Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation
- What's Included
The Kiahuna Plantation Resort is less than a block away from Poipu beach which is always rated as one of the top five beaches in the world and deservingly so. The beach that is attached to the hotel is a beach break and could be scary if you are not a good swimmer but once you get past the break there is good snorkeling, boogey boarding, and surfing. The room was a spacious two story and we were upgraded to a beach view room with a spectacular view. The hotel was amazing with their response time any time we needed help with anything and everyone was more than polite. The rooms do not have A/C so if you can't stand the heat this might not be for you. The hotel provides portable fans which we absolutely needed. The rooms include a kitchen so we saved quite a bit by cooking our own meals which we enjoy doing. The hotels pool is across the street from the hotel and I would have preferred it to be on property so it was a bit inconvenient. Poipu is at the Southern tip of Kauai and circumnavigating the island can take a few hours or more depending on time of day but there are plenty of attractions in Poipu and the surrounding towns. Next time we go to Kauai we will be staying at a hotel that has A/C but we did enjoy our stay at Kiahuna. PS- The windows in the rooms have wooden slats that are adjustable and if you leave a light on at night you will have to deal with quite a few moths and other insects or one of the tiny gecko like lizards that are everywhere.
Our 3rd stay at Kiahuna and this unit (managed by Castle Resorts) was substandard: rust-stained bathtub, corroded appliances and rundown appearance. Our previous units were magnificent, so this was disappointing. Owner needs to invest some $$ in upgrades. Beautiful grounds as always though, and I couldn't stay out of that beautiful ocean. We'll be back -- to another unit.
My husband, young adult daughter and I stayed at Kiahuna Plantation Resort(Castle) from May 1st-8th, 2017. We booked a one-bedroom garden view, our unit was as far as you can get from beach, at first we thought this might be a problem but we ended up liking the location. We had a ground floor unit with lots of privacy, a pretty view, kittens and lots of chickens. The unit was dated, but clean and met all our needs. The resort location itself is perfect, Poipu beach is great,we walked to Sheraton next door to watch sunset, every morning at sunrise we went to Poipu Beach State Park where we saw as many as nine sea turtles, also, seals and the water is so clear you can see tropical fish without snorkel gear! Shopping and restaurants are right across resort. This resort does not have all the fancy pools and amenities like the Sheraton, Marriott, or Grand Hyatt, which are all on same beach strip. it's a very quiet, laid back, no crowds resort which was absolutely perfect for us! Driving to attractions all over island was very easy! Loved our stay and we will definitely be back!
I have been visiting Poipu, Kauai for....well, since my mom brought us when we were children, 1973ish. Kiahuna condos hadn't been built yet. After we experienced hurricane Iniki and The Poipu Beach Hotel wasn't re-opened, my husband and I decided to bring our family to the condos. We love the location because it's close to snorkeling and surfing...and golf, if you golf.We booked through Castle Cooke this trip. We didn't know what location the condo was in until we arrived. Obviously, the more you pay, probably the better the location. We were on a budget....our condo was next to the main street. The traffic noise wasn't bad at all. I slept really good after a full day of playing in the sun.The condo was clean. The kitchen had cooking and eating utensils. Refrigerator was great. Eating and living area were nice. Spacious bathroom.Just a ways away from the beach. If we had small children, it would have been difficult.
We returned to the Kiahuna plantation this month after a hiatus of several years. We have been visiting the resort since the 90's and sitting on the manicured ocean front lawn brings back memories. WE had reserved a garden view unit during a January sale at a very reasonable price and requested a ground floor unit due to issues with stairs. The unit that the Castle resort assigned us was 48, on the second floor. Apparently the homeowners meeting meant that our assigned unit was occupied. I was able to climb the stairs, but wondered what I would have done if I was truly disabled. THe unit had been renovated, with new cabinets, lighting and granite counters, with a tiled shower that necessitated a smaller than usual space for the toilet-not great for a tall person.Although these units are more casual, the furniture and linens could have used updating. The kitchen items were those that were included on the list, Some additions could have been helpful-a vase, salad spinner, etc. There were boogie boards and beach toys in the closet. The resort management was responsive to problems, a large party downstairs was shut down quickly . There were seniors, vacationing families and couples- a wide variety of vacationers. It's a quiet and more reserved resort than some, with a pool across the road and beautiful gardens. The quiet is what we enjoy, and the beautiful landscaping-its a peaceful setting for Relaxing, and is the only condo resort sited directly on the beach at Poipu . Listening to the ocean at night is a pleasure. There are plenty of restaurants and stores within a walk or short drive, and with the ocean a short walk away it is an ideal spot for a visit.
