Plantation Hale Suites
- What's Included
Apparently room and furnishings vary widely at this property as units are privately owned. The furnishings in our room were tropical themed but we're showing definite signs of wear. The mattresses were old and in need of replacement. The carpet was stained. Stove was ancient (think 1950's). There was a huge floor to wall cabinet o dfunrenthateven eerequest would bhtwas marked private and locked shut. A sign indicated that there was a fire extinguisher located in the cabinet, but it was inaccessible as the door was locked. One of the three small pools (and the second of two hot tubs) was closed. The property had absolutely no green space. Our room was located directly across the street from a construction site which began work each morning at 7. Our lanai had a view of a shed and parking lot. Beach access across street and down long path through an open unlandscaped field. the plus side, there was no guest noise. Would definitely not recommend. We moved to another property halfway through our stay in spite of the fact that there would be no refund.
My husband and I honeymooned on Kauai and found Plantation Hale through VRBO. Our particular unit (D11) is operated by Ocean Front Property Management rather than Plantation Hale itself. We stayed here for 8 nights and found that it was indeed Hale ("home" in Hawaii!). We appreciated having a full kitchen so that we could save some money on dining out and prepared most of our breakfasts there. The lanai was peaceful with plenty of privacy. The room was quiet which we so appreciated! The most noise we heard was honestly caused by the wind rattling the front door when we had both lanai doors open on a particularly windy day. We used the pool and hot tub a couple of times and found them to be well maintained. Parking was easy and right by the entrance to our particular building which was convenient. We also appreciated that they had recycling available! The beach was an easy walk from our building and we enjoyed several walks there as well as a couple of beautiful sunsets.Located in Kapaa are several excellent restaurants. One of our tour guides said, "You're by all the good food!" when we told him where we were staying. There is also a Long's Drug just down the drive which was great for grabbing a few easy groceries and some aloe gel when one of us got a bit too much sun! The night that we were supposed to fly out, our flight was cancelled and we unfortunately had to scramble to find accommodations elsewhere for the night as most of the island was full. We ended up spending as much on ONE night at a resort style hotel than we did on almost half of our stay at Plantation Hale. The resort was noisy and we both agreed that we had enjoyed our stay at Plantation Hale much more. We hope to return to Kauai someday soon and would be more than happy to stay at Plantation Hale again!
Our recent month long stay at Plantation Hale was a delight. We had stayed here many years ago and loved coming back. The central location of Plantation Hale is what we wanted. Also, having the space of a bedroom, living room and kitchen was wonderful. We enjoyed sitting on the enclosed deck overlooking tropical foliage. All of the staff at Plantation Hale were exceptional. Both the front desk and housekeeping went out of their way for us.There are three lovely pools. We enjoyed the barbeques and picnic tables that were adjacent to them. There was nice updated décor in the unit. Beds were comfortable with nice linen. The bathroom had thick fluffy towels and quality toiletries. There was "Kauai" brand coffee provided daily in the unit. Our kitchen stove was older but worked well.Plantation Hale may not be for everyone. It is an older place that lacks ocean views. For us it was delightful and I'm so glad this is where we stayed!
We stayed in B6, very cozy and nice, decorated very tastefully, owned privately. Bed is super comfy, has great things to borrow such as boogie boards and shopping bags. You can hear the traffic at times and we heard sirens 3 times. No W/D in unit, no dishwasher in unit. AC in the living room, makes the bedroom a bit warm. Kitchen is stocked with some spices, great you don't have to buy them while here. Definitely would stay here again!
The property is well maintained but is very dated. The staff were excellent and did everything they could to make a our stay excellent. We were waiting for a late night flight and really appreciated the extra effort of the front desk staff to accommodate our needs. I was travelling with my Mom who is 88 and they were able to get us into a room at 11:30 in the morning so we could let her rest. Loved them.
