Aston Kaanapali Shores
- What's Included
We stayed 5 nights here - do yourself a favour and upgrade to a ocean view one bedroom it was incredible - huge apartment with full kitchen and laundry facilities- made it super handy when travelling with a toddler. The pools are gorgeous and the grounds are extremely well maintained. We ate at the restaurant a few times and the food was great - try the ribs! The hotel is beachfront and the sunset photos we took are breathtaking. Wouldn't hesitate staying again.
Let me preface my review by stating that my fiance and I took this trip for my grandmothers 77th birthday. She'd been to all of the islands on multiple occasions but really wanted to go to Maui and stay on the west side. I get us the flights booked, a condo at Napili Beach through VRBO (against my better judgement I might add), and our car rental months in advance. Everything looked like it would be a great trip until my grandma had a fall while visiting some friends and broke her foot. She spends the summer recovering and literally the day before we find out her foot is healed she has another fall from the "boot" she wore for her foot. While this one wasn't as bad she hurt her arm enough that she needed to wear a sling for the 6 weeks prior to the trip and now after as well. This is a lady who's very active and hasn't had a fall since playing soccer with me when I was a kid. Needless to say we were concerned about whether we should even go or not but the doctor felt that recovering in Maui was better that recovering in LA. Ain't that the truth. So day of the trip comes and I upgrade us all to premium economy for our flights so we get more leg space, free meals, and drinks (Dilly Dilly!). We get there and AHHH NOTHING LIKE THAT FRESH ISLAND AIR! Car rental goes smooth and BAM we're out on the road to the west side! We booked a 2nd floor room in an ocean view condo which was advertised as having an elevator so we get there and ummm wheres the elevator? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND! I talk to the manager of the building who is really nice and extremely apologetic to their credit but ultimately not responsible for what's advertised online. We obviously double check and it was still there online and in the original invoice. So I'm naturally livid but we have no where else to go so we stay there for the night. Lots of stuff didnt work in the condo so I look for the best available room and since we're already inconvenienced I'm just thinking "I need to get my 2 favorite ladies into a good room ASAP." In comes Kaanapali Shores with a pretty good rate I'd say for the 2 bedroom Ocean Front which I immediately book for that day through the end of our trip. We pack up the car and head over to the resort and we're greeted with the best parking lot attendant I've ever met in my life. This puts a smile on everyone's face and from then on I got the feeling everything was going to work out the way it was supposed to. At check in, we dealt with James who immediately let me know that the 2 bedroom Ocean Front's were sold out for a portion of our trip so he was going to go ahead and upgrade us to the 2 bedroom Aloha Suite which is literally 10 yards from the water. I've been upgraded before so it didn't have the initial shock effect on me that it did with my grandma and my fiance but let me tell you this unit is absolutely stunning! At 2,000 sq. ft, there is plenty of room! In our case, it was great so that grandma has her own space and my fiance and I can share some alone time as well. We had breakfast every morning out on the wrap around lanai just watching the waves go by with not a care in the world. We snorkeled right outside every day and saw turtles almost every time we went out. The restaurant was nice but with so many amazing restaurants to try in west Maui it underwhelmed us which is probably the only somewhat negative thing I have to say about the property. They had live performers throughout the week in the pool area which we could see clearly from our lanai so it was wonderful being able to enjoy it from the comfort of our room. Having been to Maui and all of the other Hawaiian islands at least once, this is great choice of hotel! It's a very well kept ground on a nice and quiet beach. The unit we were in was kept absolutely spotless at all times which was great! It is not a luxury resort so don't expect that but it is a great option for a variety of travelers looking for resort style amenities but still want the comforts of home like a kitchen, living room, and washer/dryer usage. in terms of location, it is a short 10 minute drive over to Lahaina and maybe 5 minutes from Whalers Village. Going North it's about 5-10 minutes up to some of the beaches in Kapalua. Great spot to be in! Overall, I'd recommend this to couples, families, and multi generational groups. If you're going to Maui make sure to check this place out for a real Aloha spirit!
Am on my last night of 8 at the Aston Kaanapali shores room 840. When I checked in, front desk staff Sheena informed me that I just got upgraded to a junior suite however; no view as they were sold out. I was happy with the upgrade and hoped that I was not facing a wall since was informed no view. Sheena also gave me a box of macadamia nuts chocolate as I mentioned as staying for my birthday. Went to my room and yes no view as such just a bit of the ocean and a dirty water tunnel and other condos. NOW the rooms are old outdated and stinky. The smell in the bathroom is that of old/stale pee and hoped it will go away after a couple of flushes and disinfectant which I always take with me. Again I got upgraded and so didn't want to complain much and thought if this is unpgraded room then how is the standard room that I had booked for. I was too tired from a long flight and drive so all I needed was a shower and a bed. The bed is ok but the headboard makes noisy at every turn I guess am used to it now asked the housekeeping staff to see what they can do about the pee smell and the board nothing was done. The following morning I went to the grocery store nearby and bought air freshener but that till this day has not helped rhe room is still smelly. The furniture in this room is really old..like really old and from the 80s so to say. The bed even though the top is comfortable I happened to check underneath and OMG it's hanging loose I told myself not to worry much of what I can't see. The free in-room coffee is rarely replenished in my room and have to call almost everyday for coffee. I rented the DVD to watch....oh boy I gave up! I couldn't stand the fact that I have to use the PlayStation control to operate the DVD which didn't work as it was dead and had the engineer bring another one that also needed time to charge....I just gave up! I mean it's 2017 going on to 2018 update your gadgets and get a remote that works for DVD independently and welcome to 2017 and have the DVD rental option on TV.
Really enjoyed my stat at the Aston. The amenities were good and staff helpful. Enjoyed using the BBQ for cooking our dinner on two occasions. The BBQ's were spotlessly clean and with the Supermarket across the road, we Aussies felt right at home. The bar was great and the pool areas lovely. A perfect spot for families.
We just spent a week at this resort, and enjoyed it very much. The staff are super friendly, but I believe that is true for Maui in general! The grounds are beautifully kept, and the condo was great. The resort has everything you need right on site; restaurant, 2 pools, general store, gift store, concierge to help with activity bookings...overall a great place to stay while on Maui.
