Outrigger Waipouli Beach
- What's Included
Our first visit to Hawaii and, boy, did we strike gold in choosing Kaua'i and the Waipouli Beach Resort! First of all, Kaua'i is such a beautiful place for the perfect relaxed island holiday. We hired a car and explored the beautiful North Shore beaches, Waimea Canyon and waterfalls, and went ziplining at Kipu Ranch - all an easy drive from the resort (even for us Aussies who usually drive on the other side of the road!). We spent a day in Honolulu and checked out Waikiki before flying home due to a flight delay - SO glad we chose to spend our week in Kaua'i!!The resort itself is paradise. The 1 bedroom condo had everything you could want for a family of 4 with a beautiful view of the pool. We truly could have spent the whole week here hanging around the room and the pool for pure relaxation. Swimming is possible at the beach but the waves can be strong and there is no lifeguard. A beautiful and rare monk seal was camped out on the beach the whole time we were there. We didn't eat at the restaurant as we like to cook and eat in. The Safeway has everything you could want and is so convenient. A short distance away is the gorgeous historic village of Kapa'a with many great and different gift shops and places to eat - so refreshing to see original local business rather than franchises. We will definitely be back - I'm missing the pool already!
First, the pros of this resort. The condos are very spacious, beautifully upgraded with top of the line appliances and comfortable for a short or long stay. The bathrooms are truly gorgeous, we joked that the bathroom is bigger than our master bedroom at home. The grounds of the resort are truly beautiful, you feel like you are in an oasis when you are in the pool area, the condos are quiet, you can't hear the sounds from the pool while in the condo, which is great because the pool area is always jumping. The staff at the resort were very friendly and always smiling. There is enough space at the pool area to accommodate everyone, always chairs and tables available and never anyone saving chairs with towels like we have experienced at some other resorts. The beach at the resort is beautiful, and although the surf was not too rough to wade in, I believe the water is filled with rough and sharp rocks and coral so no one was swimming, but the beach is beautiful for taking in the sunrise as the sunrises directly in front of the condo unit. Some negatives, the furniture in our condo was really in need of replacement, the couch was extremely uncomfortable and worn. The condo had just bare basics for cooking, which is the reason we stay at condos in the first place, so that we can save money by dining in occasionally. There was only one bowl in the entire kitchen, that I ended up using and washing over and over for salad, marinating meat, scrambling eggs etc. There were no Tupperware containers, so storing leftovers or putting excess food away posed a huge challenge. I heard from others at the resort that what is provided in the condo varies by condo and owner, so I guess it just depends on what condo you get. For the negative, there is something with this condo and towels, which I don't understand. When we checked in we were told that we were provided with towels in our room and that we would have to wash them because they don't provide any more, that is fine, I have no problem with that. The problem comes that they only provide four bath towels period, which means you will constantly be washing towels, especially if you have more than two people with you. Also, they provide you with one, yes one, thin dish towel, which after one use is completely soaked and needs to be washed, leaving you without a dish towel until you wash it again. Also, the towels at the pool they monitor like hawks. Second, we ran our dishwasher the second day we were here and came home to the dishwasher spewing water all over the floor of our kitchen, and we had to use all of our bath towels to mop up the huge mess. We called maintenance and they came quickly, said they fixed the issue. The maintenance man let it slip that he had been to our unit before to fix the dishwasher, so we felt like it was an ongoing issue. The problem was the same thing happened the very next day, and we again had to use all of our bath towels to clean up the mess, but this time we stopped using the dishwasher. Washed dishes by hand for the remaining time at the condo which was a pain in the butt. I would come back to this condo but I would not rent a unit unless I knew the exact unit, so I would recommend renting through VBRO or home away, I wouldn't risk renting a condo that sight unseen.
We just got back from a week long stay at Waipouli Resort and have to say it's one of the nicest places we've been to on HI. Lots of room and the accommodations were nice. Just one downside is that the ocean was not good for swimming. Very rocky & rough surf. But it was fine to sit on the beach and take In the view and enjoy the breeze. Loved that there were so many dining & activity options close by. Centrally located.
Beautiful, large well appointed condo. We stayed in F103, which had no view, but the lanai and grass was well maintained. The condo is beautiful with high end appliances but lacking the special touches some of the other owners provided. We bought a skillet for the unit, and left it here. Also we purchased small cooler and left it in the closet for the next tenant. We loved the grounds, so beautifully maintained and lush. The pool was so relaxing with 4 different waterfalls and 2 watersides. The pool side recliners and chairs were very nice, not the cheap plastic ones. The restaurant by the pool is privately owned, but will serve poolside ... for a cost. For example the Bloody Mary was $21 and it was not very big. Recommend getting your own and forgoing their app services. Great location close to everything. Traffic can be a little much for such a small town. We are already planning our return trip.
This is my first trip to Kauai but it won't be my last. This is paradise. The beach here is not the best for swimming but the pool here is worth the stay. The pool is a saline like River that covers close to a couple of acres. There are two water slides and if you just want to get in the river section you can walk and talk with your friends. We stayed in a two bedroom unit and it was perfect for all our needs. We had breakfast on our lanai every morning overlooking the river section of pool area. A Safeway is across the street for easy grocery shopping.
