Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach
- What's Included
If you have breathing issues, allergies or other lung related issues or even if you don't, Do Not stay at Kauai Palms (American Lung Association article on breathing issues and our experience). The first night upon arriving, we were greeted with several 1/2" critters running around the bathroom and closet. We didn't know what they were as we have never in our travels encountered Cockroaches before. Had we not been stuck for a place to sleep and had we not been recommended by another hotel when booking, we would have run that night but there was nowhere to go. Every second day we had uninvited guests when we arrived back from our daily tours... the hotel sprayed the room on the third day but the second to last night, more critters then upon waking at 6 am, we were greeted with an 1 1/2" fellow, lying on his back, tentacles still moving. Don't know where he fell from or where he'd been crawling but this sent us out of that room to bunk with friends on their couch for that final night. The manager was good enough to discount the room to one night of stay and we know it is not her fault; the owner's are off site owner's and obviously do not care about their facility. The place needs to be torn down and rebuilt if they want to remain in the tourism industry even though this may be 'Hawaii Life'! It is totally unacceptable in the tourism industry.
Staff moved us to a more expensive room free of charge after we had a toilet overflow disaster in our basic room. They followed up with us everyday to make sure we were happy with our new room. Caring, attentive management and staff. We will be staying here on our next vacation to Kauai.
The room we stayed in with two twin beds was tiny, but it had all we needed in a convenient location. It's a basic hotel room, but if you just need a place to sleep at night, this is the place for you as it's the most reasonably priced hotel around! Nothing else compared, price-wise.
We stayed here for 5 nights in two rooms. Myself my hubby and our two adult kids.Good -The price, early check in, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the showers were hot with good pressure. Morning coffee. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful. The bad - one staff member who chastised us for cleaning the microwave in the common room (apparently we should have asked her to do it), then she gave us the cold shoulder ignoring anything we said to her or "huffing". Asked about the onsite laundry facilities and was told to use the laundry mat a couple of blocks away. There was no where to hang wet bathers and towels. A much more friendly receptionist let us hang them on the rails outside reception but warned us not to leave them too long as homeless people can wander through and may take them. We were on the ground level in a an annex building and it did not feel that secure.I would stay somewhere else next time. We did not feel the Aloha here.
The staff was so helpful in making arrangements so that checking in after the office closed was super easy. Once we entered the room, we were pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. We'd read previous reviews so we knew the room was going to be small, and it was, but it didn't feel cramped. It was a warm welcome for our first night ever in Hawaii!
