Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation
- What's Included
I was impressed with this spot. Great condos/villas. Spacious and had everything we needed. Comfortable king sized bed, nice bathroom and shower. Kitchen, living room area, dining area and patio. Each unit had their own Wifi, strong signal. Some people complain about no AC, but we did not find this an issue. Ceiling fans kept it cool and during the night had to even turn the fan down. Plenty of windows and vents throughout the room, always able to keep air flow moving.Details such as : cooler for day trips, pull out couch in living room, safe, foot wash by the door for beach sand. I felt like a lot of thought was put in to making sure people had everything they needed. Lovely gardens throughout the facility. Lovely walking paths. I was impressed with this place.Restaurant on site (we did not eat there)Good laundry facility on site. $2.50 for a wash, $2.50 for a dry and there always seemed to be machines available. Coin machine at the laundry site.Less than a minute walk from the laundry facility to the beach - it felt safe enough there to leave the laundry for the waiting time. Market and shops within walking distance. Short drive to whoever you need. Multiple beaches within a 2 minute walk (on the property). The beach for the complex was never busy, and had excellent snorkelling. You can rent whatever equipment you needed. I brought my snorkel and flippers - you can rent them in town for $1.50 a day...We swam every day. There is an aquatic complex right across the street from the complex (30 second walk) but we did not visit, the beach was amazing and kept us occupied. There is a Costco near the airport, cheapest shopping and has everything you'll need. less than 20 minutes drive from the Costco to the complex. Amazing sunsets every night. There are chairs you can sit in to watch and plenty of grass area or beach to sit on......all within the complex. Great 10-12km hiking trail nearby, along the ocean cliffs to another beach. This is a good area of the island as a base of operations to explore. 1-1.5ish hour to the Napalli coastline. 1-1.5ish hour to the beaches by Princeville. 20 minutes to the airport. I have travelled to many places, and for a relaxing warm Hawaiian vacation I highly recommend this place. I had booked it though Costo Travel.
After reviewing the hotels/resorts in Poipu, we decided on the Kiahuna Plantation Resort. Our building was the second building along the second driveway. Our unit was a corner one bedroom on the ground floor. The exterior grounds were beautiful, the building in good shape and the unit was well furnished in good taste. The unit was also in a good state of repair. We literally had everything we needed for our eight day stay which I wish had been longer. Our sliding rear doors opened to a patio with a table, chairs, and two lounges. Beyond the patio the area was beautifully landscaped as I mentioned. It was a very short walk to the lovely beach, and laundry room. The gym and pool were only a short walk across Poipu Road. The coastline/beach is simply breath taking and to be there at sunset is a real treat. The staff were polite and professional and the price was very reasonable.
Just spent 5 nights here in Kuaui. We booked our travel through a third party rental agency. No problems - fantastic process and owners were extremely thoughtful with information for the condo and area. We've stayed at many condo rentals in the past - Key Largo, FL; Honua Kai in Maui, Clearwater Beach, FL and have been to many 5 star all inclusive resorts throughout Mayan Riviera Mexico and throughout Caribbean. What was 5 star are the following: staff, beach (one of favs of all time), resort grounds, area of island and close proximity to many shops and first class restaurants (from 5 star dining experiences to 5 star hole in the wall food shacks). Beach club where the pool was excellent also. Oh and the island is also 5 star - how can I forget to mention that! But what wasn't 5 star was no air conditioning. I knew this when I booked the one bedroom suite but figured it would cool off adequately at night. We had every window and cross vent open but most nights were very warm. We prefer to sleep in 19C every night but temp ranged from 22-24C at night. Too warm! And then you struggled with road noise - we were in building 41 so very close to the highway. So we would have to close a few of the shutters so that we could fall asleep...and then the beloved island roosters - which are rampant all over island - would start roosting at 5AM. So sleep wasn't the most ideal. To sleep/nap in day after getting back from activities wouldn't be ideal as unit is even warmer during day. Plus we were travelling with a 5 year old so his bedtime was earlier than ours....although due to lack of sleep we would try to go to bed same time anyway...but because of the cross ventilation throughout suite, there was no privacy so we couldn't watch tv at night or it would wake/keep our son up. So even through it was a one bedroom suite, it felt like a normal hotel room. Also noise from neighbours all around could be heard. So I struggle with giving this place a 5 star rating. For most aspects it was a 5 star experience. The unit is very old but it was clean and comfortable. But no AC to sleep comfortably was and will be a deal breaker for future travel to this place. If even a wall AC unit was available - like at other condo rentals we've stayed in, we would most definitely reconsider and stay again.
This Outrigger resort is one of the oldest and best "bang for the buck" resorts on Poipu. Situated between the Sheraton (now Marrriott) and Waiohai. I did a 3rd party reservation and stayed for 4 nights in a single bedroom condo. for $1,015 TOTAL (all taxes included) If you know anything about Poipu? Mighty hard to stay under $250 per nite and I've spent considerably more at other places (i.e., Hyatt, Sheraton, etc.) These condos are pretty quiet, an easy walk to the beach and centrally located to Spouting Horn, the golf course(s) etc. The kitchens are well equipped and the unit was clean. My ONLY complaint was the lousy television set up in attempting to simply listen to the news. There has GOT TO BE a simpler way than flipping between remotes. Really now... Unfortunately, the only other huge disappointment was their "organic" restaurant which use to be sensational. Don't know what happened but believe me, "sensational" isn't the adjective I would use this time around. Really distressing decrease in caliber of entrees and general food selection and cooking. There are plenty of other places to eat, but I just have to say? It has gone wayyyyy downhill since I first ate there in 2007.
We made our reservation 10 months prior to our trip in hopes of getting the accommodations we requested, third floor, Royal Garden view. So we get first floor with a view of a Plumeria tree and another condo building. Obviously, a matter of semantics, at least to them. The condo was fairly clean but needs upgrading and just general maintenance! The kitchen cupboards were all sticky and not from the humidity. The bathtub/shower is a tripping hazard so hang on. All of the overhead fans thunked at medium to high speeds. Since this is breeze cooled, you should be able to open and close the louvers easily which was not the case. The door drags so badly it, I gave up and let my husband open it. If I was going out alone, I went out the lanai door and around the building.I understand that this is an older complex but I am also aware that the owner of the condo pays a pretty stiff maintenance fee. They need to get their money back.
