Aston Kaanapali Shores
- What's Included
This review is a tough one for me to rate. There are great things about the hotel and not so great things. What we liked about this condominium complex is that it is run like a hotel so they have a few hotel type of amenities, like a café shop in the lobby, hotel cleaning daily, a restaurant on the property, etc. What we didn't like is that it didn't include some hotel amenities (like room service). We liked that they had the local expedia travel people on-site to book your trips. We didn't feel that we really got any good deals but they were convenient and had good suggestions. The grounds of the hotel are really, really nice. They have two pool areas and a lot of lawn to set up your chairs on. They keep the grounds very well-maintained. Our favorite part of the hotel were the grounds and they had a really nice fitness room also. They have tennis courts, pickleball and shuffleboard and bbq's by the parking lot. They also offer free dvd rentals. While we liked the condominium idea because it allowed us to have more of a suite with our 3 sons, condominiums may be up to the owners to update/renovate. They have changed out the easy things - like painting, countertops, etc. but many of the parts of the units and the building are very old. The sliding door to the bathroom and the sliders on the master closet didn't work at all and were old and crooked. They still have the old style of texture on the interior walls. The windows and other infrastructure stuff is still old and hasn't been changed or updated. We agree with others that our unit seemed very tired and older. We were in unit 829. We got ants so we had to throw away some of our food. One of our sons slept on the sleeper sofa and the mattress was very bad.The parking was plentiful which was helpful. They charged A LOT for this old of a condominium unit. We had to pay $644 a night for a two room, two bedroom condo that slept 5 people. That is a lot of money in our opinion. They charge a $20 a day amenities package and a $9 parking fee but then they don't include everything in the amenities. For example, you still have to pay $5 a day for the fitness room usage. Hotels love to do this and they are riding the wave too. Of course, they only give you one small box of laundry soap on the first day and no more after that. Since we paid them $4500...one would think that they could leave one small box of laundry soap per day! We had an incident on the last night of our stay where someone in the room above us had a party until 3 am and was extremely noisy and we asked them to do something about it. They must have asked them to quiet down because they did so for 10 minutes and then they went back to partying. This complex appeared to have more older people staying in it so I'm not sure that they are comfortable dealing with these partying types of situations. The staff were very nice which we liked. The cleaning of the rooms was not that great but when the carpet is older and everything else, it just gives the room a dingier feeling. While the grounds are very nice, they really don't have a beach left at high tide and not much of one at low tide either. If you really want to hang out on the beach, this is not the hotel for you. Even next door it's not that nice. You also have to manuever through some areas since the boardwalk doesn't extend well along the beach around this hotel. Kaanapali Beach appears to have had a lot of erosion. If you really want beach, staying at the Sheraton by Black Rock or further down the Kaanapali Beach area might be a better idea.In summary, this is a great hotel/condominium complex if you are interested in the grounds area (two pools) and other activities they offer. If you want the beach and/or more of a hotel feel and also nicer rooms, I would stay elsewhere. I would have rated it higher if we hadn't paid so much but my expectations are high when the cost is $644 a night. I'm sharing what we paid because I believe that it lends perspective on our expectations. We had a really nice stay, I would like to stay on a different beach (not Kaanapali) next time but I don't regret staying here.
After staying at a dumpy hotel our first 2 nights.... we moved over to Aston!! It did not disappoint. Great place all around with awesome sunsets..... every night!! We really liked our dinner here the night we tried it out!!!Thank you for saving our family vacation! Highly recommend to all!
When there is so much of something from which to choose, it's often customer service that makes the difference. So if I were to recommend a resort in Maui it would be the Aston Kaanapali Shores. We - my cancer-survivor-oncology nurse daughter and her nurse buddies - just experienced a dream get-away which was largely orchestrated by the Amenities Queen, Shannan Roberge. I started out wanting to order a gift/snack basket for the ladies and Shannan helped me coordinate all of that. Unbeknownst to me, Shannan orchestrated some additional extras which delighted us all. So unexpected and heartfelt. The nurses had a marvelous time at the Aston and thoroughly enjoyed their room, the grounds and the whole experience. Huge thanks to the Aston and especially to Shannan. Next time we're in Maui, you'll see us at the Aston Kaanapali Shores!
This is a trip of life time. We enjoyed every minutes of it. Great view and convenient location. We saw turtles and whales from the patio of the resort. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We will be back.
We loved this resort!!! EVERY single person we met from the staff was super nice & helpful! We have a family of 6 & our condo (504) was very spacious with a GORGEOUS view!! Beautiful pool. Convenient location to everything. We will definitely be back!
