Koloa Landing Resort
- What's Included
I stayed at Koloa Landing with my family in Sept 2016 and Sept 2017 (they had all been here before and got a great deal through Costco Travel). Last year, we stayed in building 2 on the 4th floor and had a little bit of a view of the ocean; but there was a lot of construction going on as the resort continued to expand. Based on our excellent stay last year, we returned this year to find that construction was all done and the resort now has more pools with slides and waterfalls, cabanas that you can rent, a restaurant/bar, and much more. (See my review on the Holo Holo Grill). You can walk through the resort, and cross the street to an ocean overview (not a beach). The location of this resort is excellent. Being on the south side of the island, it isn't as rainy, and there are several beaches that are a 5 minute drive away. We visited baby beach and Poipu Park the most. Again we stayed in bldg 2, and had a 3 bedroom, 3 bath unit complete with full kitchen and laundry room. We also had a wrap around lanai, so we could enjoy views of the resort (although on second floor we couldn't see the ocean). Toiletries are refreshed daily. Other relatives stayed in a one bedroom unit in one of the newer buildings. It had a small kitchen area, washer/dryer stacked in a closet, and a lovely view of the "adult" pool from their balcony. They were very satisfied with their room as well. I didn't visit the spa this year, but my 90 minute massage last year was lovely. The resort now offers a luau, but don't waste your money on this one. The Smith's Family Luau is definitely worth the extra money for a more authentic experience. Expect to see lots of families and honeymooners at this resort.
This is my second stay at Koloa Landing in 1 year. It is a luxurious resort lifestyle in every sense; although the beach is a 10+ minute walk. I've enjoyed both a 3 and 2 bedroom apartment. Both were completely furnished and supplied with everything you need eat and live on site, including in apartment washer and dryer. I will definitely stay here again.
We had a nice stay with our 3 young children and friends in a 3br apartment. Fantastic apartment with thoughtful amenities in the kitchen. It didn't include traditional amenities like cotton buds, toothbrushes, etc. so be sure to pack your own. The washing machine and dryer come in handy for a travelling family. The pools were lovely and the slides were great for the kids. Poipu is a lovely area and the resort is between 2 nice shopping villages with great restaurants.
My husband and I recently stayed in a one bedroom villa for our 10 year anniversary. The room was nice and spacious. There was a washer, dryer and full kitchen which was very convenient. The view was fine. We were on the first floor and looked directly at shrubs that blocked houses that back up to the property. Like other reviews, there was a rooster that woke us up every morning at 4:00 AM. Roosters are all over the island so I am not sure how much the hotel can control this but still annoying. The sheets were dirty our first night so we had to have maintenance come and change our sheets at 11:00 at night. The pool was nice but it didn't have the wow factor we had at other hotels in Hawaii. Maybe mostly because you aren't directly on the water and you are looking at power lines from the hotel pool. The service at the hotel was average. This was the only hotel we stayed at during our vacation where we did not get a gift for our anniversary. On our last day, we had a late flight back home to Florida. Since it was a Wednesday and we are pretty sure they were not fully booked, we asked for a late checkout. They only allowed us an extra hour (12:00) which is pretty standard for any hotel to do so we were disappointed they wouldn't better accommodate us. To make matters worse, the front desk called us the day of our checkout at 11:30 asking why we hadn't checked out yet after they honored the 12:00 checkout the night before. Overall we weren't impressed by the hotel and definitely don't feel it is worth the high cost. Luckily, we are very loyal to Marriott and we were able to use our reward points to get one night free during our stay or we would have felt very overcharged for the experience.
Stayed here last week for 5 nights in a two bedroom and was totally blown away with the elegance of the unit. Beds were comfy, kitchen superb, living very spacious, gardens emasculate, and the pool was excellent. Restaurant food was great. Service very good. Had a little problem with the air con and someone came and fixed immediately. Very quiet. No noise from neighbours. We had a pool view unit but didn't experience any noise from it. Well worth the money.
