Sheraton Kauai Resort
- What's Included
The staff is really nice, it's a short walk to restaurants and bars and it's close to the airport. Nothing is cheap on Kauai, this is one of the cheaper hotels and you can really tell. The room needs some freshening up and could be cleaner. It is ok for a night when flying in/out of Lihue, but nothing more.
This is a very local hotel in Lihue. The pluses are that it is about 5 minutes from the airport and right off the main street (Rice) in Lihue - which makes for an easy start for any local travel. The property is older and the rooms are small. WiFi is good and free. There are no telephones in the rooms. The staff is courteous and accommodating. For the price, it serves its basic function. I doubt it is used routinely for extended family-type vacations on Kauai, but for a quick visit or a business trip, it works great.
One night stay after long flight from East coast. A comfortable bed, quiet night, clean room and hot shower was all I needed. I got roaches, a lumpy bed with an ancient history and roosters crowing from a next door farm. I was also awakened by the front desk which closes at 8pm after falling asleep to double check my credit card which I rendered with my reservation and confirmed when I arrived. No more sleep. If motel six is your standard five star this rates well below 2. Kauai is a beautiful place. Find another hotel at any price.
Perfect for first or last day on the island. Very close to the airport. Our queen bed was comfortable and the bathroom was small and the room was very clean. What was best for our two night stay was the Aloha extended by the friendly , service oriented staff. You get exactly what you pay for and for anyone thinking they are getting a high end resort should do so and pay the price accordingly.
If you have breathing issues, allergies or other lung related issues or even if you don't, Do Not stay at Kauai Palms (American Lung Association article on breathing issues and our experience). The first night upon arriving, we were greeted with several 1/2" critters running around the bathroom and closet. We didn't know what they were as we have never in our travels encountered Cockroaches before. Had we not been stuck for a place to sleep and had we not been recommended by another hotel when booking, we would have run that night but there was nowhere to go. Every second day we had uninvited guests when we arrived back from our daily tours... the hotel sprayed the room on the third day but the second to last night, more critters then upon waking at 6 am, we were greeted with an 1 1/2" fellow, lying on his back, tentacles still moving. Don't know where he fell from or where he'd been crawling but this sent us out of that room to bunk with friends on their couch for that final night. The manager was good enough to discount the room to one night of stay and we know it is not her fault; the owner's are off site owner's and obviously do not care about their facility. The place needs to be torn down and rebuilt if they want to remain in the tourism industry even though this may be 'Hawaii Life'! It is totally unacceptable in the tourism industry.
