Castle Kaha Lani Resort
- What's Included
I was over overwhelmed with how nice I was taken care of at Kaha Lani. I had been on 4 islands in the past 2 weeks and Kaha Lani really made the trip a wonderful experience. I had made a mistake on the reservation and they corrected the issue saving money on my mistake. They were so helpful making sure I knew everything about the housing and thing to do.
I had stayed here over 20 years ago. The return was even better. Beautiful one bedroom unit oceanfront. If you want a great view book building 7 or 8, second or third floor. Great location on paved walking trail and close to Lydgate park.
We stayed in a one bedroom unit on the top floor and beach front. Very nice condo that was well supplied and clean. The grounds were great and although we did not use the pool, it seemed nice. The pathway to Lygate Park was beneficial. Beautiful view of sunrise from the lanai. Centrally located on the island and close to restaurants and grocery store. Not far from airport and more services like Costco.
Very clean .everything you need is supplied The ocean was right in front and a public beach was in minutes of walking ,town was close, golf course was right down the street. It was nice place to sit on balcony and watch sun come up.
My wife and I have been coming to Kauai on pretty much an annual basis for the last 30 years or so, with a brief interruption when Hurricane Iniki hit. We have stayed in the Princeville, Poipu, and Waimea areas as well as the Kapaa area, and prefer the East side near Kapaa. It is not as rainy as the north, and not as touristy as Poipu, and you have convenient access to shops and restaurants. We have most frequently stayed at Kapaa Sands, which for many years offered a great value, and in some ways is still our favorite place to stay on the island. However, to obtain the units we want requires booking 14 months in advance, and it is no longer the value that it once was. So this brought us to Kaha Lani, where we rented a one-bedroom, third-floor oceanfront unit. Kaha Lani has many attractive features. The one-bedroom is quite spacious, and has a very nice sized deck so that you can enjoy the ocean view. There is also a second deck at the top of the stairs (no elevator), so you have plenty of “protected” outdoor space in case of rain or you simply want to be in the shade. The unit we were in was perhaps 50-60 yards from the ocean. You could hear the surf. The kitchen is well equipped in general; I shipped some knives because the knives in rentals of this type are usually not of high quality and that held true here as well. We had a malfunctioning microwave, but a replacement was provided shortly after they confirmed the installed one was dead. Our unit had plenty of silverware, glasses, and plates, and a reasonable collection of pots, pans, and cooking and storage dishes; it also had a dishwasher, albeit one that appeared to be having issues. In addition to the stove, you have at least one Weber grill in the parking lot, and I believe there is another by the pool. The bed was comfortable, although I do prefer oceanfront bedroom configurations; waking to the sun rising from the ocean is a treat. Here the bedroom is on the mountain-facing side of the building. The unit had a full bathroom, and a second with a shower, which was very convenient. Loved the water pressure, although the drains had trouble keeping up. Placement and layout was not particularly thoughtful or efficient from a user perspectiv. I often think that designers who fail at everything ultimately become bathroom designers, and they never think about a real human being using the bathroom. The internet connection was reasonably fast. The front desk staff was friendly. The grounds were well kept and tidy. The unit itself was in very good condition for the most part. The complex is fairly isolated, and for those who want to be away from traffic noise, this is an excellent choice. There are relatively few negatives, and depending on your priorities and preferences, some may not be negatives for you. Because we have been to Kauai so many times, we have a shopping routine when we arrive, and we know where the shops and restaurants are. For someone visiting for the first time, the need to get into a car to get pretty much everything may be undesirable. As pointed out in other reviews, there is no air conditioning. Because of where we live, and the climate we are used to, Kauai is warm to us, even in January. The weather during our visit was unusually warm, and I can understand why some might prefer a unit with air conditioning. There is one tv, and it is in the living room. For those who like to watch tv in bed, you will need to find an alternative form of entertainment. A final note about mosquitos. I am a mosquito magnet. I fully expect to get bitten when on Kauai. I don’t know whether it is the location of the complex, an upswing in the mosquito population, or my appeal to mosquitos has increased, but I was “sampled” quite regularly, and had new bites every morning. After a week, I had bites on top of bites. So if you plan on staying here, you may want to plan on getting some mosquito repellant on day one. For a couple that wants to be in a somewhat isolated complex, this is a good choice. For a couple with children that find a beach, a pool, and a playground at the neighboring park sufficient entertainment, then this is also a good location. If you have teenage children who want to be shopping or going to malls or doing other things, this is perhaps not as ideal a location. If you are retired, and want a nice quiet place to kick back and soak up the sun, this is a good choice. We are likely to book again.
