Delano Las Vegas
- What's Included
Beautiful large 2 bathroom suite was well appointed, immaculate and extremely comfortable. A friendly staff, greatLocation and a spectacular view from its rooftop lounge. Several pools for both adults and families to choose from, and well as great dining options within the Mandalay Bay complex which also to included a good casino smoking ventilation system.
We stay here (the Hotel, now Delano) every year during the college basketball tournament for the best access to the MB sports book. Last year we were kicked over to MB, so this was our first Delano experience. I really like the overall renovation of the lobby, bar and reception area. The ambiance was perfect, the occasional band was a nice touch, and the daily quotes made me smile. We had a king suite facing the strip - excellent views. The rooms as noted, were not completely gutted, leaving the bathroom areas relatively untouched, but I thought the the furnishings, carpet and wallpaper were really well done. My husband and I both really enjoyed the mattress - super comfortable. I also appreciated the mobile check-in; knowing my room number before even arriving at the hotel is a great touch. This was the first time I took advantage of the separate Delano Beach Club pool area as well. I really liked it. If you can forego the wave pool, the Delano pool has better chairs, dedicated service, and a much more relaxed, grown up atmosphere. I had my pick of chairs and never waited long for a drink. Highly recommend.Besides the steep nightly rates (I assume due to the basketball, IBM and Home Depot conferences??), my biggest complaint is that our shower had an unbearable piercing sound. I thought I heard the same coming from another room as well, so it might be a pervasive issue. Lastly, I saw a note that said no robes - I thought the same but then found them on the back of the bathroom door. If I could offer any tip to increase the luxury level of this hotel (and my star rating) it would be to improve the robes. They are not warm and comfy, but rather rough and scratchy. A soft robe could compensate for many a grievance.
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and the room was adequate, but the rooms have no space for your clothing. The only area is the closet for hanging clothes and no drawer space. We actually had to operate out of our suitcases. The rooms are what I would call minimalist rooms. Very little furniture, and small TV's. You can get a much better room for less other places.
We stayed at Delano four nights for a wedding. My wife had a comped (free) room and I rented a second room for our daughter. This was our fourth stay at Delano. We also stayed there several times when it was named “the Hotel.” Both the staff in the VIP Lounge and the staff at the front desk were pleasant and very helpful. We like the rooms at Delano because they actually have a bedroom and a living area separated by a wall and a door. Probably the best feature of the suite is that there is a separate bathroom accessible from the living area. The full bathroom attached to the bedroom is very nice with a large tub and separate shower. Our only complaint about the room is that there is limited storage area for clothing. We never use room service, but our daughter used it twice and said that the service was quick and the food was hot and tasty.Although the Mandalay Bay / Delano complex has numerous places to eat, I have only found a few that I would return to. Della’s Kitchen in Delano is open only for breakfast and lunch. We like breakfast there, but don’t care for the lunch options. We ate several times at Citizens, the 24 hour restaurant option. The food there is good, the service is quick, and the price is reasonable. On a previous trip, we ate at the Noodle Shop and found it to be good and reasonably priced. At my request, they prepared a dish for me that was not on their menu, with only a small price premium. We have tried both the buffet and the café a couple of times, and won’t be going back to either. On this trip, we tried Aureole and Border Grill. I found Aureole to be overpriced and had a limited menu, while Border Grill had a slightly more varied menu with more reasonable prices, but only two people from our group of twelve indicated that they thought the food was good.We will probably stay at Delano again, as we really like the suites and the staff. There are places to eat where the food is good and reasonably priced, so we will just avoid the overpriced restaurants.
I was just in town for a conference and stayed at the Delano for convenience purposes. I had heard it was recently redone so was very excited! When I arrived my first impression was great lobby and very nice room. HOWEVER, there are some major downfalls and concessions you need to be willing to make while staying here:1. INTERNET - Because the Delano is located so close to the convention center I can imagine they have a lot of guests there for business purposes. I think I got their internet to work for a total of 15 minutes the entire week. The WIFI was continuously off and wouldn't connect to my computer nor phone. I had to go over to the Mandalay side to be able to get work done.Very inconvenient for their business guests.2. Water Quality - I travel a lot for business and without a doubt this hotel has the poorest water quality I've ever seen. Immediately after showering everything feels dry and rough. The water is either scalding or freezing, I had the shower on the coldest setting and almost got burned, and then when I turned it up it started to get freezing. The same for hand washing and teeth brushing. The shower head also had a lot of soap scum and was dirty.3. NOISE - someone sneezes in the room next to you and you hear it. The elevator dings from down the hall, and you hear it. Someone takes a shower and you hear the water flowing through the pipes. For someone who was there for work and rising early/sleeping early, this was very inconvenient.Lastly, because of their "mobile check-in" I spent my entire stay without interacting with ONE employee from the hotel. I will likely look into other options for my future conferences.A good tip if you do stay here - have the green pastures juice from the cafe in the lobby!
