Koloa Landing Resort
- What's Included
We stayed here four nights with our 3 year old son for our wedding anniversary. I will start by saying that the hotel grounds are lush and beautiful and the room was very nice. The hotel is not on the beach, which we were OK with because the pool is wonderful. This hotel fell short for me due to the fact that there was only one "restaurant". It was really a very unglamorous pool shelter where we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was average and proudly priced. There is a sundries shop where you can get a quick bite, which wasn't bad for a quick breakfast sandwich. Also, it is a short walk to the Kukuiula Shops which have several nice restaurants and and some good shopping. We walked next door to the dated 3 star Sheraton for lunch one day, which is where the staff at Koloa recommended we go to the beach. The second area where I was disappointed was customer service. There needs to be a little more staff training on what service should look like at a luxury resort. This property felt very much more like a timeshare (with limited amenities) than a 4.5 star luxury resort. They need another restaurant here to make this place feel like more like a resort. Oh, and your waitstaff should know the food menu. A server should never reply, "I don't know, I have not tried that." They do have Luau on Tuesday, which is a good effort, but we were not staying there that night. This place has tremendous potential, hopefully Marriott can invest to make this hotel what it could be, but right now it just does not measure up. Probably 3.5 stars.
Our family of 15 recently stayed at this resort. A month prior to our trip we arranged to have the family all located in the same building. Once we arrived we were told we were in three different buildings. The staff quickly fixed the situation and we ended up all in the same building. The resort is gorgeous. The pools were amazing. The kids loved being at the pool almost more than they loved the beaches. The only downfall of this resort is that all of the walkways are extremely slippery while wet. My daughter fell twice, at which one time my brother in law went to the bar to see if they could give him some ice for an injury. He was told no, he could purchase the ice. A second time, my daughter fell right in front of a staff member who didn’t even ask if she was ok (my daughter was hurt and crying). I’m not sure what can be done in regards to the walkways, we tried to walk with out shoes on and it was still too slippery. We would stay again, it truly was a beautiful resort.
We really enjoyed our visit! The staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms very spacious, clean and quiet. We had an awesome view! The location was a short walk to everything we needed. And if we didn't feel like walking we called the Aloha Shuttle for a fun ride!Pools and hotel grounds just gorgeous! We even enjoyed the putting green!Just a great vacation stay!
Rooms: We stayed here 12 days in a suite with Building 11/4th Floor Resort View court view and building 11/2nd Floor ‘ocean view’. The ocean view is 50% obstructed by buildings in front of 11. I personally would only get 3rd floor (40%?) or 4th floor if you are really in to seeing the ocean from the terrace. My favorite was the suite with separate bedroom, living room, full kitchen, etc.. The ocean is about 100 yards away. I am not sure if other buildings have a better view.Exercise Room- The exercise room was horrible. It reminded me of a Springhill Suites exercise room! The max hand weights was 50 pounds. The had 1 bike and dozen or so treadmills and Ellipticals.Pool- Fantastic pool with water slides. A good pool for kid fun.HoloHolo Grill- The food is good but has a limited menu. You will likely need to drive for food. There is a small outside mall nearby or drive 20 mins Lihue.Airport-The airport is about 20-30 mins away.
Dead moth on the floor on arrival, not removing dirty pool towels (despite the contract stating fresh towels daily), and not having the room cleaned except once (despite the contract stating full cleaning every 3 days – we stayed for 7 days) were just a few of the basic disappointments. However, Koloa Landing Resort has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was traveling with someone with health disabilities and requested a room that was centrally located. I also called the resort, in advance, to request a central room and explained I had a family member with health disabilities and was told that this that this shouldn’t be a problem. However, on arrival, they placed us in the furthest building on a hill. They stated they had no other rooms, except one, that was in an equally distant building, with no view but it was not on a hill. Out of necessity, we took the ‘no view’ room which was the only other alternative. We wasted many hours of our vacation dealing with resolving this issue and reimbursement for the differential since we paid for partial ocean view but had to settle for 'resort' view. Besides the first manager ‘forgetting’ to follow up, the subsequent, more senior manager, Jessica, later, had the nerve to tell me that I should have requested an 'accessible' room and then it would have been guaranteed. This was the first time I even heard this option, despite having called in advance (and making a request in writing). They should be ashamed of how they treated someone traveling with health disabilities and their lack of proactive assistance, information, or help. The only reason I gave them any stars is that the resort itself is nice, although not oceanfront, with great pools. Secondly, there was an amazing bellman named Vincent who help us on arrival, showed us the 2 room options, and ultimately, kindly moved all of our luggage into our room and even put away our refrigerated belongings. His kindness and extra care was the only redeeming aspect of this resort’s customer service! Vincent is amazing and should be a valued treasure at this resort.
