Courtyard by Marriott Kauai Coconut Beach
- What's Included
The courtyard in Kauai is a conversion from some other brand, but very nice. The rooms are large, but a bit dated.! The grounds and location are extremely nice. Service was very good. The hotel sit directly on a very nice beach. The pool area is large and appeared to be well maintained.
Courtyard hotels are usually good. Given the ambiance that is the Hawaii'n islands one would tend to over rate any hotel. I would think that most brand name hotels on this island would be at least as good or better.Hotel is clean with descent restaurant and bar areas. Despite cleanliness there are signs of aging and deferred maintenance, in the rooms and some areas of the hotel itself. Roosters morning wake-up call not a welcome part of what little ambiance this place has to offer.Quality of food and drinks average but expensive. I am here with a party of 10 people. One look at the menu and they ate in town for 1/2 the price and better food. Parking lot needs expanding. We came late and had trouble parking. They don't automatically clean your room, you get some kind of ticket or voucher or you have to ask them.Wife got us here as part of Costco multi island tour for $300 per night. That's a discount??????Gambling is not legal in Hawaii, but after a stay at this place you'll feel like a really bad day at the craps table.Tomorrow we fly to Maui. I hope it's a better value than this.
The location in Kapaa is great - so much is right around the corner, including a grocery store, restaurants, and rental places. There's also lots of great parking. There's a couple of restaurants in the hotel - they're quite average and the food isn't really worth the cost. The beds are INCREDIBLE, one of the most comfortable stays I've ever had... BUT the hotel is oddly shaped, so it took me 5 minutes to walk to my room. While this was a good stay, I still thought it was expensive - of course this might be because we went right before (and up to) Christmas. The beach was rocky, but if you rent a bike from the hotel ($10/day) you can get on the bike path and swim on the beaches along the path - they're awesome, but the waves are strong so probably not a good plan for those with kids.
We just returned from a trip to Kaua'i for a conference. We chose to update to a premium ocean view room. We were on the first floor, and discovered that we'd been put in a handicapped room, in which the closet bar was placed half way down the closet, making long pants drape on to the floor of the closet. The bathroom was huge, I'm assuming to accommodate a wheel chair. The size was great, and there were lots of grab bars, but the bathroom had one small sink with a small enclosure, that offered no room at all for shaving or makeup supplies, so those had to be stored in the bedroom. The room was equipped with a coffee maker, flat screened TV, and large computer desk.It was a very large room with plantation shutters on the bank of windows, which made up almost the entire wall of the room. Unfortunately some of the shutters had a mind of their own, and wouldn't stay closed without great effort. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was very clean. My biggest complaint about the room was that the lanai door was very hard to open and close, and on the one day I chose to sit outside when I closed the door the gasket and end piece on the door separated from the glass. We reported that to the front desk, but nobody came to repair it during the rest of our stay. The hotel has many good points--the staff is very pleasant and helpful, and will make every effort to make sure that you are enjoying your stay. I read many reviews saying that the staff was rude, or unfriendly. We did not find that to be true at all. The restaurant offers a breakfast service. The brunch is standard hotel fare, but you can also order from the menu. They also offer dinner service. We had dinner there on our first day, after a late arrival, and they did a good job adjusting our meals to insure that they were gluten free as requested. Lunch is offered in the bar area, and their seafood louie is a small, but good salad. The resort fee covers 2 free drinks, as well as free valet parking. There is a small sundries store next to the registration desk that has water, soda, beer and some souvenir items. There is also a nice pool in the center of the courtyard. The most striking thing about the premium ocean view rooms is--of course--an absolutely amazing view of the ocean. Every morning people collect on the lawn to watch the sunrise. In one of these rooms, you can see that without leaving your room. It's a million dollar view in every way. There is also a hula sunrise ceremony on the lawn. The down side is that the hotel, which was built in 1978, and remodeled in 2011, is badly in need of another remodel. I only hope that when that is done, they retain the beautiful wood shutters, bed headboards, and wall units. The beach is not good for swimming, but is great for ocean watching, and the hotel provides lawn furniture to sunbathe, or just chill out watching the waves roll in. We had a Hawaiian Monk seal visit for a day, during our visit. Amazing to see. All in all, I would stay at the Courtyard again. It is affordable, within walking distance of restaurants and shops.
We debated between staying at this hotel or the Marriott Resort in Lihue as we are Marriott Platinum members. We are so glad we decided to stay at the Courtyard! The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport - and has no airplane noise. The parking lot is quite large making it easy to park. As we were Platinum members, the resort/parking fees we eliminated for our stay. Check in was smooth and quick. We received a complementary upgrade to an ocean view room. The view was spectacular! The beach is very pretty, but too rocky for swimming or snorkeling. Our room was very nice - I think the decor is a little bit dated, but the room was extremely clean which more than made up for it. Like others mentioned, the bathrooms are very small, but it too was very, very clean and we spent most of our time outside the room. The bed was very comfortable. And the room was very, very quiet! The hotel has a very nice pool too! The staff is very friendly and helpful! We would definitely stay at the Courtyard on our next visit to Kauai!
