Delano Las Vegas
- What's Included
There are many types of hotels from budget to 5 Star and this one falls into the class of what I call modern posh garbage. Professionalism and the proper way of deal with guests don't seem to transpire here. We all except to receive the level of service in which an establishment projects its self and unfortunately the Delano falls short if not on its faceWith the choices available in Las Vegas at this price point one can experience a lot more from a truly dedicated staff who both projects professionalism and backs it up with the actions required to ensure a positive guest experience
Had a suite; a very nice room with stylish yet comfortable modern decor. Great bathroom with marble and a huge tub, but oddly no bath robes or slippers.Of course, and unfortunately, this hotel utilizes the typical newer Las Vegas policy of imposing a mandatory "resort fee" on top of their published rates. The added 'report benefits' -- none; not even a newspaper in the morning. Simply a way for them to charge you $39 more than what their website rates state. Yes, they are not alone in this policy in town; I wish all the hotels would stop this and just be honest about what they are charging you.We used the valet parking. Decent timing on service. This did allow us to visit/park at other MGM properties for free.
All room are suites. They include the bedroom plus a living room and two bathrooms. The last 3 times I've come to Vegas I've stayed here because of the great deal with Amex. It's part of Mandalay Bay and connects to the Luxor and Excalibur. There is a tram. Far from the Strip. Doggy friendly.
Very nice and clean hotel for business purposes. If you're looking to stay where to play, this is not the place for you. But if you want a quiet business hotel close to, but not in the center of, the main parts of Las Vegas Blvd, this is it. I recommend to get an upgrade to a mini suite, extended stay style, for the greater comfort.
We recently stayed at Delano November 24-28 in a Two Bedroom Suite.Hotel: Facilities are very tranquil, which was a great oasis from the hectic Las Vegas strip and the partying atmosphere that accompanies the strip. In case you've never been, Delano is a non-smoking hotel that is connected directly to Mandalay Bay. From Mandalay Bay, you have access by indoor walking or a tram to Luxor and Excalibur.Location: This depends on your priorities. Mandalay Bay and Delano are the far south end of the strip, so most of the action is farther north. However, on a stop at Bellagio and Caesars while on this trip, the crowds were enormous to the point that I think I preferred having to travel to some places in exchange for not having to stand in hour long lines to get some food or request help from the front desk, etc. Bellagio even had a queue line setup that was at least 50 people deep to check-in! No thanks. Delano and Mandalay Bay are .4 miles to the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign if you want to go down there for a quick picture.Room: So nice. The bed was heavenly, both the mattress comfort and the quality of the linens. The bathroom had an extra deep tub that was great. The towels were a little small I thought, and they could have been a little more plush. The bath products provided were great, especially the lotion. The toilet paper wasn't horrible, which is saying something compared to most hotels. The two bedroom suite is actually a lock off 2 Queen/1 Bedroom Suite with an adjacent King Studio room. However, it was a great option for us, and it was cheaper than two individual rooms. Plus, this way you only get dinked with one per night resort fee and you can have more than 2 adult guests registered to the room without additional fees.Housekeeping: Again, exceptional job.Gym & Spa: Decent quality. Not the best hotel gym I've experienced, but nowhere near the worst. While I didn't go to the spa, I saw the spa lobby and area from the Gym. Even in the lobby the spa did a good job setting a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.Nickel and Diming: I travel a lot, and I'm familiar with prices being higher at resorts. Further, I'm familiar with the fact that the higher end the hotel/resort, the more things you'll have to pay for such as wifi or breakfast or a fridge, etc. However, MGM Resorts takes this to a whole new level. Never have I been to a place with jacked up Starbucks and food prices. I've even been to Vegas before, twice and on the strip in 5* hotels, but I've never felt so nickel and dimed as I did at Mandalay/Delano, so I know this isn't an across the board Vegas issue. My Starbucks black coffee was $4.60. Lattes will run you $7-9. Breakfast sandwich-almost $10 each! Bananas-$3 each! Bottled Water $5-$8 each. They list Keurig as an amenity on the website. If you expect to use said amenity either bring your own pods and cup, or prepare to pay $4.50 per use for a papercup and pod. To add to this, if you go to a cheaper per night resort Luxor or Excalibur (still MGM Resorts), you pay less for the same items! Starbucks Coffee, $1.50 cheaper. Bottled water, $.75 cheaper. Ridiculous, but I guess people are willing to pay a little more instead of walking. I did a few times, begrudgingly.Final Thoughts: I'd certainly return to Delano for that wonderful bed, tranquil atmosphere, and high quality service across the board. However, if the nickel and diming gets worse, I'd probably opt to stay at the Palazzo or Wynn. Or perhaps Vdara. Vdara is owned by MGM Resorts, too, but at least I'd be Center Strip and could go elsewhere to get, you know, normal priced coffee and a banana. 4 Stars (would have been 5* if the food hadn't been so outrageously overpriced.)
