Outrigger Waipouli Beach
- What's Included
The resort was peaceful and my unit beautifully furnished. Pool and water features were amazing. Spa by the sea and the Oasis restaurant both on the property will keep me coming back! I found the location (Kapaa) to be perfect as a home base as I was able to take short drives (up to an hour all directions) for helicopter ride from Princeville to the NaPali Coast, Rafting on the ocean (turtles, pods of dolphins and manta ray) and went on an early morning zip line from Poipu. Not too far from Lihue and there is a Starbucks and Safeway across the street. From what I understand this is not the beach that you would swim in or snorkel from. Great for laying in beach chairs and not very busy.
My friends and I spent the Thanksgiving holiday weekend here, and loved it. The staff was friendly and the room was very nice with high end appliances and all the kitchenware one would need. If you can get an ocean room, then it is worth every penny. Imagine waking up to the sound of the waves every morning! The hotel's location is ideal...near to the markets and great restaurants....And since it was a middle point location wise, it was an easy drive north to Hanalei, or west to Waimea. Will definitely stay here again.
We rented a condo through VRBO and we were not disappointed. The resort is clean, plenty of parking and directly on the beach. Our condo was a one bedroom with a big bathroom, well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer and a distant view of the ocean. The pool is big and the central part of the resort, great for families. There is the Oasis restaurant on the property and has a great view of the ocean. They have happy hour every day, the drinks and food are good. Our condo was on the 2nd floor so we were able to keep the doors open at night as the winds were nice. We liked hearing the frogs croaking at night from the nearby lobby Koi pond. The resort is in a great location, in the middle of Kapaa and right across the street from a shopping plaza which has a Safeway, Starbucks, Subway and a yummy ice cream shop, Tropical Dreams. The only downsides is the pool is not heated and the beach is rocky so you really can't swim in the ocean there. For us these were minor and didn't bother us. Would highly recommend staying here.
Spacious aparthotel rooms with well equipped kitchens, many with seaviews. However beware the wet Northeasterly trade wind that hits the Kapaa coast hard year round and drops all its moisture as rain ahead of the central high ground. The central Kauai landmass is said to be the second wettest in the world and Waipouli gets regularly soaked. The south west sector of Kauai is in the rain shadow of the main mountain and in contrast is dry and desert-like. The high seas, swell and surf of the NE coast are not ideal for kids, but OK for water-proof kite surfers. The kids have to retreat to a penned-off semi-microscopic "water park", with a couple of slides and perhaps the smallest ever lazy river. There are few covered walkways no between the blocks, so you need to time movements between downpours. In the winter months there are better hotel choices with better weather on the south coast around Poipu. Our 2-bed 3-bath apartment had multiple sea facing lanais but all were unusable due continuous strong winds and heavy blustery rain showers. The Oasis on the Beach on-site restaurant is friendly and reasonably priced, with $5 happy hour cocktails, but wind-blown. In November staff were unable to open up the doors to make the most of the oceanfront location, with no alfresco dining possible. Excellent chilli-honey crispy calamari and a beyond excellent but pricey ($40) steak. Upscale dining around Waipouli is largely non-existent. Safeway store is walking distance across the coastal highway, which is important as there are few alternatives beyond self-catering for most of the stay.
The one bedroom had every amenity you could want. The location was great and we appreciated the two grocery stores across the street. We recieve a customer card to use at the grocery which easily saved is over $50. The pool area is beautiful and the foliage lush. Everything is clean and appears well maintained.
