Plantation Hale Suites

We stayed at this place for 5 nights in a private manages unit. That means that we booked it via airbnb and not the resort itself. The resort has a very nice pool area with a hot tub. The children liked it very much. But i had the feeling that the children were not welcomed b all the guests. the faces of the (older) people said more than words. At the reception we asked for a baby crib for our baby. They had some cribs left but the wouldn't give it to us because the room was privately managed. I really didn't understand that, i mean its a baby! We also would have paid for it, but the guy resisted! So once again, i think children are not very welcomed there...
My family and I wanted to explore the north side of Kauai so we chose this location as the spot to spend one night in. Good but not great. The A/C unit was dirty looked kind of moldy and there were no pillows on the beds, other than the decorative ones. When I called front, no one answered because they do not have staff working at night (we were a late check in due to our flight arrival time) Was happy it accommodated the five of us.
I was a little concerned staying at this place at first, as I am usually more interested in things south on the island near Poipu. But we were looking for not only a good deal but someplace simple and convenient to many different parts of the island. We were quite pleased with our stay here. The apartment with a full kitchen and living room and separate areas of the bathroom was absolutely perfect for us. We were able to cook many of our meals and comfortably dine in or on the balcony. The two separate rooms were great as we could decide to do different things at different times and not get in each other's way. The staff here is marvelous and exceptionally friendly. The complex is larger than you might imagine at first, but still very quaint and homely. The rooms on the second floor are quieter than those on the ground floor. And the rooms that face the inside or pool/garden area are quieter than those facing the roadway. The B&C complex are nearer to the office and more convenient. A great perk is they allow you to borrow old movies free of charge, making a rainy night cozy and comfortable. Do not get confused as this place is not located in central Kapaa, but just outside. You will have to go into town to find the better variety of restaurants and cafés although there are just a few things within walking distance. Most convenient is the Safeway and Longs drugstore which are just down the street. I highly recommend this place and would stay here again if I were going to stay in this part of the island. Again, it is not fancy but clean, convenient, welcoming with a working kitchen.
Plantation Hale is next to a very busy highway and could be noisy. It is a bit pricey for the location. It is not a beach hotel. Heavy traffic everyday we were in the area except Sunday. They don't really clean the room, although they charge for cleaning fee they only replace the towels. On the plus side, it has a full kitchen, few minutes drive to the Lydgate Beach Park where you can swim or snorkel. But there are many hotels nearby by the beach which are similar prices. But in Kauai, you will be outdoor most of the time anyway so this is hotel is just ok.
Plantation Hale (PH) is not going to blow you away with its decor, amenities or location. The room we stayed in was old and in need of some serious TLC. The bed was not very comfortable and in need of updating. The pool closest to our condo was closed the entire time so that they could re-paint the pool deck (during the busy holiday time? - an "interesting management decision") The facility has the benefit of being in a good spot of the island of Kauai so it is easy to go off in either direction ... however, it is right next to the busy highway and road noise is an issue night and day. As well, the beach access is a challenge - you need to cross a field to get to the beach which is not swimmable when you get there - sigh. Having said all that, PH is a good value for the money and depending on what you are looking for - ie. a staging spot to sleep in and not a resort to hang out at during the day ... this is a pretty decent option. The staff were all wonderfully helpful and accommodating. Bottom-line, you're in Hawaii, so enjoy all of the natural beauty around you and have a great time!
