Aston at Papakea Resort
- What's Included
We have vacationed at Papakea Resort for many years and I would definitely choose Papakea F307 again. Julie was great to work with from start to finish and when a problem came up during our stay, Julie handled it quickly, satisfactorily, and professionally. This unit has a lanai that is only steps from the ocean and we never tired of watching the humpback whales playing right in front of our unit. It had been a few years since we had been to Maui in the early spring and I was amazed again at all the whale activity. This unit has been recently beautifully remodeled with granite countertops, new appliances, tile floors, and a beautiful tile bathroom. The furniture is tasteful and functional and the kitchen has everything that you would ever need to have a lovely vacation. The Murphy bed folds up into the wall to give you lots of living space, and the mattress is new and very comfortable. They also have beach chairs, beach towels, and boogie boards available for guests to use. We love Papakea Resort for its beautifully manicured grounds and uncrowded feeling. The buildings are only 4 floors high and very well maintained. You can walk to the sand beach just past the end of the property, and Papakea also has a long stretch of lawn the length of the property next to its sea wall between the buildings and the ocean. This is a very popular place for guests to relax in the sun or under the palm trees and a great place to watch the spectacular Hawaiian sunsets. There are so many things to do within walking distance and many others a short drive away. There are many snorkeling spots nearby. The grocery store and great coffee shops are a short walk away, as are several restaurants. We recommend this resort and this unit highly!
I stayed here for 5 nights together with my wife, my sister and my parents. As we understood it these condos are time-shares. Me and my wife had one apartment and the rest of the family another. Ours was not at all as nice as the other apartment. We had small ants in our kitchen and bathroom, the ac was hard to understand and we had a very old washing machine. The other apartment on the other hand was very nice, new washing machine, clean and bright. A very large bed in the bedroom (we had a small dubble bed in ours). But the outside is amazing! Very nice pool area with sun beds, one heated pool, one "cold" and a hot tub. Very close to the beach, the property is located on the beach, but for a nice swim beach you need to walk for about 10 minutes. They also have a lot of activities if you're interested in doing that. A very nice orientation meeting the first morning with a presentation of the island and all the stuff you can do. Over all a very nice place to stay, but hope that you are lucky and get one of the nicer apartments. Grocery store and a few restaurants near by.
My husband, 9 month old and I stayed here for one week in unit F202. We have not been to Hawaii, but have traveled to other tropical locations, It's hard not to compare this location to an all inclusive resort. I wanted to give it a 3 star due to our unit, but the ocean views and pool were pretty amazing. Sea turtles roll up in the waves in the afternoon. There was serious breeze that blew through our condo which was amazing, considering there is not full A/C. There was a fan in the bedroom and main room which helped, but still super humid and sticky. The first morning you are there, they offer a little presentation to tell you about some excursions available and the layout of the island. My husband and I found this very helpful in knowing where to go to snorkel, turtle watch, eat etc. I booked this through travelocity so I believe we received a lower end condo, but who knows. The grounds are well kept with beautiful tropical landscaping. The pools were super clean and well kept. Very nice. One was heated and one was not. They both had a hot tub.We booked an ocean view room and ended up with an ocean FRONT room which was a pleasant surprise. This was a 1 bedroom unit with kitchen living space and lanai. The bedroom doesn't have a window to let in any light, which was kind of a bummer. The bed was nothing special but not horrible. The kitchen was clean and had everything you need to cook, but absolutely no extras such as salt and pepper or cooking spray. Most Placed like this generally have a few basics stashed in the cupboard. one of the cupboards broke away from the screws when i opened it. Due to the humidity, I'm sure the wood sucks up so much moisture. Maintenance staff fixed it the next day, which was nice.. The bathroom was very basic and slightly dated but functional. There is a washer an dryer in the unit which was awesome. They supplied ONE tide packet..... and expected you to wash your own towels. That was slightly annoying. The last thing I Want to do on my vacation,,,, is laundry! They came in every morning about 9:30am to collect trash. The living area had an uncomfortable couch, dining table and two wicker type chairs which were comfy. Upon booking this room, I called to reserve an infant bed, assuming it would be a pack n' play..... The crib given to us was ANCIENT and probably not up to code. We had her in it one night and her legs or arms were hanging through the bars in an unsafe manner. THANK GOODNESS for MAUI BABY RENTALS!!!!! They rent out pack n' plays for $6/day! Additionally they were doing some construction on the grounds, which was right below the sunset view. Oh well..... Also, the elevator for our building was out of order, but the building next to us connected to our building, so we could us that one. Elevators are almost essential when traveling with an infant. Highlight of the room was the oceanfront view and sound of crashing waves all day, every day. Amazing way to fall asleep in the middle of paradise. The view of the ocean and Molokai made up for the very Okay living quarters. If the price was right, I would stay here again, but would be curious what other units are like. Location was great.... easy walking distance to local shops and beaches. We walked to the fish market and farmers market almost every day! Take note, there is NO BEACH ACCESS here,, it is just ocean front with a break wall.....which is stunning, but not a beach. I'm pretty sure you could stay on the crappiest hotel on maui and still have an amazing time!
J305 - this room is dated and dirty and had a number of broken things. The slider was almost impossible to open, the screen door handle was broken off, the dishwasher leaked, and water leaked from the unit above thru the vent in the bathroom. The cabinets in the kitchen were so old, the particle board shelves flaked off on the dishes. There is no excuse that the cleaning people did not report these issues and have them fixed. Which gives you an idea of the thoroughness of the cleaning. all these units are privately owned. I figured that going thru Aston, as opposed to VRBO, etc, would be less risky because they would have a certain standard. If this unit meets their standard, I will never visit an Aston property again. I cannot believe how much we paid to stay in this room. Now the resort was very nice and a good location. Everyone there was very nice.
It was nice and you hade a store and some restaurants close by. The staff was ok Ej, one girl in the lobby was a bit cold and not that helpful. We hade a lot of small ants I the apartment, not so nice.
