Delano Las Vegas
- What's Included
Thoughtspot independent pharmacy convention so I didn't book the room. Hotel is very clean and modern looking but far away from the action of the strip which I prefer. The room in which I was booked is interstate side so not a good view of strip... and the walk to convention center is about 15 minutes a bit shorter if you want to stroll through the parking garage.
My second trip to Vegas, and I'd have to say that this was in the top 5 nicest hotels I've stayed (Delano side). The Delano is all suites, and the rooms are perfect. The entire resort is enormous, and it took a 15 minute jaunt from room to Mandalay Bay Convention area. The distance to the pool was a bit long as well. Lots of restaurants to choose from as well as shopping opportunities. One would hardly need to leave the resort. The main drawback for me was the absolutely ridiculous wait at check in. Literally an hour, with 0 exaggeration. I was here with a convention, and I think they should have either had group (vs leisure) check in, or made it a bit clearer that our reservations were at Delano instead of Mandalay Bay. With 9 agents working the desk I could not believe how crowded it was and how slowly the line moved. This is a very large property so I understand, but still an hour to check in was a terrible first impression. To comment on the convention side of the property, easily the best service I have ever received, with the vast majority of team members greeting us by name (we all had clearly printed name tags, and they were certainly used by the staff). Food was creative without being absurd. Let's not forget the pool - I did not have much free time but what I had was spent at the pool. Pools, actually. There is the main beach/wave pool area, then two lagoons, an adult only pool, and a smaller private area reserved for Delano guests (show your room key for access). Overall 4.5 stars, just need work on check-in process. Hope to stay here again.
I make frequent trips to Vegas and this is the first time I tried out Delano Vegas as Mandalay was booked Out of Mandalay, MGM , Cosmopolitan, Aria and others around it, I found the rooms in Delano newer and fresh than others The room I was staying in was the King Suite and was perfect, the mattress was one of the best ones I have slept in, the pillows could have been more fluffy (but that can be just my taste) and the bathroom was well sized and had shower as well as the bath tub with a good flow of water (no need to spend 20 mins for the tub to fill up)Mandalay is just 3 min walk from within the hotel and if you want a quick Starbucks coffee or a light breakfast (opens around 7 am I think), its just 1 min from the elevator in DelanoThe reception lady looked a tad robotic with a smirk rather than a smile - but that might be due to the long working hours standing and taking in all the request from guests of all kind The best part was the concierge, if you ever happen to come across a concierge ambassador named Tracy Fox, you just met of the most down to earth and helpful concierge member in Vegas. She helped me with my boarding pass as the self-service printer had broken down, we started chatting and she offered me her suggestions for future trips to Vegas - Delano is lucky to have such a non-pretentious and naturally kind person like Tracy as a part of the Concierge teamGood Location, Good rooms, Average front desk service, Good concierge, it is a good place to stay
We had a great experience, and the Delano is a beautiful resort... But what's with the attitude? It seemed everyone from the valet to the front desk staff, the concierge and every other employee, need to take a course on customer satisfaction, client experience, or whatever you would like to refer to it as. We'll gladly book elsewhere next month.
To be honest I'm not a fan of Vegas or the people it attracts, so bear that in mind when reading my review. Pro's: Close (5 mins) indoor walk to the Mandalay Bay convention Center. Relatively quiet common areas (by Vegas standards). Easy access (without getting fried outside) to 5-6 excellent restaurants. Good size rooms (suites). Excellent Joel R restaurant on the top floor with beautiful views. Cons:It's in Vegas. Shockingly cheap towels in the bathroom. Outrageously priced in room amenities ($5 per cup to use the coffee maker). Having to push through the plebs clogging the hotel entrance each night, as they line up for the "michael Jackson" show. The attire of most of the female guests (I never thought it would be possible to get tired of seeing boobies hanging out everywhere, everyday, but then silicon has never been my thing. In summary, the Luxor next door is like a trailer park. The Delano is like a double wide only trailer park, where all the guests just won $10k on a lottery scratch card.
