Koloa Landing Resort
- What's Included
We stayed at one of the older buildings. Our room, which was spotless, overlooked the adult pool with it's relaxing waterfalls. By the way, the main pool is finally finished. All the staff we interacted with where very helpful and always had a big smile.
I wasn't expecting an ocean view given what I paid but very disappointed in the view given my Marriott gold status. I was given a pool view room which faced a dirt lot with no pool in sight. We asked to be moved to an actual pool view and got the below dirt lot with a pool in the distance. Compare that to the pool view they advertise next to it. We returned to the front desk again asking for an upgrade to, willing to pay the cash difference, and were told nothing was available. I showed the staff the available rooms that I could book online now and they told me they couldn't release those and that the recently merged Marriott system couldn't accommodate. Not a good enough answer I'm afraid. You're telling me you'd rather those rooms go empty than take my money to upgrade. Ridiculous. I won't be back if this is how you try to build your client base.
We headed to Koloa Landing Resort on March 18th, crossing our fingers that the new pool would be open. It was and we were so excited as it was beautiful! This resort is on the cliff's of Poipu, but only a short walk to Poipu Beach and several snorkeling coves. The staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating. Our 2 bedroom was upgraded from a resort view to a partial ocean, we did have a great view of the ocean but also of the conference center which was not so nice. They are planting on the roof so it will be nice soon. We walked through the Sheraton down the road, and was not impressed compared to the Koloa Landing Resort. Great stay and would return.
Friends of ours had their wedding at Koloa Landing Resort. We shared a villa with 2 other couples and it worked out great. We each had our own bedrooms and bathrooms with a common area, large kitchen with updated appliances, and large balcony that overlooked the beautiful grounds. The staff and service were excellent. Everything was clean and very nice.
Koloa Landing has a beautiful ocean view as guests enter the open air lobby to check in. The mai tai and fresh flower lei was lovely as well as the long awaited 400,000 gallon salt water lagoon style pool with waterfalls and water slides! The well manicured grounds are lush and include mini golf, volleyball, soccer and more. The fitness facility had ocean views and decent equipment. I always feel that more detail can be spent in the fitness area. Our building overlooked the adult pool which came in handy since we arrived on the day of the lagoon pool grand opening. I found the staff to be gracious and accommodating, of course, they had just switched over to the Marriott Autograph Collection two days prior, and all the major players were milling about, checking out the pool, working out the kinks, etc. I loved both pools (lagoon and adult/tranquility) that I spent time at. However, pools are not deal breakers for my family since we are beach people and surfers. Our room had 1 king bed and a sofa pullout. The washer/dryer unit was located in the bathroom and worked really well! Loved it! The kitchenette was functional but we did not use it much because the continental breakfast came with our room package and it was just okay. Tip, the lobby serves delicious Starbucks coffee in the morning. Do not try brewing the Honolulu roast in your room! Yuck! The only other problem in our room was that there wasn't a full size mirror. I found that odd. After the lagoon pool was open, I was talking to the builder at the bar (who is from the same home town as me). He said the lagoon pool was built because the hotel does not have direct access to the beach. For anyone reading this, there is direct access path to the beach across the road but it is not considered a "swimmable" beach. We watched the turtles and sunset each night. It was gorgeous! My 11 year old and I spent the day at Poipu beach and it took us 5-7 minutes to walk there from our room (although I think they offer a free shuttle). That would be the reason for 4 stars and not 5. In my mind, a 5 star hotel is full service, full access, beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling equipment to use, etc. Overall, I loved this place and would go back. I think it's a lot of bang for your buck.
