Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista
- What's Included
I was delighted to find a decent priced hotel with shuttle service to Disney. That was a savings of $20/day to the parks. Also lots of cheap eats close by. Would I stay again? Yes.Pros: Location, price, shuttle service to parks, pool was nice and warm, comfortable bedCons: our mini fridge didn't really work so our food and milk spoiled, eating at the bar and grill had a service charge and we waited forever to get our check, the decorative covering at the bottom of the bed smelled like feet, the splash pad was out of service, Even with the thermostat set at 68 the room was still warm ( it looked pretty old), the covering of the air conditioning unit fell off when touched.
I wanted my family to enjoy a lovely Easter Brunch. We had 8 in our party, which included some adults and some children. Picking the Clarion was a big mistake. The food quality was horrible. There wasn't much to choose from either. When you go to a buffet, you expect lots of good choices. The chocolate fondue wasn't working, so they just sat a bowl of chocolate on the table. It tasted like burnt chocolate. Dirty dishes was piled on a tray right next to our table. The best thing there were the jelly beans on the tables. I could go on and on, but I will let it go. Do not waste your money on their buffets. They have another one for Mother's Day. We will not be there!
My wife and i recently stayed here for 14 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel itself was clean and well staffed. The room we were given at first was on the ground floor facing the 1-4 Highway, i immediately asked for a room facing the car park as it would be quieter and the very helpful staff in reception sorted the problem straight away. The room was cleaned everyday and the aircon worked which was greatly needed. We weren't expecting the hotel to be the Ritz and it wasnt, but i would recommend anyone to stay here as it is a reasonable price and the location is very central to both Universal and Disney. Both swimming pools were always clean and never too busy.We ate breakfast in the hotel twice and it was slightly chaotic and not the best quality, but there is a Dennys and IHOP just down the road. We did not eat dinner in the hotel so cannot comment. The free shuttle buses were very unreliable and the times that are set are not really good at all. We used Uber everywhere and i cannot recommend them enough, about 1/3 the price of taxi.A special mention should go to J who worked behind the Bar on an evening. He was a great guy to chat to and we really enjoyed sitting and having a beer while relaxing. Overall i would definitely stay here again, and plan on doing so in a few years when we go back to Orlando.
So, this is a budget hotel, and as far as budget hotels go, the range of facilities available were good. The rooms were clean enough too. The pool was heated and towels were provided for pool guests. Rooms have a fridge, microwave and coffee facilities. There are also paid washing machines and drink dispensers on every floor. And that's where the good stuff ends. The staff at reception were unhelpful to say the least. Check in at this hotel is at 4. We arrived earlier than that because we came from another hotel with early check out. We were hoping that they would take our bags, or if they had a room, give us one or let us use the facilities while we waited or give us tips on other things we could do in the area. But no, the lady just said: check in at 4. Come back at 4. Not even a 'good morning!' We were a bit shocked by her unwelcoming and unkind manner. We had no idea what to do for the rest of the day- so we just used our gps to go to a mall nearby. (later, we learned of many other places we could have gone instead, but by then it was too late!) Upon our return at 4, I made a point of relating my negative experience to the deputy manager. She said that guest services dealt with activities-not them- have they told me upon check in, then I would have asked guest services. She said that she would take my comments on board. When we checked out- it was the same person with the same rude manner. We were not given a 'good morning' or 'how was your stay?' The deputy manager clearly did not use this opportunity to train her staff to be helpful. Having manners does not cost anything and it makes all the difference in the world. Also, the beds in the family room were tiny. The double beds were more like 3/4 size and the pillows were lumpy and some were the size of a cushion. We are members of this hotel group- but they never asked for our card- anyway, it doesn't matter now it will go in the bin. Clarion- you will never see us again.
Comfortable stay, had a good time.Pros: cheap buffet (kids eat free) with good food and selection, free Wi-Fi, rooms clean, nice pools (2) and towels (although noise of I4 road a few yards away is quite loud at the pool), parking outside door, able to walk to many restaurants, shops and mini golf nearby, easy to drive to parks, staff friendly, well stocked shop.Cons: rooms a bit small with minimal facility for food (microwave and fridge only, nothing like plates, knifes, cupboard), nowhere to dry wet swimming stuff, noisy tour buses stop with engine running for ages outside rooms. The only problem we had was that the cleaners disposed of some shopping that our kids had left under the desk next to a bin. Tipping is always weird for visitors not used to it, but even more so at the buffet: on top of the stated price is an included 14% service charge and then on paying, the staff ask you again to add a further tip, the minimum on the machine is 10%. No idea what to do. It's not like there is any service, it's a buffet... they don't even collect plates with any speed. The buffet didn't have an allergy list, so it seemed like guesswork to feed one of our party, but staff mostly worked it out and we managed.
