Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation
- What's Included
Stayed 1 week there with family and friends and was very disappointed in the rooms upkeep it was very dated things like towel racks were barely hanging on the walls. The lid to the coffee pot was broken the radio had no prongs on the plug and the people above us smoked weed on the lanai and would stink are room out apparently some owners are trying to sell there's and do not want to spend money on upgrades. The other family we were with had a very nice room that had been kept up so good luck all outriggers are not equal we have always loved the one in Maui and every room had nice finishes.
After recently leaving this Resort on Thursday, we are ready to go back again. Our First Trip to Hawaii, Kauai. Paradise! Our stay at the Kiahuna made it extra special. Fantastic Condo, great Location, friendly Staff and atmosphere.
We stayed at the Castle side of Kiahuna Plantation (owned condos)for only $149+ a night and it was beautiful! Very well cared for unit (414) with kitchen(w/appliances and dishes) & large balcony, linens, maid service, even boogie boards. No AC, but island breeze blows through..very comfortable. Also nearby coffee hut, shopping and restaurants..all within walking. Shop at grocery in east Koloa to stock kitchen. On site laundry. Beautiful lush manicured grounds. Resort has perfect secluded little oceanfront bay with bright reef fish. Sheraton Auli'i luau is next door. Definitely returning!
My husband and I booked a 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo for our 25th wedding anniversary. However, my knee gave out and I was unexpectedly forced to have total knee replacement surgery. We booked the condo through AirB&B and the owner had a 30-day cancellation policy. That was fine. We canceled 3 months and 1 week in advance (in May 2017) because my surgeon does not want me to fly on a 5 1/2 hour flight over the ocean with no chance of stopping after undergoing the surgery due to concerns about edema and blood clots. We were penalized 50% of our total amount because "we have a super strict policy" (Kiahuna Plantation). First of all, we did not know about such a policy until after we booked when I was contacted by AirB&B when we attempted to cancel. The ONLY policy we were given at the time of booking was the owner's policy of a 30-day cancellation. Sure enough, on the AirB&B website, after much searching, I found the 50% penalty policy. Interestingly, it says in order to be afforded this tremendous opportunity, one must be "invited." We weren't invited; we never even knew about it. However, AirB&B says it is a Kiahuna Plantation policy. The owner of the condo says it is an AirB&B policy. Whichever organization/company made the policy, AirB&B indicates that they have an appeal process, which we followed, and my doctor wrote a letter explaining that I could not fly such a long distance until the very end of the year due to the possibility of complications (which I experienced with my first knee replacement). I even sent them my MRI results and an explanation of the surgery! They denied our appeal saying they again "have a super strict policy." To cancel over 3 months in advance and be penalized well over $1,300 is beyond absurd. So, when I can fly at the end of the year, we will NEVER stay at Kiahuna Plantation again (although we have stayed there many times), and we will NEVER use AirB&B again (it was our first experience with this company). What a scam.
Grounds were beautiful. Huge Bermuda grass lawn by the ocean with lounge chairs. The bungalow we stayed in needs #216 needs some serious updating. There were three flights of stairs to get to the unit and no offer of help with luggage. Place was noisy. I didn't mind the birds, but the people below us were noisy late at night. There is no air conditioning, but there are ceiling fans and the louvered windows help with the breeze if there is one. The pool is not on site so the website is misleading. They also charge a $15.00 a day housekeeping fee and all they do is replace the towels that you throw on the ground. Nothing is cleaning like in a hotel.
