Castle Kaha Lani Resort
- What's Included
I just returned from two nights at the Kaha Lani. Upon checking in, I was presented with a bill for $50 plus tax for a cleaning fee. I booked my trip as a package through Tripmasters, so I was not aware of this additional fee. I always assumed that housekeeping would be included in the hotel's nightly rate, and I have never seen this before. I was also asked if I wanted to use the safe in my room which would cost me another $2.50 per day, which I declined. While I was out sightseeing much of the day, I really only showered, slept and made coffee there, and did not really need any housekeeping during my stay. I left my garbage tied up per the instructions, I did not leave housekeeping a tip because they never visited my room while I was there. This would not have been an issue except that I had paid additional for housekeeping, and left me feeling a bit ripped off. With that being said, my room was updated for the most part except for some of the furnishings, again not an issue because I spent very little time there. Overall it waas quite comfortable. The views were beautiful and the roosters were not a bother to me at all. So close to Lydgate Park, which I really enjoyed! Being able to listen to the ocean all night was lovely as well.
After reading many reviews, I was expecting to find ourselves at an 'okay plus' resort. However, we stayed a month, and, now, I find myself really missing many of the details that the Kaha Lani offered us. It wasn't perfect but it provided us with a lovely refuge from which to recover after each day's exploration of the island. We stayed in suite 303 on the third floor just off the beach. We had originally hoped for one of the condos that ran parallel to the beach but, after a couple of days, appreciated that ours, which was situated kitty corner to the beach offered us a more complete view, shade in the worst heat of the day and the breeze at night. The condo, itself, was much more spacious than we expected and was very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, we arrived at the same time as the painters and for at least two of the four weeks that we spent there, we had to endure their constant activity and noises. While we realize that they were just doing a their jobs, and were trying their best to be invisible, they intruded upon our peace and quiet. Although we enjoyed the nearby beach, we set out early each day to check out other beaches and trails so that we could appreciate the island and all it had to offer. In the evenings, after the painters were gone, we were able to truly enjoy our condo and have since recommended it to several of our friends.
We've stayed here every time we've been to Kuaui, and the island wouldn't be the same if we had to stay somewhere else. The Kaha Lani embodies the spirit of Kuaui; quiet, tranquil, clean, and restful. Vistas of the ocean are exceptional, especially from a third floor unit with ocean views. Morning walks on the beach are easy because it's no more than fifty yards away from most units. The staff is helpful and attentive, but not intrusive. April (the person, not the month) deserves special praise for taking such good care of us when we arrived. She is the model for customer service and friendliness.
The Kaha Lani is located in an amazing part of the world, on an amazing beach and there was very few people around to spoil the feeling of a tropical island holiday. I literally walked the length of the 5 mile beach and saw 2 people. The beach is very wild and spectacular located on a double reef, the sound of the waves are always there to relax you, the driftwood and the lava outcroppings are cool to explore, plus the history of the area is extensive, with lots to see within easy walking distance. We received a double room in a townhouse style designed suite. I watched the waves, rainbows and sunrises from my balcony and couch. I grilled beef burgers on the grill by the pool, which was hardly used, and swam when I wanted to. The grounds are full of tropical plants and very tall palm trees. It smells great! (well except for the room, which smelled of mould, but a quick trip to the Walmart for Hawaiian Scented Air fresheners solved that!). I've stayed in more upscale accommodations, but never have I been in such an amazing location with such a great view. Literally feet from the beach and wild kittens which graze the grounds with the wild birds. Be prepared to be woken up pre dawn every day by the wild roosters, but I'm sure it's like that everywhere on this island. The local markets provide everything you need for the well stocked kitchen. Making Breakfast while watching golfers on the golf golfcourse was nice as well. The rooms are dated, but in all seriousness, you get more here for your money and lots of space to run barefoot in the sand...not like boxed in hotel rooms I've stayed in Hawaii in the past. everything in the room worked, and the breeze that was constant was very refreshing. The staff here are very friendly and will help you with anything. No ensuite laundry which is a drag, but like I said. small price to pay. I will be back with more people.... I can hardly wait.
An immaculately kept condo resort off the busy highway noise and directly on the ocean with one and two-bedroom units that are oceanview and oceanfront. The grounds are well maintained and individual condos are decorated to owners' tastes and likes.
