Our Opinion
First-rate service and hospitality. Hands down the best hotel in the downtown area. A great place to stay if you're looking for a change from the popular Las Vegas Strip. Highly recommended for those who wish to stay in the downtown area.

Overview
The most historic hotel in Vegas to have achieved the AAA 4-Diamond Award for 24 consecutive years. An elegant hotel, richly appointed with marble, crystal and brass. The dazzling $70 million Fremont Street Experience is right outside the door in downtown Las Vegas. The Golden Nugget is as lustrous as the Hand of Faith, a 61 pound gold nugget displayed inside the hotel.

Location: On Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas.

Great trip to Las Vegas for the WNFR. Gambling not bad, food good, company wonderful.

The location of the Golden Nugget is good. Our bathroom not very clean from day one. I left a note about the blow dryer not working and nothing was done about it. The bathroom floor nor the bathroom counter top was cleaned during our 3 night stay-dirty when we got there.

Won't stay again

We stayed here for the NFR. The smoke was the biggest problem along with other room issues. Our shower had rust in the bath tub and wouldn't drain. Each time we showered the water would back up. Our friends had one of the newly remodeled rooms and it was very dark in the room. They also had one of the faucets break and it took over 24 hours to fix the problem. They came to fix it quickly when they thought that water was leaking onto the floor. I wouldn't stay again even if the room was free. The fact that I was charged a resort fee and used none of the amenities also added frustration.

NFR Stay and Play

I stayed at the Golden Nugget for 3 nights during the NFR, National Finals Rodeo. This is the first I've ever stayed downtown Vegas and we found it in line with our vacation plans which was to 1) attend the NFR 2) have parking for our rental car 3) easy access in / out of town. The GN is obviously an older property and perhaps shows a bit of wear for some, but we found our room in the Carson Tower to be comfortable and clean. Our view was of a parking ramp ~ yes a more elaborate view would be nice, but determine how much you are in the room and its value to you. Check in/out was efficient. We enjoyed being able to walk Fremont Street with the country bands Sawyer Brown playing free just steps from the door. A complimentary shuttle from the GN was certainly convenient going to/from the NFR @ the Thomas and Mack. Overall, if you compare the downtown area to the strip, the downtown area is certainly more laid back in atmosphere and dress; much less showy.Parking was EASY and ample, and close to the interstate. We chose to spend a day out at Red Rock Canyon and another at Valley of Fire which was a great way to spend a few hours outside of the Vegas chaos.

Great stay

The hotel itself is really good, the rooms were really big, the beds are comfy and the service in the hotel was amazing. We walked around finding somewhere to eat and decided to go to the Grotto restaurant in the hotel and it was amazing! The food was probably the best Italian I've ever had and the service from the gentleman that served us was 5*. The only downside to the hotel was the internet and we had to pay $14.99 per device per 24 hours which I know you have to pay at most hotels in Vegas but I think it should be included. I would also recommend that you go to Freemont Street to get some alcohol as the shops in the hotel were crazy prices! The location was amazing and if you wanted to go to the strip there was a bus outside that took you to the strip and it was $6-$8 for a 24 hour pass which is really good value! Would recommend and will come back to stay again.

Pleasantly surprised

We normally spend our time on the Strip in Vegas, but because we went to see the Brenda Lee concert there, we stayed @ the Golden Nugget. I booked the Carson tower, the lowest priced rooms for 2 nights. Our room was quite large with a king sized bed and clean and addequate. Our stay included coupons for discounts on food or alcohol. Their restaurants were the best. We ate at the Chart House,Grotto and the Buffet. Didn't have a bad meal. All delicious. Parking was free & the concert was fabulous! Now I know where to stay at a reasonable price next time.
