We checked in on Sunday this week and we are very disappointed. We checked in at 9pm after a hard camping trip in our tent to fly to Maui the next day and to be close to the airport. When we got our room we were confused : the air conditioner and the lights were on, all bed sheets and all used towels lay on the floor and the bin was full and smelly. So we went back to the reception where we had to wait a couple of minutes. Then the receptionist gave us another room. We were a group of three and payed for an Appartement with two queensize beds and a sofa. Our second room only had one bed. Kind of annoyed we went to the reception again to tell the staff that we paid for two beds and everyone of us would like to sleep in a proper bed ( after 1.5 weeks of camping.....). The stuff was annoyed that we came back and said that this room was the only one they had and that the sofa can be pulled out. We decided to check out to go to"Hiltons". At this time it was kinda late and we had to get up early the next day to get our flight. After we told the receptionist that we'd like to check out he "immediately " found another room for us with two beds - strange because he said that was the only room left. We were disappointed because we paid 250 dollars per night - quite expensive for that bad service. It would have been nice if the reception to give us a proper room immediately and not after coming back two times. Also, it wasn't really nice to refuse a double room bed to us as we paid for with excuses like "there aren't any rooms left" - because obviously they had other rooms.... also, after taking our heavy stuff from the reception to the rooms and back again and after 45 minutes of waiting and discussing it would have been nice from the staff members to apologize for the inconveniences ( maybe by saying so to us!) but the only thing we got was an annoyed and irritated receptionist. It wasn't our fault at all so we should've get an apologize at least. We will never come back because next time, we'll pay those 20 dollars more for the Hilton Hotel where we'll get the service we expect.
We booked through Expedia and unfortunately the suite we had (H16 I think) was a miss for me. The cons I list below have to do with the suite itself and does not reflect the property as a whole. First the Pros:- great location, approximately half way to each end of the island. Grocery stores and restaurants nearby.- didn't notice any guest noise. Really calm and quiet. -excellent front desk service. Noli (I think that was his name) was fantastic and tried his best to accommodate our concerns.- beds were comfortable.- stove was dated and tiny but adequate for our needs.- fridge was regular size and cooled very well. - enjoyed having a balcony. It looked out towards the pool but it was never noisy. - beach was nearby however it isn't a nice beach. I don't think it's for swimming or lounging (there was lots of debris on the sand - tree branches and such). But we aren't beach people and we enjoyed just going for walks.-WiFi was great. Cons:- suite was extremely dated. The cupboards are really old pressed particle board and they are falling apart (huge gouges on the inside). A weird smell of wet wood comes from them. - as Canadians, we always take our shoes off inside but it doesn't appear other people practice this.....even though there was a sign requesting this. The carpet was disgusting/dirty and maybe this is why no one wants to take their shoes off.- when we booked, we requested a suite with a king size bed....when we arrived our room had two double beds. This was unacceptable to me. We aren't big people but for comfort sake, two adults don't fit comfortably in a double bed. My husband and I had to sleep in separate beds. I realize their write-up said that king beds are upon request but I requested it in November! You'd think that would be enough notice for a stay in March!-hot water was fairly non-existent. It didn't even get hot enough to mould my dental guard for sleeping. The warm water also only lasted maybe 10 minutes (15 if we were lucky) until it ran completely cold. I've never been on vacation where there wasn't adequate hot water. No water pressure in shower either. - extra rolls of toilet paper would've been nice, as well as extra garbage bags so we could take out the garbage when it gets full.- my idea of clean must be very different from whoever cleaned this room.To be honest, after seeing the suite I immediately thought about checking out and going elsewhere like another reviewer said they did but we didn't want to lose any money.I've stayed in suites with "authentic charm and character" in other parts of the world, but this just looked dated with an attitude of "good enough for tourists". I wouldn't recommend!
Slightly dated but very nice & comfortable. We heard there might be traffic noise but there was not. There were plenty of towels and pillows and attention to detail. We were very pleased, would recommend and return again.
Apparently room and furnishings vary widely at this property as units are privately owned. The furnishings in our room were tropical themed but we're showing definite signs of wear. The mattresses were old and in need of replacement. The carpet was stained. Stove was ancient (think 1950's). There was a huge floor to wall cabinet o dfunrenthateven eerequest would bhtwas marked private and locked shut. A sign indicated that there was a fire extinguisher located in the cabinet, but it was inaccessible as the door was locked. One of the three small pools (and the second of two hot tubs) was closed. The property had absolutely no green space. Our room was located directly across the street from a construction site which began work each morning at 7. Our lanai had a view of a shed and parking lot. Beach access across street and down long path through an open unlandscaped field. the plus side, there was no guest noise. Would definitely not recommend. We moved to another property halfway through our stay in spite of the fact that there would be no refund.
My husband and I honeymooned on Kauai and found Plantation Hale through VRBO. Our particular unit (D11) is operated by Ocean Front Property Management rather than Plantation Hale itself. We stayed here for 8 nights and found that it was indeed Hale ("home" in Hawaii!). We appreciated having a full kitchen so that we could save some money on dining out and prepared most of our breakfasts there. The lanai was peaceful with plenty of privacy. The room was quiet which we so appreciated! The most noise we heard was honestly caused by the wind rattling the front door when we had both lanai doors open on a particularly windy day. We used the pool and hot tub a couple of times and found them to be well maintained. Parking was easy and right by the entrance to our particular building which was convenient. We also appreciated that they had recycling available! The beach was an easy walk from our building and we enjoyed several walks there as well as a couple of beautiful sunsets.Located in Kapaa are several excellent restaurants. One of our tour guides said, "You're by all the good food!" when we told him where we were staying. There is also a Long's Drug just down the drive which was great for grabbing a few easy groceries and some aloe gel when one of us got a bit too much sun! The night that we were supposed to fly out, our flight was cancelled and we unfortunately had to scramble to find accommodations elsewhere for the night as most of the island was full. We ended up spending as much on ONE night at a resort style hotel than we did on almost half of our stay at Plantation Hale. The resort was noisy and we both agreed that we had enjoyed our stay at Plantation Hale much more. We hope to return to Kauai someday soon and would be more than happy to stay at Plantation Hale again!
