Aston at Papakea Resort
- What's Included
My wife and I stayed at the resort from 1/15 - 1/22/17 for our 40th anniversary. We were originally put in room B210, a 1BR condo on the end of building B. The condo was average with quite dated furnishings, burned out light bulbs, dripping faucet, and a sliver of a partial ocean view, mostly blocked by an adjacent building. Parking on the north side of the resort by Building B was limited due to construction. There was also construction noise during the day. When we came back from a whale watching excursion on Tuesday afternoon we found out that the power was off in the condo. As it turns out the owner had not paid the utility bill for four months. Obviously, the power company was very forgiving, but enough was enough. Unfortunately for us it was while we were staying there. We called the front desk to find out what to do. They are employed by Papakea Resort, not Aston. Aston manages many of the condos in the resort. The Aston office was closed due to the late return from our tour. The front desk got us in contact with Russell, the maintenance and housekeeping manager for Aston. He was extremely sympathetic to our plight and bent over backwards to help us. Thank you sooooo much Russell! He made arrangements to move us to a different condo in Building L. He had one of his workers, Brian, come and move all our belongings. What a super helpful man! Thanks Brian!Russell told us that someone from Aston accommodations would contact us on Wednesday to let us know what we were to do. No one ever called. When we got back from a Hana tour that evening we contacted Russell. He made arrangements for us to stay in the 2BR ocean front condo in Building L, L306 for the remainder of our 1 week trip. What a nice condo, and what a view! Thanks again, Russell for all your help! You made what started out to be an unpleasant experience turn into a very relaxing and enjoyable one, not to mention the nice room upgrade. That is what I call excellent customer service. The concierge desk at the resort is staffed by Expedia employees. We were given an invitation upon arrival to an island orientation and free continental breakfast on Monday morning. By all means make sure to attend this orientation. Andrea, one of the concierge desk employees, gave the orientation. She is very knowledgeable about the island, tours that are available, places for sightseeing and shopping. She had a drawing during the presentation for a free excursion tour to Hana. We were the winners of the drawing. (More on the tour in a separate review for Gray Line Polynesian Adventure Tours). Andrea was very helpful on numerous occasions during the week. She was always friendly. Being with Expedia, she has good pricing on numerous attractions on the island. Thanks, Andrea for helping make our stay a pleasant one. Across the street from the resort are a number of shops and restaurants that are within walking distance. Pizza Paradiso has good food. We were too busy to play shuffleboard. There are tennis courts on site that we did not use. It would have been nice if the resort had a fitness room. We did enjoy the hot tub. The grounds are impeccably clean. The ponds and landscaping makes for a nice environment. All said, our time at Aston at Papakea was enjoyable after the power issue, which was not Aston or the Papakea resort's fault.
Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff. Excellent facilities with 2 swimming pools and two hot tubs as well as tennis and lawn shuffle board. No sand beach but nicely grassed waterfront and lots of lounge chairs so you may soak up the sun. Close to grocery shopping and other shopping. Not our first time and hopefully not our last visit
This resort is very family friendly, putting green for all ages, shuffle board, swimming. The grounds are beautiful, lots of foliage and well taken care of.Their are several grills around the swimming area to fix your own meals. We have stayed at this location 3 different times, in 3 different units. They have all been wonderful. This area of the beach is EXCELLENT for watching whales if you go during that time of year. Which everyone should to Hawaii to see the whales.
this is an older condo resort; some units have been fully remodeled, some have not and show some wear. We are in B205, nice new king bed, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of towels. Nice balcony with views of the ocean. Very very pretty property. It's whale season, and we've seen many whales from shore, some from our balcony, but others sitting on the lawn chairs - we did bring some good binocs which proved useful.check-in was easy. Parking is fine. Elevator works; but we usually take the stairs, as we're just one floor up. ABC convenience store is practically on the property.A very short 2 minute walk across the main street and up just a bit is the Fish Market Maui -- with excellent fresh fish for purchase, or buy lunch, as we did, great fish sandwiches.Tip: just leave the bedroom windows open, and the slider or at least the windows to the balcony for cool ocean breezes all day and night. little or no need to use the a/c.washer/dryer in unit is very convenient.
The place is clean and has a good bed. It was to much of a busy place for my liking. Had to wait an hr. for the room to be ready til 4PM. We expected rooms close together but they were in different buildings. The cleaning people were nice and let us put our food in the refrigerator while they were still cleaning. The front desk staff was pleasant. I had to ask them to contact the company (management) to at least compensate us with extra coffee for having to wait the extra time. While every one at the front desk was very nice it felt impersonal. The feeling was that the workers could not do things to accommodate guest without having to contact corporate. The studio was tired.
