Courtyard by Marriott Kauai Coconut Beach
- What's Included
This has got to be one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed. Set right on the beach with beautiful garden it is totally idyllic. The room we had was looking straight out onto the beach. The bed was comfortable and there was a huge really comfortable chair with stool. The room had TV, tea/coffee facilities, plenty of space etc.The hotel offered spa facilities, tour desk, pool, outdoor gas fires for the evening, hammocks. The staff were friendly and helpful especially the lady at the tour desk for arranging tours. The hotel is close to many amenities but a car would help.We ate a few times in the hotel and the food was tasty and good adequate portions. We would have liked perhaps a wider choice of meals but overall it was good.Overall both my wife and I were very impressed and would thank the hotel for a wonderful stay.
I have such mixed feelings about this hotel. I wanted to love it but I just couldn't get there. I have very high standards and have stayed at 5-diamond properties throughout the world. I intentionally lowered my expectations for this trip knowing that I was choosing to have a different experience. I thought this would help me embrace this hotel but like I said, I just couldn't get there. Yes, the location is gorgeous - it's Kauai of course but does that mean the rest shouldn't matter? I don't think so. Specifics: I paid extra for the Premiere Ocean Front room and when I checked in after traveling for 15 hours and went to my room I was very disappointed. The carpeting was damp and musty smelling and stayed that way for the duration. (I get that the hotel is on an island on the ocean but the carpet NEEDS to be replaced!) The balcony fit two small chairs NOT facing the ocean. (Yes, you could see the ocean if you were standing on the balcony but that's about it.) Neither the bed or the desk had any visible ocean view. I was so disappointed that I called the front desk to see if anything else was available. No luck and no sympathy. The gal at the front desk didn't really seem to care that I was unhappy and I hung up wondering where the infamous "Aloha Love" was. Aside from my unhappiness about the room I will also say that the cleanliness of the hotel was less than acceptable and over the course of the week I noticed more and more things that needed attention. (Moldy bathrooms, filthy elevators, pool grounds littered). Additionally, I rented a bike for $10 and was astonished at the bike they sent me out on. Really? Marriott can't afford to get some new bikes for its guests? Shame! The best part of the hotel was the breakfast and the restaurant staff. Every morning I was greeted by friendly team members who really seemed to care about delighting me. I never got this from the front desk people - ever. Another benefit of the hotel is it's location but next time I would stay a mile up the road (away from Kapaa Old Town) at the Hilton. I'm sorry - I can't recommend this hotel even for budget travelers. The hotel needs a refresh and the front desk staff needs an infusion of customer service training.
We had a great room on the fourth floor. Vaulted ceiling, king size bed, large room and ocean front. We loved it. Screen on door so you could leave the door open and hear the ocean. Awesome. Smaller hotel so not overly crowded like some of the bigger resorts in Maui.
I'm a Marriott regular so I've stayed at my share of Courtyards, including the one near the airport on Maui. I picked this hotel because it was the least expensive of the Marriotts on the island, and I was expecting it to be standard Courtyard (like the Maui one), but it turned out to be considerably different, mostly in a good way.Two in house dining options, a gym, a pool, laundry, oceanfront, daily yoga on the beach (not free though), beach chair and bicycle loans. Attentive and courteous staff, friendly service at the restaurants, lots of places to relax, and balconies in the rooms which most Courtyards don't have. There is a resort fee (or destination fee, they call it, I guess because it's not *really* a resort), but that gets you 2 complimentary drinks, one free yoga class, and beach chair and bike rentals. There are also other fitness classes, an in-house luau and some other things I've forgotten. My only complaint is that parking is extra, on top of the destination fee, which is a bit excessive if you ask me. It's not like this is a downtown location where parking is hard to come by - the lot is huge.Other than that, it was a great stay, with some nice resort-like perks without the resort rates - yes, it's pricey compared to other Courtyards, but you get the oceanfront for a lot less than many places on the island. It's well-appointed enough that you don't even really need to leave the hotel if that's your kind of vacation (though again, this is NOT a resort). It's within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Kapaa, and is just about at the midpoint of main highway routes of the island, so the entire island within a reasonable driving distance. Kapaa's a good base if you plan to explore a lot. Also, about the beach - I'm not sure if it's always like this or if it was just the time of year or random weather, but when I was here (early May) the surf on the east coast was dangerously high for swimming. Something to look into if swimming in the ocean is a priority.
This resort was beautiful and it was right on the beach! There was a nice walking trail that you could walk up and down the beach. The workout facility had some treadmills and some bikes and some lifting equipment. Very centrally located so you could easily see all parts of the island during your stay.
