Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
- What's Included
Just read another review similar to what we experienced. Having celebrated our 1 year anniversary in Maui, half at the Andaz and half at the Four Seasons, my husband and I both highly enjoyed the Andaz more! This hotel is modern, sexy and just plain cool. Entering you feel like you're stepping in "relaxation mode". The hallways are darker and create such nice modern feel. The design and flow of the whole hotel is on point- they did an excellent job with the entire space. The breakfast buffet was outstanding! The beach was wonderful and we enjoyed snorkeling with the turtles each morning. Because this place has a few pools on different levels it never felt over crowded or congested- again major props to design here. The staff were friendly and helpful. We never waited too long for anything- no lines, quick and easy- how vacation should feel. We had a nice room on a high floor and were offered a complimentary bottle Champagne, Veuve to celebrate our anniversary. They even offered us choices- at the Four Seasons they sent "Champagne" from California (my husband is french, that's a no no). The rooms were sleek, no frills but comfortable and clean. I wish they gave us slippers since the room can get sandy etc. but we enjoyed our stay and we would recommend the Andaz for a more romantic stay in Maui. We're considering getting one of villas for the whole family next time.
Rooms (double w/partial ocean view):Good usage of space with nice lighting. Bathrooms could have been a bit larger. Nice deep large soaking tubs and rain shower.Food:Ka'ana Kitchen - Good variety of food with items noted to be larger or regular portion. Had some that were uniquely prepared and definitely different. A tad overpriced.Mokapu Market - Good place to get breakfast, snacks, drinks, etc. Morimoto - If you haven't tried the food of Iron Chef Morimoto I highly suggest it. It's not cheap as it shouldn't be. Try the Omakase.Drinks:The drinks need a lot of work unfortunately. All drinks are served in generic plastic cups. Too much ice and not enough ingredients. They are very pricey and because of that they really need to have appropriate serving vessels and a lot more of the ingredients/alcohol. There should be plastic versions out there appropriate for pool areas.Pool/Grounds/Beach:Nice variety of pools (5) as well as one adults only pool. All are infinity except for one. Nice grassy areas between the pool and beach. No beach in Hawaii is private but the one in front of the resort definitely feels like it. Not nearly as crowded as Hulu beach which is right around the corner.Spa:I rarely get my hair cut at a resort. I did this time and it was nicely done and not much more than what I pay normally back home for a high end men's cut. I used the spa area which included hot tub, steam, dry sauna, relaxation room. Very clean area.Activities:Good variety of activities and the staff at the beach was very helpful and accommodating. Recommend the outrigger. Good snorkeling as well.Staff:All the staff we encountered were friendly and very helpful. One special nod to the gentlemen who offered a free thermos as I misplaced mine.
I rarely do hotel reviews (this is the first for some years) but we stayed at the Andaz Maui for 5 nights. Fantastic hotel - rooms v modern and feel v new; great facilities - spa, gym, pools etc. and 5* restaurants. Thank you to Betty and her colleagues who made us all feel so welcome and who were incredibly attentive and thoughtful. The concierge recommended various activities including: surf lessons from own hotel beach club (a short drive away to a more wave friendly beach) and snorkeling from the hotel beach - both of which were v high quality with staff who really cared about offering a great experience and who somehow managed to get me to stand up on a surf board!! Suggest book in advance of arrival as these activities are in great demand due to their high standard and seem as a result booked up in advance. We also took a truly memorable tour, again recommended by the hotel concierge, with Maui Pacific Tours - the Road to Hana Tour. You are picked up in a Range Rover early in the day and then taken to some fantastic spots - beaches, waterfalls, caves etc. which for our teenagers (and us) were fabulous. Tour is all day but it really flies by. There is no way we would have been able to find most of these ourselves as some were well off the beaten track. We had researched this trip in advance and picked out what we wanted to see en route. However it soon became v clear our guide Kyle knew exactly what to take us to see and what would please our two teenagers the most - hence we decided to "go with the flow". A truly memorable and relaxing day with a fabulous and informative guide. We would highly recommend this. Sincere thanks to Kyle - great fun and company (your diving from the high point of the places we stopped was also amazing!!)Back to the Andaz, the hotel also offers a courtesy car to take you to local restaurants etc. which was always available at v short notice. This is a v nice touch and a service we used on most days. We will be back to the Andaz Maui as soon as we can! Thank you so much for a great and v difficult to beat 5 days.
This was our second stay at this resort and the second time the service shown by the front desk staff left me cold. Whilst this is a beautiful resort and has some great features the front desk staff and management just don't care about their guests. Arriving mid afternoon, the check in was as robotic as I recalled the previous time. On arrival at our room we were really disappointed to have been given a room at the back of the property on a low floor with nothing to see other than a tree which occupied the front of the lanai. I promptly returned to the front desk to ask to be moved and was promptly told there were no other rooms. On speaking with the duty manager, the same message was issued, the only addition being that they would look to move us the next day and alerts would be put out to all duty managers to move us as soon as possible, we never heard anything from them during our stay, they left us in the original room and never even checked we were ok or apologised. So we had travelled half the way around the world to look at a tree! The staff just don't care about their guests satisfaction, let's be honest, this is an expensive resort and you expect more, they just won't deliver. To cap all of this our reservation included an upgrade where available, I understand one might not be available but I didn't expect a downgrade! There are better resorts, offering true customer service, my advice is avoid the Andaz, we certainly will in future.
We had a perfect 12 night stay at the Andaz Maui at Wailea. Not overcrowded, never any lines for anything. never felt rushed. This hotel is what every other hotel should be like. Take advantage of the complimentary car to the shops and restaurants, 1/3 of the price for general items vs the hotel. Make sure you swing by Monkeypod that was our favorite. Mahalo hopefully we will be back in the future.
