our passports with us.We opted to eat breakfast at the various restaurants near the hotel. There is a Perkins, IHOP, Denny's, McDonald's and several other restaurants for all meals located within a 5-8 minute walk from the hotel. The restaurant at the hotel always appeared empty and we couldn't find a menu to review so we just opted out of trying it. There is also a 24 hour grocery and pharmacy store located in the plaza with the McDonald's. All of our lunch and dinner meals were at restaurants at the Disney parks or at Disney Springs. I should mention that Disney Springs Outdoor Shopping Center is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel and it is a great place to enjoy nightly entertainment, dining and shopping. The hotel has a pool. We did not use it as we were too busy. It did seem awkward to get to. I was told you needed to walk through the restaurant to access it. The buses that take you to all of the parks pick up and drop off in front of the hotel. The buses run every half hour. We found it very convenient. The bus for Typhoon Lagoon doesn't run all day like the buses to the other theme parks. All in all this hotel served its purpose. We just wanted a reasonable place to sleep at night. The hotel shows its age compared to some of the other area hotels but for the price and location we were happy.
I was very pleased by the attentive staff, convenient shuttle service to surrounding Disney areas, well-cleaned rooms, and various shops. I was able to find almost anything I needed or forgot at home within the hotel.
The hotel cleanliness and appearance were wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice the hotel and room were. Everything seemed recently updated and clean. The staff was the only downside of my stay. I felt that the person who checked me in was not very friendly. She was not rude but just didn't seem to care that I was there. Also, several times during my stay, there was a person standing out near the elevators monitoring the lobby. She never once greeted anyone nor did she smile or offer anyone any assistance. On the other hand, the employees in the restaurant and snack counter were very pleasant.
Good location on Hotel Blvd, about 15 min walk from Disney Springs and on all the shuttle routes, and less expensive than similar hotels in the area, so a good option for visiting Disney World for a family holiday or business.
Having stayed at this Best Western numerous times we have seen the quality of this hotel fluctuate from good to poor. Located on Hotel Plaza it is situated close to Disney Springs and the bus circulates between all the parks from the front door. Many times on certain days the base price is extremely enticing. There is a pool, but with all the times we have stayed here, I have used it but once. It is not as attractive as other hotel pools. You have to walk through a restaurant and bar area to find the pool. If you have children, you need to be aware that at one end of the pool it drops down to eight feet. We have encountered where the hot water was turned off an entire day. On our floor the ice machine did not work. This past time our room was not cleaned. We came back to the room after 3:00 PM and called the front desk. It wasn’t until 4:30 when the maid finally came. I told the maid to give us our daily supplies and forget about cleaning it as we were already situated. Nothing was ever mentioned by the front desk when we checked out. I don’t know if these problems are due to management or ownership.A big plus are the four elevators that move fairly quickly. If you come down about 9:00 AM, however, you may have to wait for an extended period of time due to the traffic. This is a rather large tower hotel. If you can swing it, obtain the side facing away from the street. The I-4 noise on the balcony is rather intense. The Disney view will cost you extra. We quickly noticed parking has changed where a $7 charge is levied against the bill. Parking was always free here and that was a neat quality about this hotel. No more. With the resort fee, taxes, no breakfast included and now the parking fee, you have to be aware of the total price when staying at this Best Western. There are other worthy hotels nearby. There are good people that work here like the man from Morocco at the front kiosk store. There are excellent waitresses that have been there for years. Previously, I had written a review about this Best Western and gave it a “Five.” Nevertheless, “Caveat Emptor” rules and I have to share with you issues we have encountered. If you found this review helpful in any way, please press “LIKE” to let me know.
